'World War One: 1916' covers the great battles of Verdun and the Somme on the Western Front, as well as Russia's Brusilov Offensive on the Eastern Front. In the Middle East, British forces surrender at Kut, while the Arab Revolt begins in the Hejaz. But unbeknownst to Arab leaders, the British and French have secretly agreed to carve up the Middle East after the war in the secret Sykes-Picot Agreement. The war's only great naval battle is fought at Jutland, while the Italians face crisis after the surprise Austro-Hungarian attack at Asiago. In the Balkans, Romania joins the war on the Allied side, but is soon overrun by the Central Powers.
CORRECTION: 13.10 - Karl was the great-nephew, not the son, of Emperor Franz Josef I.

Always awesome and I hate nitpicking but HMS Hampshire is show sinking
of Shetland instead of Orkney still awesome though.
Battle of Aisne.
Greek history next please.
This truly is *"Epic History"* Europe, 1916. Could spend an entire Year discussing just the lead up to Verdun and still not do it justice.
Seems this year won't be boring for us then. Splendid.
+The Great War Indy please feature this channel on one of your episodes ! the both of you are very good channel by the way.
Chico Athalla We will think of something.
Hurrah
@@TheGreatWar now there are many history channels like Armchair Historain, history house productions, history marche and so on. We need to make a alliance to defeat TH-cam from demonitizing

Watch over simplified it's good too
First of all, I want to say THANK YOU for this great channel! It's so hard to find channel that talk about history like this!
I'm Indonesian and because of something, we didn't learn about WW1 so much and I'm really grateful that I found your channel and give me a lot of useful information
And I hope in the future, you could make video about wars that happen not only in Europe, but also in Asia, Africa, etc.
But still, whatever you do, I really thanks to your great efforts!
Thank you! Very pleased to hear you found the videos helpful.
What was that thing?
😍😍😍
Well, your English is really great, and English is a very vast medium of knowledge (rich in books, magasine, videos, films, the internet, and so); so you learn vertually anything you want through it...
Same in india we dont hear much about WW1 although our nation has a long history with europeans.
@@ritaDas-xl4kz Which is sad, as many of your countrymen fought and died in the war.
@@ritaDas-xl4kz it's crazy to think the indians fought against the british for freedom just 70 years before the great war and now fight along the british
YES NEW EPISODE
you? here? lol
+Them True Um yes
+Jake Mapping
+Jake Mapping i saw you reacting in almost every history video on the internet
+dutchmoviestudio hey hoe gaat het eerste wereldoorlog is wel leuk
Verdun: "Ils ne passeront pas!" (They shall not pass) ... guess who was a ww1 soldier on the british side? Tolkien...
Although confusingly Tolkien never wrote ‘You shall not pass’, he instead had Gandalf say ‘You cannot pass’
You know when you are on TH-cam then find a super gold channel and just wonder why it isn't popular . This is a great video
Thank you! Hopefully word will spread..
As a East European Slav, Serbian to be precise, I want to congratulate the narrator for being able to almost flawlessy pronounce Serbian, or Polish for that matter, names and places.
Fantastic work these videos. Last I learned about WW1 were dusty books at school back in the 80's never knew how vast and shocking the amount of casualties really were. Fascinating videos and excellently made. Wasn't expecting to Subscribe but you got me! Keep up the good work.
Thanks you! Very encouraging to hear.
Epic History TV what's the music
good work sir
This video and Waterloo are the best you've done yet. Totally worth it being a Patreon guys!
YES I LOVE THESE YOU GUYS ARE AWSOME!
Very informative, and brilliant music.
Super content, one of the best historical content available on youtube. Much thanks!
Small point I'd like to discuss: von Falkenhayn's plan to "bleed France white" at Verdun was actually an afterthought explanation that he gave when asked why the breakthrough he promised failed to materialize. Archives show he really wished to take the town, hoping the loss of this strategic point (key point of the trailroad traffic, if I remember correctly) would lead to the collapse of the western front.
This is a fantastic series! I can't believe this channel isn't more popular
I have been looking for this kind of history video my whole life. thank you so much. I'll be sure to share to all my friends and family
Great to hear, thank you!
These videos are providing me with a good history education, the kind I didn't recieve at school at all! I'd like to echo your words, these videos are fantastic!
Exactly ^^^
I love the quality of these videos. If you ever try something outside of military history, I'd be really excited to see it.

