- Both Siri and Cortana are advertised as having great personality and great functionality, so Cam decided to test them against each other. Comparing productivity, usefulness, sense of humor, personality and efficiency.
Siri has been around since 2011, when the iPhone 4s launched. Cortana is much younger, and yet it's surprising how good the new kid on the block is.

If it's been officially released then it's not a beta. Apple has just had a little longer to add better voice recognition software and other things to make Siri kick Cortanas ass. (For the most part)

Sacha-yves jean-louis eh, someone doesnt quite get what beta means. Beta is released to a set of individuals. When you release it publicly as a program on a phone, that is official release. It may be a major part of MOS10 and may get a nice set of additions to make it a better software, but it is indeed released to the public. I will agree that Cortana has lots of potential and is surprisingly a competitor to Siri despite it's recent release, but we still have to see what develops in the next few years. Though Cortana has potential, Siri might yet increase just as much, putting Cortana still behind in terms of use, then again Cortana may gain a lot of features that Siri now has, and Siri may stagnate. We may never know.

so refreshing to come across someone that uses clear stated logic to justify a belief. Although I think that Cortana has already surpassed Siri in terms of being a "personal" assistant opposed to "assistant" I think you made some really good points about the polished atvantage of Siri as opposed to Cortana, which I think is the reason it gets your wife's name wrong and the reason you still cant send emails with it. But Microsoft has jumped the gun on a cosmic level, so i'm far more excited about where Cortana is going then where it is now

True, but in order for him to have Cortana understand all of your contact names, you have to literally have her try different ways to pronounce them. Then if she still can't get it right, he would need to type it the way he wants her to pronounce it. It worked with my Lumia 925

That was a great comparison, Cam. After I watched Marco review the Lumia 635 I thought PhoneDog was clueless about Windows Phones (he even said that he hadn't used a Windows Phone in a long time). He also said that Cortana was nowhere close to Google Now, which isn't true. Google Now can't do call based reminders either, and can't directly adjust settings like turning off Wifi using voice. I would say the three are on par, with each having their strengths and weaknesses.
Cortana isn't a finished product yet, considering it's still in beta. But it's a very good start. I hope they continue developing its features, and double down on its performance. It could be incredible.

Cortana is in beta. If you tap her tile on the start screen and look up in the top right corner it is very unobtrusively marked BETA in all caps. But yes I agree. Siri is better for now, but Cortana has a lot of potential.

I have just upgraded to windows 10 and Cortana is working just great, I have an iPhone 6s I tested Siri and both of them are working fine even tho Cortana is new to the market its pretty promising. oh and Cortana can send emails and can tell jokes and ask riddles etcetc

Siri was made for what it can do best which is to request things and I think Microsoft worked on Cortana so you could have conversations with her like a real person.But I still love Siri bc in a Apple fan

Even in new development, Cortana still functions pretty well for certain tasks and has great personality. Siri is more than likely in its prime and it's still doesn't feel like it's going anywhere much. Yes Siri is better today, ONLY because Siri became more and more updated way before Cortana came out. Even after all this though, Cortana feels like a novice super model. Great potential, and high expectations. Kinda like XboxOne and PS4. Eventually the next gen will be waaaaay better than the previous one. Lets hope Cortana can actually compete next time.
as for the chatting thing, siri does tell jokes and is humorous at times, but other times it will say it cant. Note divide 0 by 0 will always get you the same thing though.

I own two phones one is the windows and the other iphone 6+, what I saw is that cortana cannot do many of the things( it always goes and searches the net, which is really annoying) but when it comes to siri it was really great, much much better than cortana, the main thing is that siri understood almost everything i told it, so my opinion is don't go for a windows phone, and I speak from experience, its really bad the apps are very less, you would hate it after buying.
I know Microsoft lied to all of us in an ad showing visually that Siri won't respond whereas Cortana does but the winner is Siri. Apple rules...

Poor review. I'm guessing he programmed "Elouise" into Siri, and made sure the command would work before the demonstration. I tried it on my Siri, and she failed miserably -- Siri also thought I was saying "Eloise".
Also, this guy is heavily accented. If he bothered to pronounce clearly, everything related to speech would have worked just fine. (I tested it on my windows phone.)
"ELOISE" is a common french name pronounced: "Eh-Lwas".
"ELOUISE" is an extremely uncommon variation that is most likely a misspelling, justifying the mistake both systems make.

You mcan't compare these side by side because Cortana is still in it's infancy. Its not fair.
Cortana learns as she goes. It will learn what you mean over time. (like a sudo AI) The first few times, you might have to be specific with what you mean.
Plus it was the US version of cortana that didn't understand English names. I think this was before version 1 of the cortana beta
The commercial did a "side-by-side" comparison, and they only said what Cortana can do what Siri can't, but this comparison did what people did everyday, and compared that. I think it's even myself.
So does Siri. And MS themselves made a side by side comparison in their advertisements, so why can't we do the same?

It's called advertising! Apple did it with Siri when she first was released, and boy was she underwhelming apart from the clever jokes and things.

My 2.3 Ghz quad core note 3 stutters once every 5 sec while scrolling google plus feed & 1.3GHz dual core iPhone 5S doesn't.
You'll also notice stutters in note 4 review by MKBHD for example soundcloud app.
Cortana was released after Siri but Windows had Speech Recognition years before Siri.
Windows Speech rec. - 2007, Siri - 2011
Mac OS X had speech recognition way before that. It already was on my old 2003 iBook. I don't know about anything before that.
