3d CNC Milling BIG STUFF out of blue foam - Giant face!

I have some ideas for big stuff that I want to do, but I needed to figure out the workflow for cutting the parts first. This is Vcarve Pro, and it seems I need to figure out the reason it didn't cut all the way down to the bottom of the model slices in some areas.
normally the next steps would be to glue the slices together, refine the sculpt by hand, then putty it and paint it. I won't be doing that with this one though.

What type of brocas do you use to cut foam?
Was this done from fusion 360?
If your CNC has enough Z travel you could glue the foam into thicker blocks.

nice!!! i got a cnc machine to start doing my prototypes too, it still not together.. what kind of insulation you are using there?
just the blue insulation boards you can buy at big box stores like lowes and home depot. It is really soft though, so if you wanted your stuff to last you'd need to coat it in bondo or something.
Thnaks for the reply! i want to start using the cnc to make fiberglass molds for my automotive designs , i pretty much need to carve into something really soft to cut and tobe able to leave a smooth finish to make a FG mold off it,, any ideas?
depends on your budget. This stuff could work if you have more time than money. You'd need to coat it and sand it. Others use a thicker foam that is for making molds but it is more expensive. It can be sanded smooth though.
Thanks for posting this. Looking to do something similar. Build volume of 3D printing too small, print services WAY too expensive. CNCs for bigger way too big/expensive. Looks like industry's again offering Atari or mainframe. Groping, groping, groping for answers.

Can this specific foam be used for thermoforming?
maybe if you coated it with something. As is, it would likely melt.
I doubt it. It is a good insulator, so by the time it got hot enough to bend on one side, the other would still be cold. Also cellular foams are delicate compared to sheets of solid Petg or ABS.
is this CNC different machine that cuts wood like sign, letters or acrylic??

sound great. do u recommend a brand not so complicated, less than $5k, like 2ft x 3ft top? that cuts wood, styrofoam acrylic and more. I'm new in this and love the results.

See for me this is a good thing to “keep in my back pocket” as I am gonna be building a cnc machine shortly and one of the projects I want to do is a instrument case made with hard wood and as I’m sure you know hard wood is expensive as all get out so being able to test with foam just to make sure the size is right and the file isn’t doing anything crazy is a great insurance policy, I’d rather mess up 20-50$ in foam then 300-500$ of hard to find wood

Trimming the edges with scissors works well.
good to know. I need to refine the paths or something I was left with considerable areas that did not machine all the way down to the bottom. In Fusion 360 I would have done a final pass around the perimeter, but I didn't see how to do it in vcarve.
Still that's probably your best 3D work so you are gaining ground fast.

which product are you asking about? The router is from cncrouterparts.com, the foam is blue foam insulation board from a home repair store like lowes or home depot. This sculpture isn't for sale (too low quality) but you want something done you can message me.
