Deadliest Journeys - Afghanistan: The Wakhan Passage

- Situated in the extreme north-west of Afghanistan, the Wakhan corridor is bordered by the Hindou Kouch mountains and peaks at almost 5000 metres high. The only road that cuts through the corridor is almost inaccessible, crossing the mountainside, often buried by metres of snow.

The little boys face when he got those red boots melted my heart. They have so little ,but at the same time seem very happy. Wealthy in other ways.
Emotional comments 🥰 well sad
Felt like that. The people are happy despite the difficulties. Wish them health and better furture
She's a sweet little girl.
Well, if you listen to what some of the people say in the documentary, they aren't happy at all with their tough life. I'm sure a lot of them would love to have a paved road that would allow for supply trucks to come in more frequently at the very least.
I seen these people in this region my heart melted, they had so little or nothing. Homeless in the US, I gave them some good clothes, can of foods they’re refused to take, they only want cash 💰.
Beautiful Afghanistan 🇦🇫 respect from Mongolia 🇲🇳
Cheers back to you!
Phenomenal. Absolutely astounding! The scenery combined with the isolation . And demonstrating how different their world is from… people with internet. Thank you for posting this.

Man that would be a tough life. Have to admire the strength and will of those people. Incredible.
Great piece of film. No fluff or repeated shots of the journalist themselves or dreadful music. So incredibly rare in the "look at me" TH-cam video culture. I am soon to travel through Afghanistan and I'm glad to have come across this video to balance the negative ones here
Afghanistan is so beautiful. I wish the people would suffer no more.
They just need to change their culture and the problems will go
@@PibrochPonder Lmao, racist.
Their biggest problem is the US
this is just the best of humanity.... This is how it's supposed to go, despite the hardship. This is how we should treat each other.
Everytime l complain that things are not going well and life is tough i watch this video to remind what tough life looks like and that my problems are nothing compared to what these great people have to do to get by
Afghans are very hospitable and hard working people, thank you for such a beautiful video exploring reality of innocence people. ❤🙏🏼
Great video with outstanding photography. Despite the hard way of life, these people appear to be very hospitable, hard working and willing to help each other. The road needs to be improved to provide much needed access of goods and medication. This is a kind of place that I would love to visit - the scenery and the people. If only if there was peace in Afghanistan!

That's only because there were so many poteehtos in the doco
I visited Afghanistan before the war w America and before their war w Russia. Afghanistan men, I like to say, were lean and mean. I’am from the States. The Afghan people are tough and resilient, they have to be and they are God fearing. I respect them.
I been there with medical teams for 1 month and I saw a lot of problems unfortunately,
I hope we can do something for these amazing people, they are very kind and hospitable with pure hearts,
Thank you so much BADAKHSHANI people 😇💚

This is the ever best documentary I have seen in my life. It is awesome. Appreciated your artistic and wisdom. Big salute.
I worked in Afghanistan for 5 years (Khost province 2008-2012). I enjoy these documentaries as I feel a little nostalgic and have a place in my heart for Afghanistan and the people/culture. There is a lot of good I can say about the Afghan people. I wish some of my countrymen could take some lessons from the Afghans in regards to many of their character strengths, but most of all their appreciation and contentedness for the simple things in life.

