Evasion is a form of tanking. Ignoring that, Doom also gets overhealth fairly consistently, has hard CC on a faster cooldown, and has damage mitigation. Doom can tank. Guarantee a good Doom will soak more damage and survive longer than a Hazard player will, while disrupting the enemy team and getting picks. Hazard just gets more value with less effort while showing said value in more obvious ways via obligatory tank wall and being near the team.
Honestly i wouldnt say hes that much less mobile. You can go a long ways without ever touching the ground as this character especially if you use stall spots
They nailed the fun aspect for sure. One thing i appreciate is that at least the mirror match up isnt boring like it was for mauga. To me thats a success, there are so many different ways to express skill with this hero and as a tabk main its refreshing
I keep hearing people say his hp needs a nerf, but he has no health regen or shield gain. He's very punishable if he dives too deep without his supports.
Learning his combos, his wall lineups, and landing his shots is gonna make him a monster at high skill lvls. And 80% damage reduction on command is pretty wild, timing that properly is probably gonna be huge
I'm also happy that they didn't fall into the trap of "let's design a new character that counters the current meta characters/strategies". This character definitely has a place, having g dive elements, but still being brawly enough that he doesn't suffer the con for constantly being away from his team. There are some interesting g combo ideas we haven't really seen, like putting a wall behind someone, booping them into it, and having them bounce back for a powerful shotgun shot.
from my experience he struggles pretty hard into dva, she can eat his wall and force his jumps and thenelt him down quickly, I also found that sigma can handle him pretty well with good rock timing and wall usage. overall an amazing character though

It feels like a jack of all trades master of none type hero. He lacks range with not enough horizontal mobility, he has less damage than junker queen, less tankiness than mauga or orisa. Like I genuinely dont see what he is supposed to do against orisa or mauga other than run away. I feel like dorado might be his best map actually. I think his highground superiority is his strong suit where he can dive easily from height, ult from height, and wall climb is insane on maps like dorado.

The fact that he has a dash (like Genji) and the ability to wall climb (like Genji) it's extremely concerning (I'm a Genji main). LMFAO but actually he looks like a possible dive tank with a LOT of crowd control... which is scary. It makes me feel like JQ is almost becoming obsolescent

@callumanderson6373 On one hand absolutely agree some of my favorite heroes are hyper mobile like Lucio or Juno who is my favorite time playing a new Overwatch hero since August of 2016 maybe ever, I love her kit so much. Hyper mobile games like Splatoon 1 or Titanfall 2 are some of my all time favorites. On the other hand I feel like the game plays better with some variety occasionally and some slow heroes sometimes too like Zen and think more heroes with no extra movement like Zen should be added. I really adored and loved replaying slow Overwatch Classic recently reliving the old days of more casual fun, strategy, and heavier fps focus.
Very interesting, seems like he might be a bit much in higher tiers of play rn. Lifeweaver and Ana seem like the ideal supports against him. The biggest thing right now is it seems like you can get away with whatever you want, you only die if you mess up. Might need a few more counterplay options.

I have been a die hard fan since the first one but I just slowly lost interest in playing because I wasn’t getting that satisfying adrenaline rush that I got when clearing house with my other tank. There's a similar effect in Destiny 2 called "Suspend" on the Strand subclass. After the nightmare that was Stasis' launch (the subclass that freezes ppl like OG Mei), they made "Suspend" so that there's at least *some* chance to fight back for whoever is affected. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time Overwatch has gotten a true snare effect outside of *maybe* Cassidy's current nade (but that slows while Hazard's ult just anchors ppl).

He's such a prime example of why we need 6v6 back. This guy on his own is gonna struggle as a solo tank and will probably play like one-shot junkrat in the tank role or some sort of dive roadhog Add another tank into the mix and suddenly this guy can cycle engages, play flanks, peel for his team, combo off the ult and rock and seems like a cool option Also can we just rework Genji deflect at this point? the amount of things that just outright bypass his deflect is getting stupid and it makes learning how to play him feel really unrewarding when your defensive cooldown doesn't do anything against what feels like half the roster at this stage

i played ball the first time in comp a few hrs ago and went 60 - 8 in a 24 min match after watching a ball techs guide video lmfao, also when hazard drops im abusing tf out of how powerful he prob will end up being on release in comp.

