    My happiest memories are of swinging in the long summer evenings. I'm now 56 and suddenly the thought just literally jumped into my head! So, I'm going to talk it through with my husband, show him this video and hope he's in favour of making it with me!
    Thanks for the video! 🤗 xx

      You’re welcome! I still love to swing. It is very nostalgic. I hope you convince him to build one. 😊 There’s nothing better than swinging at dusk when the lightening bugs start to come out.

    Pretty easy build, I’d throw a cross brace in between the a-frame to give it better stability.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! You can use a cross brace, if you want. BUT, with this type of steel frame, it's not needed. You can look at the swing sets on the ads for frames like this and the Eastern Jungle Gym DIY Instructions for a swing set made with this frame bracket and none of them use a cross brace. I can swing pretty high on this swing and there's no movement. I've actually thought about using that space for a couple of rings, climbing rope, or something else they can climb on. 👍

      I want to build something that my whole famiy can swing on and I wasn't sure if this style would be sturdy enough. It was reassuring to see even the adults swinging on it, didn't budge it. Thanks!

    at what angle did you cut the legs at the bottom??

  • @KevboKev
    @KevboKev 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    So this swing set isn't anchored down at all? The feet are not cut at an angle to be flat on the ground either? Trying to better understand the stability here. Thank you so much for the detailed video!

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The pointy end of each leg sinks into the ground a few inches from its own weight and use. After a week or so, I couldn’t even see the bottom of the posts. Once it gets a couple of inches in the ground it stops sinking because of the larger surface area holding it up (whole post has contact with ground). Mine has never shifted or popped off the ground, it’s been 3 or 4 years. It’s much heavier than store bought metal swings, with a wider base. 👍

      @@AbbottsAtHome Just completed mine similar to yours. I have same size round swing. I did 18” space for the swings and 15” in between. Came out sturdy as a rock. I added the cross boards (2x6) on the sides, and will sister another board then screw a third one on top on the broad side to make it like a small table to place drinks and other stuff. Thank you for getting responding.

    Did you cut angles at the feet of the legs to correspond with the angle it comes out from the cross bar so the legs sit flush to the ground?

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, just straight cuts. It’ll settle into the dirt pretty quickly. 👍

  • @stevemabe

    Stephanie , if you add a brace across the end post approximately, how long would that need to be trying to guess what I need before I go to the store and buy the lumber. Thank you for your help. Love your video. Very good explanation.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd guess you'd need 2 - 8' long boards. It's a pretty wide spread on those legs.

    Can I check, you used beech wood? I’ve been told this is the only wood we can get hold of in portugal but someone advised me NOT to use beech as it’s a softwood and will break easily.

    I love this and decided to try it. You either got lucky with the bolts that came with the brackets or weren’t completely truthful about your experience. Over half the. Lots would not fit my 1/2” socket but. And the 4x6 also wouldn’t fit and I tried for 3 hours to get it on the way you said in the video, no luck. I was so frustrated.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry you had a bad time of it. The video was my real experience. 2 questions. 1. Did you buy the exact same one that I linked?? What does the brand say? 2. Was your 4x6 still wet?? Pressure treated lumber is often sold still wet. Wet wood swells, which would make it harder to slip into the hole. You can set it in the sun for a few days to dry it. Rotate it daily to get it evenly dried.

    I'm curious if the legs should be put in the ground? It did not lift off the ground while swinging?

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The posts are so heavy and widespread, we have never had it lift off the ground. These brackets are for 4x4 legs. I’ve seen a lot for just 2x4 legs. Those are definitely just for little kids swing sets. 👍

    So, the swing was too high, and you cut off the ends of all the legs to bring it closer to the ground? Why not just use a longer chain?

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep, that was the easiest and best solution, IMO. Replacing or extending the chain would have been an extra expense. And, the swing set looked unbalanced with that wide of a leg base. I was afraid too much stress was going to hit the middle of the legs, instead of carrying through to the ground.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. That longer version seemed less stable. And, I was worried that the center of the posts were getting too much pressure having the base so widespread. But, go for what you like. I can get a good swing with the dimensions I used. So, I can only vouch for mine. 👍
