Stake your zucchini so too. Remove all leaves below the harvested fruit. You don't need them anymore. The plant will continue to flower and fruit on new growth at the top of the plant.
Wow don't know what Earthly is going on about but I'm glad you posted about the leaves.. I haven't been able to get any zucchini or squash to set I need all the info I can get.
Great tip! I once harvested two large black trash bags full from one basil plant by similar, constant pruning. That was at the end of the season after using almost the same amount of basil trimmings. I didn’t just deadhead when it started blooming, it I clipped it at every junction to force it to branch, and double. It will do so at every single leaf junction, allowing the plants size to grow exponentially. I’ve seen so many people grow tall, spindly basil plants that barely produce anything before the one or two stalks flower and it dies. Hard pruning also works really well with pepper plants, forcing them to bush out and develop a sturdy trunk that can hold the huge harvest you will get without staking. Anyway, great video and excellent insights that I wish I had known when I first started.
I have a very small yard at my mobile home lot. Your video just doubled my production... so I OWE YOU. I will tell you a good secret method of how to grow watermelons with strawberry flavor inside. I read this in another comment section. Take a piece of yarn and thread it through a large needle. pierce the watermelon stem about 6 inches from the melon. pull the yarn into the vine and wrap it around the stem. Then every day drip some strawberry flavoring onto the yarn. The flavor will make it's way into the melon and nobody will know how you made strawberry flavored melons. Now I feel better that I paid you back. Great video sir.
You're an inspiration to all, thank you. Love watching you and tuck, and listening to your tips. Thanks for sharing and spreading the knowledge! Glad i found this channel

I'm not a believer in that theory totally. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.....PRETTY PLEASE...💚🌿🌳
You can grow things that tolerate shade well. Plants that you eat the leaves, and not the fruit. Lettuces, kales, Bok Choy, etc. research shade tolerant crops and that will Be a good guide for you 😁😁

Thank you so much I've been having the same problems with my garden growing really big and then not producing after a while. This information helped out a lot
Wow...James..i am one of your fan...i subbed your chanel long time ago. Every time i learnt something new.. You are a seasoned gardener, i like the way you described your plants ..."loaded with..." "Non drug addicted fruits or vegies"...." set them into panic mood to encourage more leaves more flowers more fruits".... those are so relatable ...i really enjoyed every videos.. And Tuck your trusted adorable companion..love him to the moon and back ! Love from Malaysia..
What he said was for fruits pick them early before they ripen well so the plant grows more fruit and plant in succession. For vegetables and herbs pick flowers immediately so it can concentrate on growing it and or it's vegetables
You reminded me of my late dad. He was a true permaculture - food forest and animal lover. I remembered he planted a mango tree with different types of mangoes at each branch as his love for my mum -.well, she loves mango so much... his fave line: there is no rich or noble man other than a man who could grow their own food and support their family. The most happiest and humble man is a man who live and grow with the nature. Once they disconnected from it, they would lost their ground.
Starting my food forest for next year. Only thing is I'm laying black plastic down to kill off the Bermuda grass first and then covering with cardboard and wood chips.
If you go deep enough with the cardboard, wood chips, hay, compost, seaweed, whatever....then you can skip the black plastic. If you cut the grass down, a single layer of cardboard sans tape and stickers is completely sufficient to suppress further growth! :-)
Great example on how to garden, respect our bodies, be considered and thankful with earth. Most of all, you are a great example of how to love our best friends: those we call dogs.
Thanks again for the informational videos Brother ;) This is my first year using woodchips to mulch in my gardens and so far have been thoroughly impressed... Keep sharing the love Man ;)
Basil should always be a fat bush. If not, you need to pinch her flowers more. Don't let the pinchings go to waste, though. All green parts of the basil plant has an enzyme that temporarily fills in, and in the long term heals, the microscopic pits and cracks in tooth enamel. I try to chew basil all day. :)
I should add that this only works for very minor enamel damage, and requires daily application over extended periods of time. Any serious enamel problems should always be addressed by a qualified professional. This is an example of why I'm NOT considered a qualified professional: th-cam.com/video/jFqNTizjCZ4/w-d-xo.html Don't try that at home, kids. :D
Hi great video I love your backyard with all the trees. One tip I have for gardeners is about zucchini and cucumbers and pumpkins of all types, they all have male and female flowers. If there are not a lot of bees around in a cloudy rainy day the female flowers will probably not be pollinated - no fruit. I hand pollinate I take the male flowers ( the flowers without a little fruit at it’s base) take the petals off ( which I put into my tadpole/frog pond the tadpoles love them) and put the male part into the female flower I get 100% pollination. You could also hand pollinate with a small soft brush if you prefer, the principle is the same using the male flower to pollinate the female flower, the one with the little fruit at its base. Cheers
Thanks So Much for all the great garden knowledge!!! I love Tuck he is such a sweet little dog I look to see what he's going to be eating each time I watch a video.
What you do with basil is perfect for peppers in the earlier stages of growth. If you pinch the center "stalk" early, it will grow as two main stalks increasing yield. Nice video. Thank you.
