What the heck did Leslie and Jennifer talk about for the past 58 minutes? Did Leslie detail every machination of Pawnee's citizens that got her recalled? I'll pay for an hour of your time if I had $1200 lying around), but Leslie should have just said "Pawnee recalled me, and I saw the opportunity to run again, so I'm taking it. It's a good idea right?" Jen would have said the exact same things to her, and they would have had 50 more minutes. I know, I know, Leslie turned out fine-in fact, she didn't really need Jen to orchestrate anything for her, her words were enough to make Leslie realize that it's time to move up, but still, how much more kickass would it have been?

A key point of what makes her story complete is that she did not accomplish what she did on her own, but with the aid of the rest of her team. She alone would not be able to make her plans happen, but the point of this entire show is that a person that believes in what they do can inspire others to help build for that same goal. It's also why you have characters like Ben, April and Chris on her team. They are people that are skilled at what they do, but work with her because they know what she does has merit.
I have always loved this scene because we all knew that Leslie needed to rise above Pawnee. I’m just glad she heard it from Jen.

Her performance could've been super exaggerated due to the writing, but it was significantly understated--so, so good!

There is a strong emphasis on message and what the candidate stands for and that is what gets them elected or followed. The fallout comes aferwards, but the general thing about American politics is that the most followed politicians in the US are the ones that dream big and follow through.

That's because that isn't her job. She's a project builder which is a platform for her kind of position. She's there to prove her point, not negotiate down to something. However, she has plenty of skill in that as well.

She actually knows the law really well which is part of her character. What is her notable weakness is her penchant in seeing the best in people, a trait that is not strong with political opponents, but is very strong with the people in general. Her ability as a politician is not backed by her ability in the arena, but in being able to motivate people into action. The thing about American politics is that it isn't a system built on parliament tomfoolery, but actually showing that you can do what you set out to do.

Jamm is hardly inept. He is definitely corrupt, but not inept in his work. He knows exactly what to do in order to undermine someone and uses tactics that prey on the vulnerabilities of the American legal system. Everything he does is well within the limits of US law and while it may seem wrong to you, what he does is condoned which is why he is effective. While he would never show up in the British government, faces like his are all too common in local government positions here.

Mary Sues are built on a setup that creates a character that is perfect, but the series shows that the American government system and what she does is far from that point. If she were a Mary Sue, she would have become President quite quickly. She is a classic case of The Pollyanna where the sunny disposition is retained forever. She is not perfect and her life and accomplishments are not perfect. But what she has going for her is that she never gives in (which is also far from universally accepted in her setting) and that alone is what makes her a strong character.

Yes. But that's not Leslie Knope. She isn't someone that is built on cynicism that pervades the British government. She's not there to preserve and defend, but to actively step up to making changes. Her entire situation is built to drag her work kicking and screaming into a new century and while she certainly cannot do it alone, she really doesn't have to. A key point of what makes her story complete is that she did not accomplish what she did on her own, but with the aid of the rest of her team. She alone would not be able to make her plans happen, but the point of this entire show is that a person that believes in what they do can inspire others to help build for that same goal. It's also why you have characters like Ben, April and Chris on her team. They are people that are skilled at what they do, but work with her because they know what she does has merit.
