    It’s so nice how thoughtful you are of your horses, they are so well looked after! It’s great to have other people know the horses - and the horses them - just like you explained. 👍 More than 20 years back when I was working at a stable to earn riding lessons we had to wash the hay for some horses due to allergies. Steaming is of course much more efficient and easier! I am always glad to see Annie so healthy and happy 😊

    Hey Jesse! Just a warning, I also have a hay gain and the horses LOVED it! I got it for my pony who has inflammatory airway disease and it helped so much. However... It has the same effect as steaming vegetables.. Which means the sugars are much more digestible. If you have a horse that's over weight or has IR or cushings disease it will make their levels sky rocket.. That's what happened to my pony so I had to stop using it.. Maybe it would be fine if you knew you had a very low sugar/starch hay to begin with, but it makes any hay sooo much richer to them which is why they like it so much!

      Hi, with Jesse's permission, I wanted to let you know that research demonstrates Haygain steaming actually decreases the water soluble carbohydrates. (aka sugars) in hay. The amount of decrease varies based on a number of factors. Studies have shown decreases from 2.3 to 18.3 percent. Here's a link to a study demonstrating the 18.3 decrease in WSC. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1144/4268/files/soaking-steaming_JEVS.pdf?18097781231969196457. There are a ton of variables in the WSC content of hay. It's ideal to test hay before and after any treatment to know if they are being reduced enough to meet your vet's recommendation. It sounds like you have found the right approach for your pony and that is great!

    What a great idea - to steam the hay, and lovely to see how each one greets you in the morning...esp cute to still see Anteras with his ears back making a dive for you!

    • @nozee77
      @nozee77 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only thing one has to take into consideration is: some vitamins and minerals will not survive the heat of steaming, so you'll need to supplement them another way. It's probably best to get the steamed hay analysed, so you know exactly what is still in there and what has to be supplemented.

    I am so impressed with all that you are doing for your horses, you are very thoughtful and go above and beyond, taking care of them! You are living my dream and I envy you young man, I am an old Lady that grew up in Germany but been living for decades in the US, I have loved horses as far back as I can remember and used to spend a lot of time with them in Germany when I was young, I miss those days and I miss the scent of horses, those velvety soft noses and just being around them, hearing their nickers and neighs. Horses are magical to me me, they are majestic creatures and I will forever love them! You are such a nice young man and the love you have for your horses really shows! Thank you so much for sharing your devotion towards those marvelous creatures and your morning routine with us, it seems to be a lot of work, which you however enjoy!! 😊👍🐴

      American rural properties in general are SO much messier than what I’ve seen in the Netherlands countryside. It’s pretty much the norm for American rural properties to have dilapidated buildings and piles of trash and rusting junk. That’s incredibly rare in the Dutch rural setting.

    The hole in your field looks exactly like a fox hole on our current property. I was surprised it was in the open as we always found them in brush at our former property. I think they see your chickens as a food source, here they go after rabbits. As you already filled in that hole, you should keep an eye open for new digging elsewhere. Fox breed in winter and have kits in early spring; they want a warm, dry place for their babies and a nearby food source. Great morning video! It is so relaxing to hear you explain the process. ❤

    • @englishrose5732
      @englishrose5732 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've seen fox holes at the edge of our wooded area under the shrubby brush and more recently in an open area. I suppose they didn't feel their babies would be threatened. In this case, the fox is not threatened by the horses in the field, and they would be close to the chickens.

    I love seeing how much you care about your horses and I love knowing that a lot of the stuff you do to help is stuff I do with my 2 as well. I wish I could afford a haygain because both my boys have asthma and it can get quite bad with just the slightest bit of dust. They are out most of the day to help them breath better and we soak their evening hay. All our stables are cleaned and swept before they come in so the dust settles.

    Hey, I love these moments of calm in the stable, it's satisfying to have a nice clean boxing with a good ration of hay waiting for the horse while he is quietly in the meadow. I also use wood pellets but I mix them with flax, I find the result correct, the smell of ammonia is reduced and it’s clean longer. I tried Agrobs because my horse have allergies because of a lot of cereals, then now I give him Vitafiber from Lambey (I’m french lol). Lambey is a really good brand with a wide range of products, I am very demanding on quality and I find that they have a fairly wide range with well-studied products on horses. I also recommend the cures of the ESC brand, it's magic! My horse also has a sensitivity to the caecum, he regularly had diarrhoea, I have tried many different brands of feed and I can see that the Vitafiber has done him a lot of good. ok now I'm going to stop telling my life lol but if this comment could be useful for someone then I'm happy. Maybe one day you'll want to try. Have a good day 😊

    It's really important for animals just like humans to have routines! At a certain point growing up we just had 5 horses and we had a Stud named "Raunchy" who was an extremely clever little "Hoodlum"!LOL. Every morning he would open his own stall and then go to all the other stalls and open their doors and we had an old enamel tub in the barn for water and he would turn the handle and over flow the tub! Until we finally found a latch he wasn't able to figure out on the tack and feed rooms he would snoop and look for sugar cubes and try and open the feed bins? He did this daily and you knew if he wasn't feeling well b/c when you opened the barn doors everyone was still where they were supposed to be? The funny thing was a couple of the Horses didn't ever come out of their stall, I'm guessing they were smart enough to want to wait for their breakfast first?.

    Busy morning routine. I think the steaming is nice and probably a necessity when you use round bales, square bales are more common here in the states for stabled horses. I think here we are more likely to clean stalls while the horses are in but our barns are usually airier with center aisles though it easier when they are not there. Nice video to watch though.

    Good day Jesse
    Always a pleasure to watch your video.
    Thinking the hay gain is a game changer.
    We had steamers in years past but had to control portion size to avoid spoilage. Very smart to pull day before out and inspect rotation to top.
    The bedding you use that swells up, is it a wood chip?
    Straw creates dust in small spaces and now far more expensive or unavailable with poor harvest.
    The horses look great!

      @Belinda Barham they do have a fab relationship and I'm sure Matt says things to get a reaction from Jesse and the followers on here. 😆

    We love your whole setup, it's a perfect blend of beauty and functionality. I've used the pellet bedding too, but every brand I've tried (in the USA) has horrible dust issues. Whatever you have looks far superior. We switched to utilizing pellets (not pre-soaked) in a thin layer under deep straw bedding and it's been great. If you ever need a farm manager/property manager my wife and I would relocate in a heartbeat!