I really appreciate your editing, no-nonsense way of production. I can actually sit through an entire video. You are now my "go to" for info even though we are on separate shores. We're in Long Beach, WA. Look it up! Thanks and peace
Squash blooms or even Pumpkin blooms fried are so good. Can somebody tell me , is there a male and a female bloom on plants ? I was told that , did not know whether to believe it.
@@evelyndenton4840 zucchini are monecious, meaning they have male and female flowers on the same plant. The female flowers will have tiny little fruits underneath the flower. The first round of flowers usually don't fertilize, so I always fry those blossoms.
Cucumbers are actually past being ready to harvest when they BEGIN to ripen. Just like a tomato, pepper, apple, even pineapple is green and gets color as it ripens.
thanks for these videos..just planted a garden after several years of not growing..we had black plastic over it for several years...going to put some of your tips to practice
Hi .. love your videos. How to get good harvest for green bell peppers. Mine bell Peppers are still small .. how you prepare your soil for bell Peppers.. my tips will help. Thanks alot for your tips.
Thanks James I made a deal with a friend who is dropping wood chips at no cost. I’ve built 4 pallet compost bins which I’ve filled with 50/50 greens and carbon and my compost thermometer reads 100’ to130 and expect to have black compost by spring. I’ve tarped the structure and assessing the moisture. He is also is dropping wood so I bought a chain saw and wood splitter , which I’m selling from my driveway for 5$ a box. Who knows maybe I can sell compost and leaf mold next spring. Who knows I’ll be 80 next may3 so God willing I’ll grow my 2nd covid 19 garden.

Lucky dog, lucky people!
Happy dog, happy people!
I love that little guy sooooo much
@@jamesprigioni You're a great earth keeper and caring companion. Thank you!
You're an inspiration to all, thank you. Love watching you and tuck, and listening to your tips. Thanks for sharing and spreading the knowledge! Glad i found this channel
I love your sincerity and your enthusiasm about sharing especially sharing awesome tips that actually WORK AND YOU KNOW IT BEFORE EVEN SHARING THE WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE TIP! Also, that feeling that you get letting others know that it'll DEFINITELY work for them as well. IT'S A WONDERFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD! I'm grateful for you my friend. I haven't started gardening yet and I'm told that its not enough light in my yard but somehow I feel like it's some things that I should be able to grow and grow well as I'm ready and willing and finally able....then I'll told I can't because of the lack of sun in my yard space. I'm not a believer in that theory totally. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.....PRETTY PLEASE...💚🌿🌳
You can grow things that tolerate shade well. Plants that you eat the leaves, and not the fruit.
Lettuces, kales, Bok Choy, etc. research shade tolerant crops and that will
Be a good guide for you 😁😁
I just planted a 4 in 1 apple tree and 3 grape vines they were all potted plants but the grapes were starts taken from a vine locally 2 Himrod and 1 Suffolk red grape I don't think you can buy a 4in1 bare root apple tree. It has my favorite apple Granny Smith I think it is hard to grow in my area although I have seen them grown in my area If it don't work out I'll try to find one as close to a Granny Smith as possible that's suitable for my area. I'm going to put in a raised bed 4' x 10' maybe even 2 of them I also grow about 30 pots of flowers in verious pot sizes and hanging baskets and several perrenials in the flower beds just need to grow more food you're videos are motivating me to grow more fruits and vegetables keep them coming.
I love how tuck got his own cucumber and ate the whole thing. Beautiful garden
Thank you so much I've been having the same problems with my garden growing really big and then not producing after a while. This information helped out a lot
Tuck!♥️ I could watch Tuck harvest and eat garden fresh vegetables all day.
My squash is unbelievable this year. Peppers are doing terrible. Everything else started slow but it's cranking now!
Wow...James..i am one of your fan...i subbed your chanel long time ago.
Every time i learnt something new..
You are a seasoned gardener, i like the way you described your plants ..."loaded with..."
"Non drug addicted fruits or vegies"...." set them into panic mood to encourage more leaves more flowers more fruits".... those are so relatable ...i really enjoyed every videos..
Omg honestly this is an AMAZING video!!! I’ve watched a lot of YT videos on different YTubers channels and non like this. Thank you for making this.
An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Really enjoying your videos and watching Tuck in the garden just being the adorable pup he is!
I love how there is no BS in this video...just gets to the point. Excellent!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms not Bermuda grass.
@Penumbra cardboard isn't supposed to last long. It's just to smother the grass. But it takes more than cardboard to kill out Bermuda grass.
I’d wager to say there’s a better way that won’t embed even more plastic into the ground. Plastic is a very real threat to the environment.
@@DesireeCeleste the plastic isn't going into the ground. It will be used for other things once the grass is killed off.
I been following your advice and my vegetable
Harden and Rose's are in
Abundance. Well appreciated.
I love to hear that my friend ❤️❤️
Hello!! Loved that quote “the first step to doing better is to FIND out how things work!!!”
❤️ Love that quote!!!
Great information!!
Thank you!!
Great example on how to garden, respect our bodies, be considered and thankful with earth. Most of all, you are a great example of how to love our best friends: those we call dogs.
