- India’s greatest Architect. That was the title given to Charles Correa when he was alive. In a career spanning 5 decades, he designed over a 100 buildings, with a design style that spoke to and of the people. But perhaps his biggest contribution to society at large is a generation of architects that he inspired, teaching them what Modernism could mean for India. But the legacy of this man goes much beyond just architecture. So today lets uncover his story, Welcome to Blessedarch and today on this channel we are looking at the life and designs of Charles Correa.
The Drawing Board : bit.ly/3C13pID
The Drawing Board is an initiative by Rohan Builders & Mindspace Architects. It is an annual competition for undergraduate students ,and fresh graduates of 2022, and this year, the subject is about designing a memorial for Charles Correa. Its completely FREE to participate. I will be looking forward to seeing some amazing designs.

I have a Charles Correa story. Indore is my hometown. In 2008 I went to Bhopal for a trip. I visited Bharat Bhavan. That building moved me from inside. Something happened. After a brief conversation with a person I got to know that this building was built by an architecture called Charles Correa. After that I read everything about him. Then I read whatever he wrote. I was falling in love with architecture.
Because I was a PCB student and by the time I realised this I was already 22, so I couldn't pursue this field. But I understood one thing that architecture is one art that nobody appreciates it like other fine arts. It's so beautiful and complex. It's the most important art form because we live inside it.
Our social life depends on it and it has the ability to change how we live, how we think and how we behave. Since that day till now I read about architecture as a subject. And I am eternally thankful to Charles Correo for that.
lovely!!
He was not only India's greatest architect; rather I would say he belongs to the league of great masters of world architecture. Love from Bangldesh.
For sure
I recieved the news of Charles's death on my class group while we were drinking at JS hall hostel, Churchgate which was designed by him. I was in 5th yr at the time.
we actually paid a tribute to him and spent sometime roaming around and adoring what he did with the design of that hostel.
This video gives me sense of nostalgia, when I visited few of the Charles Correa buildings such as Sabarmati Ashram, Jawahar Kala Kendra, kanchanjunga apartment. I also felt that his architecture is The Perfect Blend of ancient and modern architecture which goes hand in hand to give an amalgamate output. And the highlighted part of his buildings are mostly the open to Sky spaces. His buildings are amazing 🏩and he is a legend Architect 👏 🙏🏻💐❤️
GREAT VIDEO BLESSED ARCH 😇

I had been to a hotel in the Andamans in 1984...for my honymoon...The Bay Island Hotel....it gave such immense pleasure to be around the hotel...particularly their outdoor eating area...it seemed to be over the ocean...then I came to know of this legend
Fantastic Video thank you.

Your voice is so calming 😅
He was a genius 🙏🙂
For sure
Barring a few projects most of his projects are in shambles it’s a shame that we don’t know how to Respect architecture in India
Yeah I dont think people always appreciated the value that he brought to his spaces.
He has used vastshastra techniques to divide the area in 9 parts and the kund is inspired from temple architectures of step well. Looking for something orignal.
@10:00 it should be Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics not Astrology.
The hardest thought for me is that he never got the Pritzker that he truely deserved.
Very true, the man truly deserved it
please make video on zaha hadid
Already done. Its a two part documentary you can find on my channel
I was wondering what is your perspective about Architect Jeffry Bawa.
I really love his work. Will make something on him soon
@@blessedarch please do a complete documentary on Geoffrey Bawa
🤍
Now that’s a real architect, non of that artsy fartsy stuff
Why he sounds like India in pixels
He is the reason india doesn't have that much skyscraper
India is not looked lke a developed country
Not good architecture in my opinion
