    You should have mentioned it's also a popular concert venue where they have several shows a week each summer, both Swedish and international and it's included in the entrance fee. A major booking may also be a good thing for getting on rides because a lot of people come just for the shows.

    One cool fact about Gröna Lund is that they have tons of concerts in the summers. For example this summer you have artists like Ava Max, Hozier and Wiz Khalifa and bands like Gojira. And in the past Elton John, Marilyn Manson and many more have performed at Gröna Lund.

    • @sk8rfool

      And it's super cheap! 290 sek (~$30) gets you free entrance for the whole season, where all of the concerts are included.

    I'm from Stockholm (currently live in Hampton Roads, VA), this park has REALLY improved in the last 10 years or so. It used to be just a slab of concrete with rides on top of it basically, but they've done so much to make it look nice, put some theming in there and expanded the hell out of their ride selection. I remember when the first Intamin giant drop tower was made (it used to be an observation tower and they converted it), the amount of press it got was insane! No one had experienced anything like it before. I also rode that Swarzkopf (I think it was at least) portable coaster they had outside the park in a parking lot for one season, it was called Thriller. I think it's located in Mexico or something like that now. That also got a huge amount of press, mainly because it caused some neck injuries apparently, lol. Anyway, I tend to visit this park whenever I go back home to visit, always a good time, especially after a couple of beers with good friends :)

      @beardedgeek973 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it WAS great (like 30 years ago and before that), then bad, then great again. Yeah, back in the day they had no real coasters. Jetline was actually their first they had for a looong time. But back then the park had more of a Tivoli (Copenhagen) feel, more carousels, swings etc and a lot of scenery. Then they started adding stuff with no thought... that's when it was at it's worst. And ugliest. But somehow adding even MORE rides made it work; I guess they got some actual architects (normal ones, not ride builders) to help and it's much more beautiful now than it was 10-15 years ago.

If you wanna go to a concert and not ride anything the only thing you'll have to pay for is the entrance which is pretty cheap actually. Lady Gaga, Bob Marley, Elton John, Carly Rae Jepsen are just a few artists that have been there.

    Very nice video! I'm working in the park (my 5th year now) and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! It's too bad you missed Lustiga Huset (Fun House) which is almost like a time-capsule into older amusement parks and how they operates. One can tell that it's been there for a long time. If you were there on the 6th then I can imagine that it was packed: Both for the holiday, but also because one of Sweden's biggest pop-stars had a concert in the park that day.
    That is one thing I think should be added: Gröna Lund hosts a lot of concerts, and while some of the names might just be known to locals, occasionally we manage to book a big one. This year it was Sting, last year we had Billy Idol, and the year before Sir Elton John! That's something to look out for, because if you want to visit just for the rides, then you probably want to pick another day for it.
    The unisex bathrooms are quite new for us; but they're getting more and more common in Sweden. Most restaurants still have separate though.
    One should also note that smoking is very restricted in the park; currently we only have two smoking-areas, both on the bigger side of the park.
    Hope you visit us again when we have the new roller coaster up and running! I believe it's slated for 2021. Also note, that if you're part of a roller coaster enthusiast-group, we sometimes arrange for such groups to visit us before or after the park closes; that way they get to try all the big rides without the long waiting times. Might be worth to look into, I'm not sure how exactly we set those up but send a mail to the park to see how it works.
    :)

    I love Gröna Lund! Sure, it doesn't have the biggest rollercoasters or a million attraction but the feeling you get from being there is unbeatable. And you HAVE to stay until closing during summer at least once, evening here with the lights turned on and the beautiful sunsets we get are incredible. Another thing: Gröna Lund hosts huge concerts all summer long so a couple of times a week the main plaza in the park gets full of people watching. Swedens biggest artists have all played there along with international artists like Hozier, Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore and Zara Larsson. Riding rides and hearing the music from the main stage is amazing.

The thing is that they don't own the land (don't think they are allowed to) and they often have noise complaints from neighbors (probably that Abba guy) which means they can't run the noisy roller coasters at night. I think it has changed a bit since I was younger, and also because they have built the coasters more toward the southeastern part of the park these days.
    Jet Line was the first real roller coaster they had that I remember, it replaced a log flume they had before.

    It's hard to go to amusement parks with my friends these days, but Gröna Lund is a place I visit multiple times every summer cause they host great gigs all summer long. Really cheap too, a season pass is just ~29 euro. So I'll go see multiple shows, and go on 2-3 rides before. It's a pretty unique atmosphere to have people going on rides while a punk band is playing in the background. And a cool piece of trivia is that Jimi Hendrix used to play there.

    The fun house is THE BEST thing at Gröna Lund! Unfortunate that you missed it, it's everyone's favorite from 7 to 30. It's very compact as mentioned, and they don't have VIP lines. People usually get an annual pass, so basically, teenagers come there together just to hang out and if they feel like it, they ride something. :)
    BTW! The dancing lessons are not cultural, I've never heard of random Salsa lessons. However, Gröna Lund usually has magicians and performers there, so professional dancers coming there to teach dancing wouldn't be a surprise!

