100% agree. In my opinion this is the best game on PS5. It is on my list of personal fav games of all time. Also, the tower DLC is an absolutely brilliant add-on. It drives the gameplay to insane levels and will make you master the game so much that the main campaign will feel like kids stuff afterwards. Playing Returnal reminded me of the good old times when we played legendary games in the 80s.
I just got this for Christmas from my Son, bless his heart for using his christmas money on me. This game is very much up my alley. It is a tough rouge like experience that is rewarding as you slowly progress. The visuals and particle effects are awesome. Then the sound and controls are awesome. Then my Son played and liked it a lot... lol. He was like "this is exactly my type of game, dodge, shoot, dodge, jump, jump, die" lol
MIKE MF C!!!! Man returnal is absolutely one of the best games I've ever played. The story is so intense and creepy, the boss fights are crazy and epic. It's a down right tough game but the more you play it the more you will absolutely see yourself get better. Hope your doing well man Merry (late) Christmas and happy new year brother
@@LameDadRetroGamer Yooooooooo what up Mr! My son and I have really been enjoying this one. It almost reminds us of like Archvale or Dead Cells in 3d, the rouge like aspect is a wild twist but it was fun to see the progress. The goes from yep we got this to oh hell, nope we don't in a quick hurry. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year buddy!
Excellent review guys! I was on the fence about this for a while but you've convinced me that I have to play this. The visuals look absolutely incredible.
I agree with everything you said except two things. The game lags in the tower mode when things get hectic. And the game becomes easier the more you play. It took me 30 hours to beat the first boss. Now I can beat the whole game including every room and boss in a single run without dying. It’s a git gud game.
I still need to finish the tower. Pretty close to wrapping it up but I never noticed any lag. And agreed it's all about git gud. For me the hardest boss was the second and I'm with you after beating it a few times I can smash through the game as well. Thanks for watching!!!
Well if this doesn't make me want to play it... I don't know what will. You and GCG both did an excellent job showcasing this game and all the great things about it. Although I was very distracted by your Oklahoma jersey... I kept trying to guess the player... Adrian Peterson? Jason White? I don't think you'd have a newer player like Kyler Murray or Baker Mayfield... the combat looks super dope and chaotic... I know I'll get crushed when I eventually play it but if it's addicting like a Souls game I'll be able to slog through it. Also, thank you for not spoiling it. I will take full credit and assumed you didn't for me haha. Hopefully, this ends up being better than Immortals Feynx Rising... Scarlet Nexus (not a bad game) and The Riftbreaker..
I'd have to look at the jersey again to remember the player lol I think it's a really old school guy. Just hurry up and play it my guy I'll help you co-op it
First off, thanks for having me collab with you on this review! I had a blast playing the whole game in co-op with you,and seeing you grasp the mechanics here as we kept playing it. Great hearing your thoughts on Returnal here and agree 100%! Such a sublime experience that gets better every run. Loved how you showed the Ixion fight briefly…the boss that gave us the most difficult time 🤣. Awesome review here man!
Hi All, I’m from Indian & I finally got my PS5 last month & tried all the PS5 exclusives games but Retunal is one the best game I have played & I have completed the final boss yesterday it took 1 month after multiple attempts 😊 This is one of the best game I have played.
I haven't played Returnal, but it sounded cool in the descriptions and reviews, and you've given it some very high praise as well. Rockin' review and great collab with GC Galaxy!
I believe most people overlook or just don't care that much about audio in games but the audio in Returnal is God tier. I'm rocking the Audeze penrose and my God, does it sound phenomenal, that was the first thing that impresses me the most, the game is amazing, I don't understand how I slept so hard on it but I'm so glad I'm playing it now. Legend of a game.
My first playstation platinum trophy ever was Returnal. This is still my favorite game. Unique and unmatched immersive gaming experience. I hope Sony drops it in game pass so many more players can enjoy it
Not the difficulty that put me of this but the time investment just like Death Stranding initially. And also the feeling of random nature of it. I do want to give this a shot but listed for next year when I can get it for cheap. Great coverage m8
Completely understand brother. I know you always play games on easy mode! Jk . The lag may kill us but I would be down to try and co-op if you ever wanted to.
Agree on 95% of what you said about the game. It is a masterpiece, no doubt about it, but I wouldn't give a 10/10. I think the whole "rogue-like" it's just an excuse for lack of content to prolong the game duration and justify the price tag. Keep in mind , Housemarque was a studio that made mobile games and clearly did not have the resources to deal with triple A game duration. Let's be honest: If the game didn't have a SINGLE checkpoint (right between ACT 1 and ACT 2) , it could be finished in 5-6 hours from a regular player. I noticed some repetitions in level design, identical geometry just different textures and colors. For example I remember well the geometry of a containment room from first biome is repeated in a biome from ACT 2. There are probably more like that one. The problem with repeated runs is the loot. I had no problem with battle because the mechanics are perfect and the gameplay is so addictive. But the looting part got OLD very quickly. Leave the whole "rogue like " BS out and you have a PERFECT game.
Thanks for watching! I was really engrossed in the and the story was something that is simply amazing. I can agree the constant looting was tough but it did add more replay value and made it similar to and older run and gun shooter
I bought it on release day on PS5 and now PC. If you have PC that can run it, the difference in graphical fidelity is astounding. Using the Mouse and Keyboard works awesome. 1 thing massively pissed me off, no save and quit feature on release for ps5, and took almost a year to patch in. The pc port has an audio setting called Ray Traced audio. i will have to try it out.