Vortex usage will probably matter a lot here and there's probably a decent bit of room for Haz to use the brick to space out rams punches and his block to deny punch damage while whittling armour He seems cool in the sense that he's mostly a dive tank but can brawl reasonably well compared to other dive tanks, kinda like how Ramattra is a poke tank that can switch to brawl when he needs to and I think his matchups into most other tanks seems pretty even

heres a list of what counters it that i know of symm can tp out of it + it removes the root effect, her wall blocks it and is quite easy to time, any shields aimed towards the sky , kiri suzu (before the cc hit, easy to do), genji deflect, sigma succ , lw petal and lifegrip and hide behind his tree, mei can also put her wall and hide behind which blocks the cc entirely, echo when she ults, dva matrix, zarya bubble (does NOT cleanse)
Guarantee I'm not playing him ideally but so far he's super weak, mostly because nothing in his kit does much damage. He feels like he's supposed to be a Brawl Tank (definitely not poke and his mobility isn't great so I think he'd be bottom of the dive heroes), but I can't kill Orisa or Rein and Mauga massively out-damages him. I'm also a casual player so I could just be stinking against GMs all evening...

For me the primary being another shotgun adds to the mediocre feeling, we could have gotten some cool new spikey energy canon thing or launcher, anything but another shotgun, which just feels like a slightly juice doom shotgun

To say they are recycled is a bit disingenuous. In a way. Everything is recycled. It’s how the combine and remix the abilities that matters. And here they’ve done a really good job. Even an ability that’s exactly same can function completely different on a new hero. Even take his wall. Not only does it do damage and boop. But you can literally attach it to any surface. Allowing you to create your own ledges and jump to them for more dynamic positions. Something you could never do with, Mei, Hanzo, or doom.
In any hero/kit game, there will be crossover, especially when the roster gets large. The difference is that every "copied" ability is different enough. It's also hard for them to add "new" stuff. OW has a much more simplified style than other games, and that's what makes it good. Also, because they have to accommodate for old gen tech, they're not really able to experiment with innovation (which is why I think it's time they stop supporting older platforms.)

Reaper has been in desperate need of a ground up rework since before ow2 released, its insane to me that sombra got reworked before him when sombra had an actual place in the game beyond being a way for people who suck at torb and junkrat to counter tanks

He has 75% damage reduction for over 3 seconds. he is far too tanky

heres a list of what counters it that i know of
symm can tp out of it + it removes the root effect, her wall blocks it and is quite easy to time, any shields aimed towards the sky , kiri suzu (before the cc hit, easy to do), genji deflect, sigma succ , lw petal and lifegrip and hide behind his tree, mei can also put her wall and hide behind which blocks the cc entirely, echo when she ults, dva matrix, zarya bubble (does NOT cleanse)
Guarantee I'm not playing him ideally but so far he's super weak, mostly because nothing in his kit does much damage. He feels like he's supposed to be a Brawl Tank (definitely not poke and his mobility isn't great so I think he'd be bottom of the dive heroes), but I can't kill Orisa or Rein and Mauga massively out-damages him.
I'm also a casual player so I could just be stinking against GMs all evening...

im not sure why but this new tank isnt feeling that good, im not sure why it just feels meh i dont really feel like id choose him over any other hero
For me the primary being another shotgun adds to the mediocre feeling, we could have gotten some cool new spikey energy canon thing or launcher, anything but another shotgun, which just feels like a slightly juice doom shotgun

always the same things now: wall climb, big jumps, hold right click to guard, and now they cloned mei's wall but it pushes you
also that ult is hilarious, it essentially serves the same function as rein's, goes through walls and is x2 bigger, very cool!!
To say they are recycled is a bit disingenuous. In a way. Everything is recycled. It’s how the combine and remix the abilities that matters. And here they’ve done a really good job.
Even an ability that’s exactly same can function completely different on a new hero.
Even take his wall. Not only does it do damage and boop. But you can literally attach it to any surface. Allowing you to create your own ledges and jump to them for more dynamic positions. Something you could never do with, Mei, Hanzo, or doom.
In any hero/kit game, there will be crossover, especially when the roster gets large.
The difference is that every "copied" ability is different enough.
It's also hard for them to add "new" stuff. OW has a much more simplified style than other games, and that's what makes it good. Also, because they have to accommodate for old gen tech, they're not really able to experiment with innovation (which is why I think it's time they stop supporting older platforms.)
Braindead opinion tbh. As far as rein ult with 2x the range, do you see how slow it is? You would have to have the reflex’s of a blind and deaf monkey to not get out of the way, which considering the comment, might be the case. Best of luck!

Good ideas are frequently derivative and bad ideas are very often entirely unique and original
his gun is about 2/3rds as strong as reaper, but he has several abilities for confirming kills, unlike reaper. he also has a 'i don't want to be here anymore' ability (which can also confirm a kill AND boop), wall climb, a doomfist block which can confirm several squishies simultaneously, and a 'i don't like you guys, leave me alone' ability (which can also confirm a kill AND boop off maps).
can we please now talk about giving reaper a right click which lets him confirm a kill? please? pretty please??
Reaper has been in desperate need of a ground up rework since before ow2 released, its insane to me that sombra got reworked before him when sombra had an actual place in the game beyond being a way for people who suck at torb and junkrat to counter tanks
