  • In the second episode of my new series "PW50 Adventures", we document our day at Spyder MX's new PeeWee Land indoor mini-MX track! I'll let the video give the details, but this place is AWESOME!
This is the first time we've been to Spyder MX, which is about an hour away from us in Wildwood Florida. The track is VERY easy to get to, about a mile off the Florida's Turnpike. The facility is very well maintained for an MX track, with a nicely set up registration area and even an on-site pizza stand. The track is housed entirely in a giant open-sided arena, which is an amazing thing considering the track will never be shut down due to weather, which happens a lot here in Florida. The track is made up of the surrounding dirt, which is a loamy with a loose consistency, not sandy, but not hard-packed either. Surprisingly abnormal to Florida, there are small rocks and shell type things in the dirt, but not big enough to be roosted or effect the small bikes. The track is set up like a mini supercross track, and with it is more technical with jumps, turns, whoops, berms, and elevation changes, which make it an absolute blast to ride! The jumps are not "kicky" to where the small bikes will get air, and the only jump that was a little sketchy was the double, which was shallow, but spaced a little off for a PW50. My CRF110 could clear it, but the PW50 would hit the face of the landing if speed was carried. I just told Rennen to "scrub it" so he knew to not try and jump it. Either way, it was safe even if it was cased on the 110, or singled on the PW50. The whoops were something unique, as most peewee tracks won't have these, but they were spaced far enough apart and shallow enough that the little PW50 glided right over them without catching air. That is paramount to whoops on a PW track from our experiences!
Most important to any PeeWee track, is that the track is independent of the main MX track, which ensures the small bikes can run non-stop. At first there was no structured run groups, but more 110 sized bikes showed up with adults to practice for a big race that weekend, and they separated them into two groups: kids, and adults. It worked well. Overall, Spyder MX is easily the best place so far in our journeys to ride a PW50. Rennen absolutely loved it, and I had a blast on the 110!
We'll be exploring and discovering as many Peewee tracks in Florida as we can, with the hopes of doing an episode like this at all of them. We hope this will help fellow PW parents like me who like to get an idea of what the PW tracks are like BEFORE we go through loading up everything and heading out! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!