Platinum-ed the game, 100%-ed the tower, and I still play it at least once a week. I love this game! It's definitely one of my top 20 games of all time.
Awesome review! I didn't know that Marcello played anything else than GC (too easy to make that joke lol)! I have no intention to play that game as it looks way too rage inducing for me... but again your review is so good and convincing that maybe 1 day, I will be tempted to play it coop if I ever get it! But no way will I ever play solo though! I don't want my neighbors to call the cops on me for yelling at my TV lol! One thing for sure is that it looks absolutely stunning! Great video and keep up the good work!
It can be rage inducing but I will say I never raged like I did with a souls game but the story here is so unique and epic and after beating this game three times it's still hard to fully understand it. The story for me is still one that I enjoy thinking about. I highly recommend it and definitely recommend co-op just to help you get a feel for it and get through it if you do decide to pick up
Thanks for the review and I'm totally ok with you. I basically had the same experience. I was expecting nothing special from the game. I started it and it didn't take me by my hand, and in a rough way. Arriving to the second biome was just horrible because the game doesn't give you any gift or confort. So I stopped it for one or two months. When I finally got into it, oh my man! I have started to understand the mechanics, the risk and reward decisions, and the fact that I had to dedicate playing to get better. The game just asked me to accept to go out of my confort zone. I beat the game more than 10 times and I can't stop playing the tower of sysiphus again and again and again. It just become one of my prefered game ever and I recommend people to play it and to just being ok about the frustration of death and cycle in the game.
It's so worth it. It's hard and I mean really hard but it's the best ps5 game and honestly one of the best games I've played in a long time. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoy returnal
Great co-op review from you and GCG. I have heard before that this is the best game on the console. I think a quality co-op campaign mode means a lot now a days in a game. Most folks who aren’t old fuddyduds like me play online a lot and it only makes sense. Game looks fantastic! Looks like his review is getting some great views too. Congrats man! 🤙🏻
Thanks man yea I wasn't expecting it to be as successful as it's been. I really miss old couch co-op games. The online portion does help just gotta stay away from the call of duties and Fortnites. I wish we could get like a remastered original contra with just updated graphics online with same gameplay.
I was excited for this game and got it at release, but I didn’t realize how hard it was. I personally feel I’m getting too old for those die a hundred times to take a step toward type games.
Will be experiencing this for the first time on PC next week, do I really need to get PS5 controller for this? I was planning to either play with mouse and keyboard or xbox one controller.
No I don't think so. I will say you will be missing out on the experience with the ps5 controller features but I am not sure if pc can replicate that. I really hope you enjoy it. It's absolutely phenomenal
What a wicked review LD and GCG. I have not heard of this game until this review. I am most curious on the controls, does it play like a twin stick shooter during battles? If so then I am 100% sold. I do appreciate each of your views and will look for a sale or used on this, I am worried about the difficulty. Hats off guys!!!!!
The difficulty I would say never really spikes so it's difficult from the very beginning but with some determination you will definitely get better. This game is all about risk and reward. I have see. A few eBay sellers selling this for about $30. Thanks dude I appreciate that. Hope your well brother
Looks pretty solid! Sort of has a Nier Meets Deadspace feel to it. Absolutely loving the environments and atmospheres! Down the road when I decide to grab a PS5 I’ll be sure to add this to the library. Great work Lonestar! You and Marcello convinced me lol Stay awesome brother! Happy Halloween! 🤘🎃
While everything positive you said is correct, my experience was different. The game was too brutal for me. I found myself too frustrated to want to continue playing. 30 hours was enough to toss it into the trade box.
This is the one PS5 game I've bounced off. I mean, it looks and plays great, it feels brilliant to move around and control and the shooting is really satisfying. I just... having to replay 'long' areas to get to the boss, rebuilding your powers and abilities every time was draining. I liked it, but I didn't like it enough to outlive my patience. Got to the boss of the desert area 4 times and just no. I don't want to replay that bit a fifth irritating time. I can do it, I have done it several times, but it's not fun its just meh. It takes too long to build your powers back up - once you have a good run going it feels great but it takes maybe 20 minutes to get back into that groove. I may pick up again one day but there's other great stuff to check out first. Maybe Co-Op would be the way to go as it does sound like that might help
I will tell you the second boss is by far the hardest in the entire game. By far. Also once you get past him I felt like the biomes and runs got a little bit easier. I completely understand that it can be taxing. I would highly encourage you to pick it up and try out co-op. That's what really changed it for me and after beating co-op I was really able to fly through runs and that 20 minutes went down to maybe 10? But thanks for watching brother I appreciate it.
Great review man You both did a fantastic job on this. One of my friends also let me play a little bit of it during share play One of the few times my internet didn't totally screw the pooch and mess up on me so I could enjoy it. And I loved the 30 or so minutes I had tinkering around with it. If and when I ever get a PS5 it's definitely going to be one of the titles that I put in first to experience. It's nice They added a bunch of new features to it especially the co-op in the challenge Tower. Keep up the great work on the channel bro sending love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's a brutal game but playing with a decent co-op player will make all the difference. This has a absolutely amazing story that even now I love thinking about. Gp you always make me want to play a rpg lol. I still need to restart FF3 or 6 or whatever it's called