Beautiful indeed, spectacular beyond belief. May peace grace the Afghani people forever 🙏. I was in the US Army and was tasked with training the local police and Afghan army in Bermel Valley, Paktika province. Great informative documentary about this most neglected area of Wakhan Pamir adjacent to Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan, congratulations from my side. Wakhan people is ismalilis by religion sub sect of shia muslims very moderate , their current Imam is Prince Karim Agha Khan. Developed countries specially Agha Khan foundation should come forward and help them to construct specially road and infrastructure.
Are Sofia Ismaili Noorbakshis in baltistan are also Aga khanis ?
@@mohitbhardwaj3532 Sofia nurbakhshi and Ismailis are totally seperate sect of Islam. Ismailis sect people follows Prince Karim Agha Khan as Living Imam in the world. But Nurbakhshi mostly close to Suni and shia sect of Islam follows sufism but they have their own rules regulations, both of them Nurbakhshi and Ismailis are exisit in North Gilgit Baltistan of Pakistan
@@mohitbhardwaj3532 are you Ismaili or Nurbakhshi of Badakhshan
@@hadiakbarkargili637 thank you for sharing this information, but I'm a Hindu, In the Indian baltistan I seen these people and they are very open and welcoming and importantly they are secular as well, their mosque structure is also different.
Here I'm talking about bordering areas of the Chorbat valley outskirts of Skardu and khaplu, mostly these are Shia I believe. Here on the India side is Kargil and Hundermann .please correct me if I'm wrong. 🙏🏻
@@mohitbhardwaj3532 yes you are right brother, Before partition, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kargil-Ladakh was a single region. I also belongs to this region of Gilgit Baltistan (Pakistan). Basically the culture religion language of the maximum people here is the same except Ladakhi people of India mostly Bhudist the believers of Dalai Lama, All the these people are similar to each other in appearance across the boardes, They were especially muslims of Baltistan ( Pakistan) and Kargil (India) even they have blood relations before partition across the boarders between Skardu Baltistan and Kargil Ladakh, but these blood relatives had been separated from 75 years due partition of India Pakistan in 1947, Basically these people are very peaceful people and majority of them is Shia Muslims and others Nurbakhshi, Sofia, Imamia and Ismailis the sub sects of Shia Muslims also exists here in Gilgit Baltistan.
After seeing this I'll never complain about that pothole on main street again.
Complaining and fighting and death and blood is how people make governments to do what they were elected for! And to put an stop to the corruption at in some grade
Sudden pot holes are more dangerous than this cause those hole werent expected and at high gear
thanks for this video, it's so interesting to see all those good people and their life survival from very different angle as not a usual thing this days on a mainstream media

Thank you, a beautiful film❤
Much respect for these people as we all take things for granted and obvious they do not
I'm only 14mins in, and love the video, I have immediately picked up on few subtle scenes which really moved me.. and gave me more appreciation and respect for the Afghanistan and its people.
But the most moving part 6:29 was where you see the ultimate opposites of the universe in one frame: Desolate, cold, strikingly beautiful yet dead and uninviting backdrops, dangerous and violent environment for sure... against the innocent, undisturbed, happy and red faced, healthy and most importantly - laughing groups of children, playing in this hell as if it didn't exist.
Look at the face of that girl, she is happy and healthy, what more can you ask of God or whoever to give you in life, other than that.
You can almost hear the mountains muted screaming in anger, cause they cant make kids fear anything in their clueless childhood wanders.. yet they carry bags of flour, and they show family respect saying how they're happy cause thy're with the parents... imagine that.
Imagine a kid in the west saying that.. they'd give him addarol and xenyx and on the short bus for sure.
Second was how the old guy as tough as he is, shows a warm heart by extending credit, keeping tabs, but then - and this is hats off man respect- then he notes that credit was not necessary before, now it is, but that all those on the list are honorable men, showing the utmost respect and understanding for them.. and then he says they will pay him back, if in 10 years than fine, but they will.. wow.
He knows he might be dead by then, so he pbbly does not even expect the money back.. but he also knows trat doing a good deed like that, well, it can only help once he's gone, being generrous can only help in the afterlife, still he helps not out of interest but simple and pure, human (not Godly mandated) honest desire to help.. by this is pure as pure can be and I bet the ones who owe him are doing all they can to pay him back and will return the favor somehow..
Last, loved the barter, I;'D LOVE SOME FUKIN CHEESE here taker the onions he got almost 20 kilos of killer cheese, you know how good that cheese is?? These guys simply do a few back forths and smile and go on their way, simple.
They all basically live HAPPY, including kids, and even with Taliban and the wars, are actually happier in life than 90 % of us lost souls in the west... music saves me, though I';d go nuts.. or move over there to Afghanistan haha
The scenery is magical!
though old or new...........its relaxing to watch the videos.......

I was lucky to have traveled for over 3 months to many places there, Herat ,Mazar-I- Sharif and the view of the Pamir range is breath taking.
Although afghans are of many tribes but they all are tough and very friendly. Wonderful people. Sadly Russia and USA did a lot of damage there because they are only driven by greed and power..

These people are now under Taliban control and tried fleeing to neighboring countries but we're turned away the US done alot of damage but these people were free to live how they wanted but now there fear reprisal from the Taliban who practice a stricter form of Islam.