Tuck is a treasure. He makes us ALL happy. Love him for us…….
Who would give this video a thumb down?? Loved this one and loved seeing Tuck! He really is a fun part of your videos!
Thanks again for the informational videos Brother ;) This is my first year using woodchips to mulch in my gardens and so far have been thoroughly impressed... Keep sharing the love Man ;)
You're welcome Bobby! Glad to hear the wood chips are working well for you, mulch is a gardeners best friend in my opinion :)
@@jamesprigioni Yes Sir ;)
my 2nd yr.
If you use a really deep layer of mulch and paper, how often do you need to reapply the mulch?
depends but prolly every 3-5 yrs if deep like 8" I used 4" and need more now after two yrs..
Really?l? Oh wow, thanks for this, I'll def try!
Awesome thanks 👍
Thanks for the dental tip
I should add that this only works for very minor enamel damage, and requires daily application over extended periods of time. Any serious enamel problems should always be addressed by a qualified professional.
This is an example of why I'm NOT considered a qualified professional: th-cam.com/video/jFqNTizjCZ4/w-d-xo.html
Don't try that at home, kids. :D
Wait so you just literally pinch the leaves every day to make it big?
Love ur pup who eats ur garden fruits ... such a happy puppy :)
Cheers
Awesome video! Thank you!
Great video and wonderful garden..... enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Little Tuck is tucking his toys away in the woodchips huh? Love it! He's a good boy! 👏😁🥒🐶
I just love your enthusiasm and excitement for gardening.
Thanks So Much for all the great garden knowledge!!! I love Tuck he is such a sweet little dog I look to see what he's going to be eating each time I watch a video.
Thank you so much!! I'm a new gardener just learning.
You're welcome my friend!! I'm glad you are finding value in the channel
OMG!
What an amazing thumbnail pic!
Love the information. I did this method with my peppers this year and they are producing like crazy. Thanks for sharing the information 😊
Tuck eats the best out of all of us fresh!
Amazes me that he is here to broadcast this video live, everytime I click on the link. Incredible dedication.
Don't forget you can cut the zucchini and squash flowers, batter them up, and fry for a bomb treat!!
Yess!!! We make zucchini n squash quesadillas & tacos topped with a fresh spicy salsa! They’re delicious
Fry the carrot tops, too. They are delicious
Travis Macord ....🧐..... say what....?
Wow I wouldn’t have thought of eating them... 🤯
Cucumbers are actually past being ready to harvest when they BEGIN to ripen. Just like a tomato, pepper, apple, even pineapple is green and gets color as it ripens.
Yes. Did you miss the part where he said he deliberately left that one to ripen?
thanks for these videos..just planted a garden after several years of not growing..we had black plastic over it for several years...going to put some of your tips to practice
Hi .. love your videos. How to get good harvest for green bell peppers. Mine bell Peppers are still small .. how you prepare your soil for bell Peppers.. my tips will help. Thanks alot for your tips.
This is for Tuck
Great videos and Tuck is so lucky eating all the good veggies for him.💜
Thanks James I made a deal with a friend who is dropping wood chips at no cost.
Good boy tuck , thanks for sharing your story
So you're telling me when I did that to the basil and other plants in my garden for fun it was actually helping them
Your sorta making the plant freak out actually
Always a joy to watch your videos! Your energy is amazing 👍
Thank you for your fun and informative videos, James! I also love Tuck!
Tuck is just so cute! I can just picture him intently listening to you tell him how much everyone loves him😁Thanks for another great video, I used to take the flowers off my coleus plants to make them bigger, I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me to do that with my veggies?!?
Great tip James! The food forest is looking fantastic!
James and Tuck: I have an idea for a new shirt for the merch line.
A picture of Tuck eating a carrot with, "I ate the carrot, but I did not eat the broccoli" as a tag line. Then we could have a Tuck T Shirt to go with the Food Forest shirts! Many blessings from NE Missouri!
That Bob Marley reference.
Love it!!
Yes..and put a rastafari hat on Tuck...lol
I ate the cucumber... but I did not eat the hamburger
oh no noo
Like I shot The Sheiff but I did not shoot the deputy
Is there anything better, gentle music, warm sunshine, beautiful garden, and a sweet little dog to love. Paradise.
Who knew Jersey had dudes who dig gardening veggies?! ;-) Awesome. As a New Englander, I savvy your quick-talk, man. It's a little fast for our southern and western folk, but don't sweat it -- be who you are. You have an abundant garden, so you obviously know a few things. You got good info across in this video and you clearly love this subject. That combination makes a quality channel. Keep up the good work! I remember when my mom told me about pulling the flowers off the Basil -- wow -- what a difference.
Thanks James gotta do this in my garden too
I have to admit, the first time I watched one of your videos, I was thinking “this guy is something else..” but now I know you are 😂 I love all of your tips and gardening advice, watching Tuck run around, and the music you have in the videos. What is the song at the end by the way? 😂
You should take some of those beautiful tomatoes , spicy peppers, onions and garlic and make some great salsa. Plus you can add some of those sweet peppers.
My Urban Garden Mary You’re making me hungry 😆
