I am now the proud owner of the hifiman arya organic, absolutely fantastic sounding headphone. Bought for ps5 just for gaming.hooked up with my ifi ven dac v2 amp. Many thanks Joe for your input on the organic review, many months ago.
This has received some good reviews, but is a little out of my price cap. Thank you to Brian for the loan, and to you for your time, efforts, and informative review, Sir. Thank you also for the brief amp introduction too. The SMSL RAW is on my list fir the future. Take care.
2:49 Pretty sure that second cable is a Hart Audio Cable - same I use with several of my headphones specifically because you can swap out the cable termination depending on the amp.
Thanks for letting me know! I suppose that's what happens when I get sent a unit from someone else lol. It wasn't mentioned so I assumed it was one of the options. Thanks again
Thanks as always. Have you also heard the ZMF Verite Closed? If not tell Zach to send you one for the ultimate ZMF Closed back comparison. That would be an awesome video.
I'm listening now to my VC, those are the reason im not interested in another closed backs, E3 is tempting but its planar I got mixed feelings toward planars
Wow, great review. I use the MM500 for mixing straight out of a Macbook Pro; it's been great even without a pre amp. I'd like to add a pair of closed backs for mixing and recording vocals. Q1] Would E3 and MM500 cover all the bases you think? Q2] Also, could you suggest an ideal mini pre amp I might buy that would compliment the pairing? Thanks for any response, Cheers from Vancouver!
Fantastic review as always! Always wanted to try the E3, but haven't heard anything DCA makes beyond their Aeon line-up (tried them all) and they always sounded good but were just, boring? Tried many headphones myself and ended up w/ Arya Stealth's and HE1000 Stealth's as my daily drivers, with an LCD-GX on the way. Would love to see a review from you on the GX's!
The Stellia is awesome! I love it for rock. It was punch but lacked the same depth as the E3. The Stellia also comes across as a brighter and much more energetic headphone. Kind of depends which tuning you like more. I covered the Stellia in the past but I didn't have it here to directly compare against the E3 unfortunately
@@GadgetryTech copy that''' but does the e3 sound amazing in its own right while playing call of duty? how do they sound for gaming i really want these headphones but i need confirmation on the sound ?
I know it is not in the same price range as any of your closed backs shown for comparison, but it would’ve been very interesting if you threw that LCD XC in the running as well. That headphone needs EQ like no ones business, but I bet it could contend in some areas with those other closed back models. ☺️.
@@criptocolorlightstech5292 You don't need 2k planar magnetics for CoD. I'm sure you can find something far cheaper that will do the job. But yes these are great at positional placement of sound and obviously sound good
I have the E3 and I cannot get it to fit comfortably. The top band feels stiff, the earcups are just too big and have too much pressure at the bottom of the pad, and when combined with the thick cable I just don't find it very comfortable. I also find it quite a bit too shouty in the 2.5-3.5k region. The Harman curve is already bordering too shouty, so the fact this goes past that just makes it sound quite shouty in certain tracks. I reduced the 2.8khz region by 3db with a Q of 2 and it did help, but I still found myself going back to my $200 wireless ROG Delta 2 headset, because when it's EQ'd it doesn't sound THAT much worse than my E3 (of course it's technically much less capable but for gaming/general media the difference is only moderate). If the E3 was more comfortable, I think I'd enjoy it a lot more. All the reviewers that said it was one of the most comfortable headphones ever made lied to me.
That's totally a fair take! I actually had a similar sentiment on the comfort chapter. I had to lift it slightly to relieve the pressure on my jaw, otherwise I preferred the comfort of the Liric II. Overall, great assessment of your experience. Thanks so much for sharing
The bass on the E3 really is fantastic, loved that part about it. Unfortunately, there was something in the midrange that didn't work out for me, so I couldn't justify paying its price. Great headphone though, and super nice review of it. Thanks 🙏
