  • This video is about the AIrbus A220-100, or the CS100, vs the Embraer E195-E2. The A220-100 is the smaller variant of the A220 family and has received less attention amongst many. Much of the orders are in fact for the larger -300 variant which is closer in size to A319. Embraer brought out the E195-E2 with new engines to compete with fuel efficient A220, but which is best? Watch another of these comparisons to find out! Thanks for watching and if you like this video and do consider subscribing for more great weekly airplane videos!

I am convinced that Airbus will dramatically reduce the price of the A220. They requested a 20% discount to suppliers, expecting a rise of selling. With 2 FAL in Mobile and Mirabel, they will be able to reach high production figures, by improving productivity.

I believe the E195-E2 has the customer comfort advantage for domestic routes with 2-2 seating, NOBODY wants the center seat of 3-2 seating. The E195-E2 is a nice add for smaller carrier due to 90% commonality between all E series aircraft. My vote is Embraer for smaller carrier, the A220/CS100 fits current fleets of most larger carriers.

A220, the range is too much, but is actually very good so it can fly transatlantic. E195 the range is too short, but its just right for regional flights but it can't do transatlantic. A bit of a mixed message. The A220 is basically a A318 designed by Bombardier with better fuel efficiency. The E2 is designed with regional flying in mind, it's not designed for transatlantic. In my opinion they are two completely different aircraft serving two different markets.
The E2 is a upgrade of the original and popular E-jet
The A220 is a mix, combining the benefits of regional aircraft with the range and flexibility of the A320/737 family, effectively creating a new market.

  • @katisuhara
    @katisuhara 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

For me the E2 serves one market and the A220 another market and there is not the best one, but the one that will suit each specific route for each airline, to obtain better competitiveness and profit. Passengers may have a preference for one or the other, but in general they will fly both, what will differentiate is the ticket price and the availability of flights.

Having flown in both in first class, the E2 175 & 195 are far better than the A220. Economy, they are very similar. The key is how each positions it's seats in the FC cabin. The A220 is a 2 and 2 standard configuration with very limited space between the seats. And the tray table is not friendly to any one of size. The E2 is a 1 and 2 and can stagger seats for additional separation of FC passengers.

Angelo t - Air Canada bought EmB 5 and 195 instead of MD-95 because they were cheap. . Big mistake ! First of all; they spent millions trying to get the jungle jets through the Canadian winters. They could not use the 175 over the mountains because of since engine performance, etc. They were terrible airplanes. Currently, they are disposing of the 190s and replacing them with A220. in short; the EmB was NOT a good aircraft. As an aside; it was Air Canada's last minute decision to buy cheap instead of quality that put the final nail in the MD-95 program. and perhaps changed the eventual course of history, as Boeing took over MD, but promoted their own dysfunctional 737 MIN, which was an eventual disaster. The MD-95/717 was a superior aircraft.

Both planes are wonderful machines. I think that Bombardier was aiming to hit Boeing, Airbus and Embraer all at the same time with one single shot.... and they actually succeeded, up to a point. They hurt those three companies, but having said that, the market post pandemic, will be highly favourable to both Airbus and especially to Embraer.
The 195 E2 is extremely quiet, has a very attractive sales price, lower maintenance cost and technologically speaking, it is as advanced, if not more, than the Airbus counterpart and there is one other very important aspect which is the after sales service provided by Embraer, which is unparalleled in the industry.
So, it will be very interesting to see how they are going to deal with the increasing competition from Russia and China. To my mind, the future looks bright for Embraer, especially now that it is free from the disastrous deal with Boeing.
Good luck to both aircraft, they are fantastic.

Both have different target markets. For transatlantic flights, A220 is too small; EMBRAER simply does not target this kind of flight. The 2-2 row system may be preferred by passengers who hate middle seats. Toilet size: how important is it for passengers? And the screen? OK, it is up to the companies to make their calculus. But do not forget political pressures on the companies and their choices!

