Nicho doesn’t like contact whether in attack or defence, that’s his problem. You call them trick shots, but I call it doing anything in order not to get hit. He’s a touch football player with an average kicking game and a great passing game. He’ll run into daylight but he’ll stop on a dime when confronted. It’s okay to steer a team around yourself, but all good generals lead into battle, not just front up for the glory. I’d love to see his running meters, tackles and tries as compared to the top few halves. As much as you cant teach speed or natural talent, you cant train courage; but you can teach yourself courage - he’d better get cracking lest he fade away. He seems like a nice fella, I wish him well. Case in point; If Benji had more ticker he would have been an immortal.

Don't agree entirely, he does plenty in defence, but yes, he could take the line on more, but he is a big guy for a halfback and doesn't really have that quick acceleration off the mark and great step to create something out of nothing. To my mind he is definitely a five eighth. Gus is right though; he tries too much for the trick shot all the time, he just needs to simplify his game and be more consistent, that is how Cooper Cronk developed himself into a halfback.

What trick shots does nicho have? I must keep missing them. Cleary? He’s got tricks. Munster? He’s got tricks. Ponga? Yep.
What Nicho is missing, is the balls for big moments. The mental capacity to deal with pressure. That’s what Shane Warne had. You would NEVER see cooper Cronk shanking a kick for touch like he did in that game, that close to the line. You just don’t do it.

Let me get this right, Hynes has to save the team from itself every weekend. Every kick put up by the Storm went effectively unchallenged and that is Nicho's fault? You must be kidding me. When the Sharks forwards were effective in defence, the Storm just kicked to the right corner, got the ball back and the rest is history. Gus even said he could sense an upset during commentary but the Sharks left side let them down. Another unjustified pile on.

Just get nicho away from halves he doesn't need to be that kind of player, just play to your strength nicho which is eyes up footy and running blind sides at tired forwards with support. I would give him an extended run at 14 bring him off bench and play in the middle and just run and tackle. It is all mental for him and he has himself in a knot. I coached once and had a young half, he was playing rubbish thought he had to do everything and ended up just running sideways and passing trying to get to points on a field and kick. I made him play backrow and told him he jsut needs to do 10 hit ups a half and just bring support. All of a sudden he was running straight and laying on tries. Was just a mental switch, and when the defence thinks your a threat with the footy the space opens up around them

Sitting in the bleachers at origin 1 made it very evident his kicking game was terrible. He's got a short stabby kick that goes about 30m compared to Moses and Burton who can rip it 60m down field. He's probably better back at fullback running those mad lines he used to, and putting wingers in the corner on the wrap.