The E3 is very good, but the highs are pretty sharp and fatigued me quickly. Tli changed the source chain DAC and amp several times to soften it. It remained too hot in the highs. Yes they're more expansive sounding than the Noire, but I'd take the Noire over the E3, even with less soundstage.
Nice review! I wanted to love the E3 as I think they look great. The problem I have with the sound is the peak at 2.8 kHz. It gets fatiguing very fast. Listening to the opening of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by The Beatles was unbearable. It was like an ice pick punching a hole in my eardrum and that was on the Ferrum Stack. I managed to tame the 2.8 kHz peak somewhat using the 10 Band Eq on SoundSource.
Agree with you about power; my $179 hip-dac 3 and $200 Topping A50 III drive this fine, whereas my $1400 WA7 does not. I love how these sound. It’s also the most uncomfortable headband I’ve ever experienced. Feels like someone is cutting into my skull. A $14 pad from Amazon helps some, but I’d much rather wear my Empy II than this. May sell it.
I’m just wondering if you can review the Sony xm 3 and compare with these “audiofile “ equipment. The Sony doing almost perfect so I can’t imagine how much more better these expensive ones are
Great timing! I have the Arya Stealth and Focal Radiance as my main open/closed back sets. In terms of closed backs, would you say the E3 is considered the next step above the radiance or would you consider one of ZMF's array of closed backs, especially in terms of bass response!? Cheers!
Thanks for the review mate! I have a question for you. I use my Android phone to listen to music with my iem's/headphones. Nowadays I have too much sound options to choose and I'm confused. Should I choose dolby atmos, spatial audio or just turn them all off? I know purists always says to stick to plain stereo, but this options seem to improve the stage and directionality. I'm confused with all this options. I would love to know whats your opinion on this. Thanks in advance ❤
I almost pulled the trigger on these, but decided to go with the Audeze MM-500 instead. But this is still on my radar. Maybe I'll pick it up on the used market in a couple of years.
Hi joe these are too too heavy for gaming every every day. im currently using the fiio ft1 but ive been going back and forth witch dac amp to use the sound blaster Gc7 or the fiio k11 dac amp. Dont know which one sound's better for gaming. Which one would you choose
I would say one of the best for sure. I still really enjoy the ZMF Caldera Closed, as it has a little bit more air and a really nice punch for rock as well. It's a bit more expensive though, but both are excellent. Then you have the Liric II which is so comfortable to wear, I EQ that one and still enjoy it.
can you review the Fiio Ft5 , ive heard is good for immersive bass heavy gaming. Can you recommend me a wired headphones for 450$ for primarily Single player games. I'm looking at Sennheiser hd 620s , VZR model one and Fiio Ft5

See this is why I just paid $9,000 cash for a solid used car and take good care of it. No car payments, plenty of $$$ for headphones
What kind of car you drive that requires $3K?

I wish I can one day try something from Dan Clark Audio. Very intriguing headphones.
If you can ever attend one, look for when you could possible attend a Can Jam show! Everything under the sun is there
Got a Aeon RT Open for around 350€. But you need a strong amp to drive them. Kept them and got rid of the Aeon Noire 2.
Fun video, Can’t wait for that caldera closed review
Thank you for the E3 review 😊😊
Love your channel ❤❤
I have Dan Clark Noire closed back and they are brilliant. These are the upgrades, you definitely should shortlist them if you have the budget.
Great video. I've had my DCA E3's for some months now and I love them. Cheers!
Thanks! It's a wonderful headphone
An excellent review, thanks dude

Great review...!!! Comprehensive information presentation... well said...!!!
Since we are on the topic of high end closed headphones, I wonder how you would like the closed backs from Focal, especially the top end Stellia.
What’s up Joe my favorite question to ask you is how do they sound for call of duty? Are they on the same level as the organics or are they better?
I would prefer the organic on CoD unless you need sound isolation. The Organic has an edge due to the sound profile it has