    If you want to see Gröna Lund after dark, I recommend you come back later in the season, sometime during August. If you go in June or July, it doesn't really get dark at night. (It's currently 10.40 PM here, the sun only just set an hour ago, and it's still bright outside.) I would not consider that a bad thing however because Gröna Lund is GORGEOUS at dusk. I once rode Eclipse (the swing ride tower) just as the sun was going down and the view was just breathtaking.
    Also, if you do come back, make sure you do Lustiga Huset -- it's like walking through an insane fever dream, in the best possible way. And go to a concert if you can -- they're the best thing about Gröna Lund in my opinion.

  • @SIperianSusi83
    @SIperianSusi83 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Haha, the salsa is actually what brings me there every weekend. It's awesome! You pay about $30 for a season pass and you get to dance salsa and bachata for the entire summer, and you get about 60 concerts in addition.
    Sundays are my favorites. That"s when they focus in Cuban salsa.

    As mentioned by others, the concerts are the best thing at Gröna Lund. It's really nice to get there early because you only pay the entrance fee to the park, then you can go ride some coasters or whatever, grab a few beers and then at night just go see the concert. Or watch the concert from the roller coasters and drop towers :-) The stage is in the very middle of Gröna Lund so it has a really cool effect at night when its dark. Lenny Kravitz, Sting, Smashing pumpkins and Dropkick Murphys for an example have already played this summer and there so many more artists coming :-)

    Many are similar to what we have in Finland
    By the way a little "map" to finnish amusement parks if you ever decide to go:
    Linnanmäki: In Helsinki. Easy to go to since it is in the middle of everything. Free entrance but if you want to use the rides 42€ per day, 9€ for a ride. Opened up Finland's best rollercoaster Taiga this year.
    Powerpark: In the middle of fields and almost nothing surrounds it. Has Finland's second best rollercoaster Junker. A day costs 38€.
    Särkänniemi: Middle of Tampere. The price is about the same.

    I have been here, and been to Tivoli Copenhagen the day before. Discovered both parks by "accident". What confused me at Tivoli is that you can get a ticket just to get in - not including any rides. When I was at Tivoli, I accidentally bought that. Then inside I found out about my mistake and had to buy a ride pass. Gréna Lund has also got a fare that doesn't let you ride anything... But at least they are more clear about it. So when I came to Gréna Lund, I bought the right type of ticket right away.

      @@CoasterStudios You could check the Gröna Lund website: "Entrance" only lets you in; "Rides" and "Ride package" includes the admission and the rides. You shouldn't take your car if you're in downtown Stockholm. There is basically no parking, and if there is it's very expensive. Easiest and most often the fastest way to get around is by bus, tram, subway or simply walking. Our public transport is great even if we swedes zealously complain about it. Downtown Stockholm isn't huge and you can get to most touristy places by foot within 20 minutes of walking from the city center (T-centralen).
    There is also Uber and electric scooters like most major cities around the world. We also have a cool app-taxi called Bzzt. It's electric mini cars with three wheels that fit two passengers. It's very fun to ride in and relatively inexpensive if you don't want to take public transport.
    Best way to get to Gröna Lund or Skansen on the Djurgården island is to take the ferry from Slussen, it takes like 5 minutes to get across the water. At the moment, there is a huge construction project in Slussen that will be done in 2030 I think. But regardless the ferry is easy to find and everything is signposted in English and Swedish with arrows telling people how to get to Old Town (Gamla Stan), the ferry, etc.
    The best time to visit Gröna Lund is to do it early on Mondays to Thursdays in May, June, and August (September is too cold). Fridays are the most common day for school trip visits, and people taking the day off work to go with their families.
    Preferably don't go in July especially not on weekends because that's when most Swedes have vacation. Swedish families + tourists usually go to Gröna Lund in July and it gets packed at 2PM every day. Also, avoid at all costs to go on the 6th of June (National day) or Midsummer weekend (dates vary between 19-25 June). Try to get there before noon (they open at 10AM). Then you can ride all the good stuff with virtually no queues what so ever (in May, June and August) before 2-3PM when people start to show up at the park. Then you can leave and go to Skansen on the other side of the street instead :)

    Actually. Jetline is not made by Schwarzkopf. Jetline was a coaster that was an exact copy of Nightmare at Camelot in the UK, and both were DESIGNED by Schwarzkopf, but Schwarzkopf contracted the manufacturing out to Zierer. So both Jetline and Nightmare are ultra rare because they are the only two Ziere/Schwarzkopf coasters that were ever built. Zierer is usually known for their large Tivoli family coasters, but they DID make some thrilling coasters with Schwarzkopf
