Wow, that car brings back memories. I was working in Oz, in Perth,WA specifically and I had a 1999 AU sedan that same color. It wasn’t the best looking car out there, but I wanted basic and reliable transportation and that car delivered it in spades, I really liked it the more I drove it. I only owned it for two years before I went back to the States but it only gave me trouble once right after I bought it. It was leaking power steering fluid, iykyk. I went to the spares shop and it went like this:
Me: Hi, I have a 1999 AU Falcon and the power steering is leaking and…
Spares Guy: Yep, here you go.
He turned around and popped the little part right down on the counter without missing a beat. If I recall, it was like a little pressure switch that screwed into the rack. Anyway we drove the wheels off of that car from Albany up to the Pinnacles with Yanchep being our favorite beach area. We would go past the public beach up into the residential area and park and have our own private beach. Anywho, it was a great car and I’m sorry that Ford dropped out of making cars in Oz.

Thanks for saving the AU Mark.
    Especially an XR6 VCT manual.
I once sold a beautiful galaxy blue Tickford XR6 VCT AU1 with the biplane wing that i lovingly restored, i had countless young dudes wanting to know if it does good burn outs e.t.c, to whom i refused to sell it to.
It eventually went to a good home.

Well done, Mark on saving the XR6 form, as you said, a fate worse than death.
Brings back lots of memories -- I had two AUII Falcons (Forte and Futura) as company cars at different times. Arguably not the best looking Falcon ever made (by a long shot!) but, boy, they could take a lot of abuse -- everything from towing my V8 Commodore rally car all over the countryside to getting pounded around Winton on Fun Days. A manual XR6 with a VCT engine would've been magic!!
    Keep up the great work!

G'day Mark ..Huge fan of your channel by the way..I also have an AU Series 2 but mine is thge Futura Classic ..She has really faded paint due to being out in the weather for the 21 years so far I've owned her .. She has been always serviced correctly though and drives superbly ..Intech 157 kw SOHC withe the 4 speed auto. Needed one brake caliper , alternator because of a very slow power steering drip eventually causing issues , starter motor last year went , Cooling system still totally original and doesn't matter how hot , never runs much above a third on gauge , one wheel alignment in two decades and really even tyre wear still ...and drives simply beautifully and solid on the road ..Often mentioned by others travelling with me ...remote mirrors no longer work but all four power windows do ,A/C is okay , not much rust to be visually evident apart from a bit now appearing in bottom of bootlid ...I love this old bird ... Also a gorgeous FG XR6 too..Great vids...

The basic sedans where never the prettiest for sure , and they copped a shit canning from the Holden boys and the press too when they where new , and the series one poverty models with the waterfall grille probably where the ugliest 😆, even the xr series looked like a cockroach to me , but they where a fantastic car to own and one of the best cars to actually drive and sit in , driving position , pedal placement , control placement , comfortable seats you sit in (rather than on like the b series), you could do a Melbourne to Sydney and not feel sore , I had my series 2 xr6 for 15 years , I loved that car , still not without one or two little faults like all cars , but still a really good car.
Seeing Mark bring this one back to life is giving me bad ideas about resurrecting my old steed that’s been sitting out on the front lawn for about 3 years .
Another thing I found with the XRs with their good handling and nice steering is they tow really well , mine did thousands of Ks with big ugly old caravan on the back, and it was like laser beam going down the highway , that Au IRS was bloody good .