Thanks Nikolay!
Love this, incredible real footage. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
The fact that this is over 100 years ago just hit me like a truck...
crazy isn't it? Until the early 2000s there were still veterans of this tragic conflict.
This channel is one of the best things on youtube, amazing job, respect.
Keep em comin'! These will work a treat in schools one the series is done! 👍

+Thomas Baxter Thanks Thomas.
The music is so cool ! And the voice acting / narrative EPIC !!!!!
You deserve many more views man great video!
Karl was not the son of Franz Joseph. He was his nephew.
Not even his nephew, he was Franz Ferdinand's nephew, who, in turn was the nephew of Franz Josef.
I wonder why Franz Ferdinand's son wasn't next in line, but instead his nephew, the son of his brother Otto, Karl (Charles) became Emperor. Is there more to all this than history will allow us to know?

My Great-Great Uncle was at the Battle Somme and fought in the war. He survived!

Another masterpiece from Epic History, thanks guys! :)
My great Grandfather on my German side fought in this war. He got shot in the torso but thankfully survived. Very interesting video as always.
+χρονης κ. Damn yeah thats lucky. My Grandfather on my German side was in the Wehrmacht navy and also was wounded. It was crazy in both WWs, the chances of not getting hit at some point were really slim.
it's been 8 years, but still the best ww1 video I have ever seen
Keep it going. this is helping me in my history class
This is absolutely amazing
Very well explained. Nice graphic representations. Full of information. And I have to say the vocal is too good. Great work guys. CARRY ON!

Me: How many battles of the Isonzo Rivers are there?
Italy: *Yes*
How is this channel not famous?! I guess people just don't like history huh.
I absolutely love your Vids guys
Honestly amazing!
I just found out about your channel. Great work. Very useful and interactive. Binge watching all your videos
Great to hear, thanks Marzhan!

"Those who start wars should be the ones to fight them" -Me.
I LOVED IT... It was beyond awesome... Thanks for making such an amazing n interesting '' history'' video
Great to hear, thank you!
I'm French and ... Just thk very much for that ! For this work . i'm proud of my history and for story, french are realy "proud" for Verdun
ok
Great mythical victory and become symbolic for the French.
This channel is amazing and the videos are very well done.
That said, I just wanted to point out a small error I've noticed concerning the physical map. The Aral Sea ( visible at 02:38 ) is shown as it was in the 2010s while in the 1910s its size was way bigger.
I know this kind of information is in uninfluential to the main topic of the video, but for the sake of truth I leave this comment here. Keep up with the good work guys!
Your gay bro
Your videos are great!
The presentation and combination of background music 🎧 is too good
Awesome video! 😊
after this series is completed you guys should do the American Civil War
+HI BILLY MAYS HERE
I agree. It is something rarely brought up here in europea and it could be very interesting. I hope they will continue the russian history series too.
EwEs2 Yeah i believe you are right, many europeans seem to be intrigued by the American Civil War for some reason
+HI BILLY MAYS HERE Where did we hear that before?
No thanks. Amerikan history in general is plain boring. They should do something in Europe or Asia
+illyrian eagle Or World War 2!
I really like this channel
I like the way our series puts the timeline together. It gives the listener a better sense of the zeitgeist.
good that its come,i enjoy it,big like
I love you to easy to understand and simple
I just saw a battlefield 1 ad on a ww1 video how awesome is that!
Fabulous explanation
