I've had the same experience with guppies from Asia. Last year I got some really good looking red tuxedo koi guppies. I lost several in the first couple of weeks. Once I started getting fry, about 30% of them had bent spines. It took me a couple of generations to completely breed that out of the strain. Like you, I've also noticed that a lot of the Asian guppies don't breed true. Those Santa Claus guppies really do look nice.

hey what up , so I see your infatuated with guppies like me . Well you could if you want to start off on moina cultures , moina is a live food fed to guppies and other fish too , small fish . Well all you need is a little bit of moina to start off with , you take that amount you have then fill up your tub or tank with water from a well established and mature tank and fill in the tank/tub you plan to culture moina . You then add in the moina you have in the water and get some dry yeast . Heat up a little water , make it a little hot but not too hot and then take maybe 1 and a half spoons of dry yeast ( normal spoons we use to eat ) and add it in maybe 800 ml of water and stir it up , stir the dry yeast and water in a bowl and then pour it in the tank / tub with moina . Let 2 days go by and you'll see how the moina multiply rapidly . Let the tub / tank receive sunlight . Once you have a good amount of moina you can start feeding them to the guppies and feed them alternate days . Moina will enhance the colors and growth of the guppies and color them up pretty well .
