Thank you all ! im very proud of the video and of all the great people who are either in it or made it happen . I wanted to to portray a feeling of friendship and community . Of place and of people . We all have an old neighborhood and we all have a memory of the kids we grew up with . In this video i want to evoke those memories we all have and as the song and images go by i want the viewer to remember their own history and their own childhood kinships .
James Maddock Dear Mr. Maddock. You accomplished what you set out to do with this song in SPADES!!! I couldn't help but be absolutely flooded with memories of the kids I grew up with and was almost moved to tears. I am so glad I discovered your song. I had only heard one of your songs before and instantly liked it but this song is an absolute masterpiece. God bless you, your bandmates and the talent you all share with us your new fans. Please take care of yourself and be safe and well. You sir are without a doubt a gift to the world. I look forward to hearing your songs for a very long time.
As a kid growing up in the late 70s and only a couple of miles away from his "old neighbourhood" Going to gigs at De Montfort Hall three maybe four times a week was the norm. Blondie, The Clash, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees and dozens more but today I heard the music of James Maddock for the first time and only because I was reading the writing credits whilst listening to some old albums by The Waterboys. Few things have changed...although a Gypsy friend of mine no longer has to "park his car" as he now owns the farm and much of the land east of the village lol
So much depth and breadth to James Maddock's catalogue! It's always like your hearing a friend echoing the thoughts in your head (and often your heart as well)! One of America's great songwriters! (Yes, I know where he was born but we're stealing him!)
I haven't heard a song in such a long time that I've enjoyed so much. The words, the melody, the music and arrangement are all fantastic.I can't believe that this song hasn't become a huge hit. It's the kind of song I would actually go out and buy. It's a shame that there is just so much crap out there they call music that's being crammed down our throats every day by the big record companies. Keep up the good work James.
There's much more than brilliant songwriting and musicianship here . This is a star in it's full magnitude . Good job by all involved in this superb production .
Heard this song it was attached to a Reunion DVD. I sadly missed. Thank You to all the Old Ghosts who put it together!!! And turning me on to this song and this AMAZING ARTIST! Thank You James!!! I see you will be playing in NY I will be there!!!
I love this so much.. the sweet sentiment and heartfelt warmth. And because maybe once a year or so, I go back to my hometown and drive by my childhood home and sit and look at it, and think of all the memories made there.
Just listened to this song for the hundreth time, came to my attention because of the connection with the Railway. Amazing song, stirs up a lot of memories of growing up in Countesthorpe a long time ago :)
No matter how often -- and believe me it is often -- I hear this song, it brings a tear to my eye. The video is beautiful. I think most of us can relate to the memories we carry from when we were young and the years that formed who we are today.
Thank you to all the lovely people who made such heartwarming comments . I love the way this video came out . Thanks go to Mary Ellen Matthews who really put the whole thing together . It contains so many of my closest friends and family and my hometown of Countesthorpe Leicester . Please keep in touch on my FB page jamesmaddockmucic/Facebook.com And my website Jamesmaddock.net I have a new album coming in the fall . Love to you all James maddock Brooklyn NYC April 2017
James, melody, lyric & vocals are wonderful. I endorse musicians who know how to write a great song & you have. Being you seem to control the music please upload it to the No Depression website. I write & review there. This song would be perfect for its listeners too. TH-cam is great -- but No Depression is more audience specific. Your music will shine there. I may try & review it also -- as I have done for the talented & award winning Donna Dean of New Zealand. Great work.
Brilliant and a privilege to be one of those kids you knew the name of, and it was such a surprise to see you outside the Railway filming for the video...and of course a privilege to be in the video and as a skinny boy in the photo.. Happy days and love to your mum & dad xx
Wow James, just found this on TH-cam, how fantastic. I had a crush on you at coutesthorpe college for about two years.. Have lived in Hamburg now for the past 30 years.. you look well. Kind regards Joanne Hooper
Hi James.... I'm from Countesthorpe (Nick Turley's sister, Debbie)... LOVE your song... absolutely fantastic !!! SO moving looking at the pictures of the Square, Gwendoline Drive, the Chippy.... and of course Ian Gosling !!! Fabulous.
I just came across this song under new releases on iTunes today. The single and video is on the deluxe edition version of the Wake Up and Dream album. It is an instant classic.
Hi James, It was nice to meet you the other night in Asbury Park, NJ. I discovered this song of yours and I love it!. Some of us might be able to make it to your cd release show in NYC on Fri Feb 8th. Hope to see you there!
Ohhhh, sweet of my luck, which drove me to your site James Maddock! (Eoin Woods, Susanne McKeown) Are you coming to Budapest sometime????? Please do so!! :-) I am amazed by your music and voice!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Your dad once gave me a very early recording which I still have. From memory I think the picture was in a boys loo! You have come on since then lol your dad always had faith in you!
This is great! I just looked you up James - the last time I saw you was at Goldsmith's College in the 80's. I'm from Wigston originally. Now living in Budapest. You're ever out this way, please look me up!
ClownPoet Did he look you up ever since? I just learned of HIM tonight and I am amazed.....Cant go to sleep now. Pls. let me know, if you have any news on the 'subject'! :-)
@@katimagos Be great to see James show up out here. The current situation puts a big stopper on things, but it would be great. It'd be especially nice to see a JM show happen here - Hungarians would totally cream for songs/singing voices like this.
@@TM-dh8um Hi! You are a bit slow answerer... :-) I wrote that 5 years ago. :-) But yes, I fully agree with you! Guess what! Eversince, I went to Italy to one of his shows in a tiny town in Padova. We met in person, did before and after "party" with his friends and crew...Me, on my own. Very nice ppl. One of my best decision of my life!
@@katimagos I heard about the Italian shows from a friend there, who also sent me one photo he took. Wasn't James opening for Lucinda Williams out there as well? Anyway, well done for making it to the shows! I'm sure it was excellent.
@@katimagos Kati, I also (only just now) studied your name and realised you are Hungarian. I guess I'm being 'slow' in lots of ways, huh? Sorry about that. By the way, I am also 'ClownPoet' on TH-cam, but my real name is Ashley
thanks martin . I know what you mean .It felt like that when i wrote it ( a few months ago) I thought 'where has this been lurking in my brain for all these years? It certainly feels like an old song doesn't it ? very perceptive of you . Thanks for the great message
When o when will you come DC???????? I heard a cover band and bar do one of your songs a couple weeks ago, but it sure would be great to get you down here.
Good song, great hook, interesting video. I'm an exiled Lestrian with family in Countesthorpe/Cosby. The boy on the far right 4.05 looks like a Garratt from Reed Pool Close. Am I right?
Colorful...I'd go anywhere..can you imagine how much fun he'd be toss in' him into the car with a couple of friends, an ICE COLD beer and any direction his mind could take you?
