Yes yes i know, exposed helms! Outremer and nautitec for example, got simular setups. This is a mix between those brands and Lagoon. So if your looking for a simular setup? This is the best of both worlds! Price is in the video!
We have sailed from France to Tahiti in a Catana 381 and loved it during the passages but were always envious on Lagoon owners when at anchor. This is why I think Excess is the best of both worlds. When we first bought our Catana we were a bit worried about the exposed helm but we quickly became super enthusiastic. It gives you great feelings and nice visibility on the sails. feels like you are sailing not driving a truck. Also gives more space to the cockpit while making it easy to communicate with the rest of the team. And you know what, when the weather is bad you don't steer a cruising cat, you let Raymarine do it.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like there’s a few after thoughts and changes to make, other’s comments cover most of those. The ladder to access the coach house roof looks problematic on a couple of fronts. Sometimes it’s just as helpful to see what you don’t want.
Bad galley set up, stove right next to companion way and no counter space by it, with sink partially blocked. That and like you said the helms, but guessing this is not intended as a live aboard cat. The hull set ups are super nice though and with a little customize I'm sure it could be a great live aboard.
Thanks for the great video!!! Aft heml is the worst position not only is it incredibly unsafe but you have to look through the window to the saloon then through another window from the saloon to the bow WTF?
I haven't seen this one up close yet but it appears the Open 40 offers a better value for the money & build quality. Any suggestions? Thanks for the vid, another thumb up.
@@CatamaranChannel Hey CC, thanks for the reply and the feedback. I meant to ask about the Excess 12 vs the Open 40 but no worries, this was a good review and puts things in perspective. Regards!
Looks like made in Lagoon's mold. Side steering - not best choice for crowded Med marinas and anchoridges, it make sense for performance cat... but performance cat in Lagoons hull - nonsence. My opinion: strange concept.
Its very hard to come up with something new. Imo this is a crossing between nautitech/outremer and lagoon. Some might say no, but ive seen many many boats in real life, and i say yes. They did their best for a first timer. And im sure they going to sell some. Thanks for watching!
@@CatamaranChannel Have you tested Outremer or Catana? They are real performance cats, something different from cruisers (Lagoon-Leopard-FP-Nautitech...). Impossible to compare. Nautitech VS Excess - correct comparison. But! Looks at the trend: most Nautitech 46 in Med are flybrige cats. Maybe some owners order with side steering, but most of them (and all chartering company) - with flybrige. As a skipper, I understand why. Side steering for performance cat - OK. But for cruiser - not best option.
Still refusing to give up the crappy music? A little voiceover goes a long way. In 2019 I expect to not find boats where my ass hangs over the transom while at the helm.

In the hot tropics, in the summer you'd also have to stay on your Raymarine otherwise the heat will cook you!

The burners at the top of the companionway? Helms off the back of the boat - Comparing this to a well designed Outremer or Balance is a joke.

You cant compare a 40 to a 50.
But if you want, ok, take this one.

Anyone planning to buy this Cat should wait at least a year or two, newly launch yacht will have many issues. Dont be a guinea pig lol

@@pbogdan17 I agree with you.
BUT i also said its a mix, which it is.
See it as a faster lagoon.
@@CatamaranChannel "first timer" ? lol the Beneteau shipyard own this brand, like they own Lagoon, Jeanneau, and many others
@@antoinedescours2459 First time they try something else/different....