The video has an obvious bias. Using the word "better" (which is a subjective term) to describe the cabin of the A220 shows the video's bias, to which it's entitled. So, instead of "asking" which aircraft is "better", it could have simply stated that it favors the A220 upfront, which would have been more honest. Some people might feel that the complete absence of middle seats is "better." To me, "better" depends on what a party needs. For example, a U.S. Airline such as American doesn't need 3400 nm of range to easily fly from Chicago or DFW to anywhere in the "lower 48." The 2650 nm range of the E195 is more than adequate for those missions. However, American may want the flexibility to fly from Miami to Seattle using a large regional jet, so the extra capability of the A220 would be good to have for that mission. My take is that both are great aircraft that cater to slightly different needs. That's how aircraft manufacturers usually do things. Very few aircraft compete with each other head to head. They usually have small differences that fill slightly different needs, and there are always trade-offs that have to be weighed. In spite of its obvious bias, the video did a decent job of pointing out the pros and cons of each aircraft.

Have you seen those tiny windows? No thank you. Not for more than 1 hour in the air. Definitely not for 5 hour flights. Both are basically as fuel efficient as each other. Airbus offer the a220 300 if you need more passengers. I expect them to offer much longer versions in the future, including a 500,700, 900 and possibly eventually a 1000 model.
Also list price of an airbus is not what you pay. So if you look at actual selling price I imagine they are very similar. In fact the a220 may currently be cheaper... But I expect this to change in the future.

@@onlineo2263 they're standard windows. What's wrong with them? The A220 cannot get bigger because it will clash with the capacity of the A320. @@thecaynuck4694 Wait a Minute... Time Goes By, and Things Change... After watching its main competitor Bombardier receive media attention with the successful C Series, commercial jets that ended up being incorporated by Airbus, and seeing its name involved in the negotiation with Boeing, the Brazilian manufacturer has long needed a good order for its planes. And it came in series, with eight customers closing orders for a total of 300 aircraft that, if confirmed, will generate revenue of no less than 15 billion dollars (almost R $ 60 billion).
The most eye-catching deal was announced on Tuesday (17) with the American company Republic Airlines. The regional airline operates flights to the country's three major airlines and is Embraer's largest customer in the United States. No less than 100 E175 jets were ordered, plus 100 purchase options. Detail: this order can be converted to the new E175-E2, a smaller version of the new family, which will start operating in 2021.
Another good news is the order of 10 E195-E2 with an option for 10 more planes by the airline Wataniya Airways, from Kuwait. She will be the launch customer for Embraer's new jet in the Middle East. In addition to it, Mauritania Airlines, for example, bought two E175s while Swiss Helvetic Airways closed a deal for 12 units of the E190-E2 with an option for 12 more planes that can be converted to the largest E195-E2. The leasing company NAC acquired three E190-E2 and an unidentified Spanish customer, another three E195-E2 with an option for two more aircraft.

Although it seems like the E195-E2 is more efficient and purposely built for the regional operations, upon closer inspection the E2's PW1900G engines are generally higher rated than the A220's PW1500G engines. Since both are the PW1000G engines scaled to different sizes, we can be certain that both engines has identical TSFC since they are both developed during similar times.
With this in mind, it would seems that the A220-100 is able to offer lower trip cost and greater range than the E195-E2 jet. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the E2 jets are the larger pool of pilots currently exist whereas the A220 has to built its pool of pilots from scratch as the CRJ still needs to undergo the full certification course.

Airbus got the A-220 for a single goose ( Un $ Canadien) because of Trump's stupidity, Boeing didn't get Embraer because of many stupidities (mostly of their making). It's really horses for courses: The A220 is a more dynamic plane that's a much younger design than the Embraer E2 which is a revamp - however profound it may be. I've flown both and wouldn't mind flying again in either. Crossing the big pond in an A220 could become a little claustrophobic for 8 1/2 hours for a big guy. Airbus got lucky and to prolong this luck they must drop the A 319 and replace it with the A220-200 in their offering. The A-220's for the US are produced in the Airbus factory in Mobile Alabama - this gives them an enormous advantage over Embraer with the historic US carriers.
