This mission is the only one that made me feel bad. Because we've been given context in the form of Mihaly's backstory, I feel terrible everytime I shot down a target or whenever the enemy's radio coming in. They fought hard to restore their lost kingdom, but got defeated and robbed of their supplies because we need them to end the war. That's what made me feel bad. Because even if what we did is justified and we need those supplies more, their reason is just as noble and I admire it very much. "They can take our lives. The young will carry on.", "Don't give up, we will not lose our homeland again" these - these got me chills.
I felt worse for the soldiers on the ground more than I did for Mihaly. I don’t care if his passion is flying. The soldiers on the ground were fighting to protect their country. Mihaly just wanted to keep flying, but in turn, took the lives of many. I felt joy when the epilogue played and it was revealed he was too weak to fly any longer.
This mission is also the only ace combat mission that made me extremely sorry for the enemy ace squadron. In most if not all AC games, the ace squadron you're going up against are douchebags with egos larger than their head going all "Oh hoho, you're gonna go down Leader!" but Sol is a definite exception for it. You can see how human they are. Showing emotions, looking out for their bailed teammates, and just doing whatever they can to protect their own country. It's sad to play this mission without thinking hard on the aftermath from what your squadron did in order to survive.
In this mission, I’ve found that you don’t need to destroy any ground targets to actually progress, and all air enemy aircraft have their pilots eject.
If you want to feel extra bad, a number of non-TGT trucks and tanks are positioned defensively in front buildings that appear to be churches. It’s your choice not to engage them.
You're wrong. It was a non-critical area. The issue was is that he's taken a lot of non-critical hits to the point where they became critical and forced him to go in flames. Don't worry though, he was only testing Trigger.
The last time I ran this mission I got the kill shot at a low altitude towards the bottom of one his famous diving maneuvers. Needless to say I watch the plane explode on the terrain. A buddy was watching and was confused why Mihaly was still talking. I told him I broke the game lol

It would have worked so much better, if the player actually shot a missile, but the drone that got locked in used the helicopter as a cover.
Guys I just realized something Trigger did not shoot down the president Because in the list of destroyed targets, the former president was missing. How could he exclude such a valuable target, if he was the one to kill him? It would probably net him a nice 10k points.
Because the encounter with Mihaly is scripted, and you can’t shoot him down until the dialogue plays out, I’ve started just doing circles in midair at max speed to wait out the dialogue so I’m not wasting time and ammunition fighting a guy who the game makes dodge every missile. Never got hit once while doing circles. And it made me think, ‘Man, Eursea must have really terrible pilots if you’re considered their best, and not even you can land a missile, bullet, or even railgun shot on a pilot doing predictable circles…’
I first did this mission with an SU 30 with 4AGMs (the one that Sol 2 - 5 uses, not the one Archange uses) I often go back to this mission fighting Mihaly with just missiles, though this boss fight isn't so difficult with just missiles.

I've never played Ace Combat; only found the soundtrack and vibed to it. I only started watching the missions play on TH-cam today, and I came across this after 5 missions, including the ones with the Princess of Erusia. But the story writing and dialog makes you really feel the moral struggle here. Are the Player and his wingmen the good guys? It was sad. It had enough going on that it was fun to look at, but enough desperate measures that it was a train wreck you couldn't look away from. ... Then Archange popped up after mentions of "King". Me: Archange? I heard that song before... this is a boss, right? *music begins to crescendo and get more serious* Me: wait... that's MIHALY! Everything fell away from me, and I watched as the moral Grey was kept in, and all I'm watching is two starved wolves locked in an epic dogfight for survival. One watching his country die in his arms while the future spreads wings to leave him behind, and the other fighting to just keep his friends alive. Each opponent pushing their aircraft to its limits, both clawing at the walls to retain the advantage, it was both awe-inspiring and bewildering. I wanted it to stop, but I knew it could only end one way... And then Mihaly was shot down by Trigger. His last words, not even acknowledging his own contributions, but barely saying what needed to be said. My first and last look at Mihaly in the air left me with thoughts that would keep me up at night. Sorry I missed out... this is a damn good game. Damn powerful story.
Gotta love when you beat wll the sol squadron in mission 15 just for their plane to miracously have belkan witchcraft healing in mission 18 just for them to be destroyed (most of them to say the least)
Does anyone know if it’s possible to down three Sol fighters in this? I know four Sols appear, once you down two, Mihaly appears, and the game expects you to turn to your attention to him. I’ve tried pursuing the third Sol fighter, even after Mihaly appears. I know the game removes your ability to lock onto the last two with missiles and they flee. I’ve tried stabilizing behind them and using the gun, but I think it beefs up their HP, or just outright makes them invincible.
Nat as far as I know, I think Trigger has to be at an angle away from the tunnels before they spawn. I have managed to swing round as they take off but they don't show up as targets till they are already airborne.

And you might realize that while in training, Yellow 13 MATCHED mihaly... that's in training, so Yellow 13's prowess equaled Mihaly's at the beginning of his piloting experiences. He still had to finish training, which would make him even better. Beyond that, any war experience he gained would only serve to boost his capability as the top Erusian ace. The details of this can be found in the "Aces at War" book by the Project Aces team. Since Yellow 13 was equal to mihaly while Yellow 13 was training, and Mihaly had already had years and years of experience, then it makes logical sense that Yellow 13 only became better. Yellow squadron is the top Erusian squadron as well, further solidifying the argument (Found on the Ace Combat 04 website when it was up). Therefore, Yellow 13 >>> mihaly
@@Mobius118 Seeing as it was during training, instead of an actual dogfight, its somewhat difficult to tell if Mihaly was even going all out when Yellow 13 hit him. Plus, Mihaly was still improving constantly even as he got older, so in terms of skill, they're probably still fairly even (though I agree that 13 would probably be a bit better) but seeing as Mihaly had the X-02 at this point, he would probably win in an actual dogfight against 13 because of the technological advantage.
Watch out for his EML - the firing line shows on your radar. Remember you can't fully shoot him down til he's says he's going to test you. That and git gud

Mihaly has never killed me. Every single one of my deaths in this game came from styling too hard by flying close to the ground and crashing.

The remaining two members of Sol Squadron join you in the last two missions so that’s why you can’t shoot them down here
