I think the point of economics should be considered as well. There so many talented American actors of color that can be employed to close the wealth opportunity gap that has left us at a disadvantage historically to present.

Black Americans played British roles long before british actors played american roles
I'm a black man, born and raised in the deep South in the ghetto. Yes, there are ghettos in the south. Trust me when I say, due to racism and poverty, it was indeed 3rd world. Hollywood selects these foreign black actors due to two reasons--their hatred toward black Americans historically and the willingness of these foreign blacks to kiss the ring and play along with the status quo, which to have white people in charge and blacks getting crumbs they give them. So in other words, it's nothing more than version of white supremacy.

99% of the time I can tell when a British actor is playing an African-American. Why? Because they are not us. End of story.

Clarifying question since when is it a requirement that actors have to look exactly like the people they're portraying? Will Smith didn't look exactly like Muhammad Ali, Larenz Tate- Frankie Lymon, Chadwick- Jackie Robinson/Thurgood Marshall, Beyonce-Etta James, Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishburne, Terrance Howard-Nelson Mandela, Jennifer Hudson-Winnie Mandela, Laurence Fishburne- Ike Turner, Angela Bassett- Tina Turner. None of these actors were exact matches.
The shear number of British actors being handed roles is suspect. Its being done with purpose.

The African American experience is spiritual, the pain the joy of generations who endured the harshest brutality in recent history to come out shining. It does seem like a slight affront to discount that experience by replacing even the icons with one's who might not share that.
Black people the world over have suffered. The Congo, in Kenya and the Mau, Mau Slavery in Brazil wasn't abolished until 1888 and every Latin /South American nation was a slave nation.

Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishburne, Terrence Howard have all played Nelson Mandela in projects. It doesn't matter if these project are in the United States if there is an expectation that Black Americans play Black Americans then the same effort should made in casting a South African actor as Nelson Mandela, he is from South Africa not South Carolina. What's good for the goose is good for the gander and just because you are Black American doesn't mean your going to play another Black American authentically. I don't think Anthony Mackie did a good job play Tupac in the movie Notorious and Lorenz Tate did not embody Frankie Lymon in Why Do Fools Fall in Love in my opinion.
