After watching a few interviews of Javed Akhtar Ji I have really come to admire this man.He is an encyclopedia of knowledge and a treasure of talent , add to that his wicked sense of humor and this man becomes an absolute delight to listen to, I respect him greatly and am thankful that Bollywood still has powerhouses of talent and information like him.A very amiable and likable guy indeed.

because not every state in India speaks Hindi. English is taught everywhere.

I think real Rationalism belongs to him ! His way of explaining and presenting thing in a logical way is outstanding ! He is an atheist! And wht i love the most about the atheists that They are Damn ‘Truthfull’ , ‘honest’ and Rational because they dont wnna be in good books of any1 so they are truthfull ! A religious person always takes the help of lies to prove their point with logic If Its totally illogical ! A small aside: the lighting is a little flat, especially on Javed saab's side. You could either grade it or put a strong back-light next time. Also, the grading of the video leaves something to be desired. A bit too greenish. Else, a really solid interview! :)

He tells his poem in urdu/hindi and explains it in English. Says something about the Indian middle class/elites; that we know English better than our own languages. Colonial hangover much!
ha ha ha ha ha ha. Absolutely. I cannot believe why these people talk in English or Non-Urdu language when they are the elite of Urdu. It is their job to talk, write and think in Urdu. Indians are typical people.

Because India has more English speaking people than the whole Europe combined, let alone the English understanding Population.
very simple....the interviewer is speaking in English. And frankly, I don't understand why should a writer speak only in the language he writes in? He is as fluent in English!
