I would have loved if Brackenfur had the exact same kind generic good guy personality but the one exception is he just hates Greystripe’s guts. He never outright acts hostile but he’s just eternally passive aggressive to him and no one else.
Personally I loved that for him lol. I thought it gave him some vital depth/dimension and characterization on top of the generic good boy personality. I don’t really blame him, either- Graystripe was (supposed to be) his mentor and pretty much shirked the _entirety_ of his six moons of training in favor of meeting with his illegal gf, leaving Fireheart to mentor both Bracken & Cinder (and just Bracken after Cinder’s accident). I totally get Brackenfur resenting him for that and while he had good reason to let it go after a bit, I do like the fact that the authors seemed to remember the awkward dynamic between them.
The most imporant Brackenfur fact: Sorreltail "uses" his snoring to fall asleep. In Night Whispers there's a scene where Jayfeather offers Sorrel some poppy seeds but she declines and says "Brackenfur's snoring lulls me better than any medicine" or smth along those lines. Is this an important detail? Not at all. Is it incredibly adorable and heartwarming? Absolutely.
Whenever I think of the Brambleclaw/Brackenfur deputy plot line, I always remember the scene in Starlight (end of chapter 9) where Brambleclaw snapped at Mousefur that he "can't do everything" after his clanmates weren't thrilled about the new camp, only for Brackenfur to swoop in and comfort Mousefur while also being kind to/defending Brambleclaw. Bramble only apologized to her after he noticed Firestar watching him and the scene immediately after had him despairing about how he'll never become deputy. Doesn't sound like leadership material to me, idk.
Yeah if not for starclan Meddling he would be a minor antagonist and probably become Tigerstar 2 out of frustration he doesn't have the power he wants.
It's hard not to love Cardboardfur. Sure, he's a little boring and he's the number one character to be whatever the Erin's need him to be in the moment, but he's an OG and a loyal warrior and it's hard not to like him. I just wish they had given him more characterization, like maybe showing how his mentors abandonment of him affected him, and why he turned out to be such a rule-follower.
Honestly I feel like that was shown. It wasn’t told, though. They never outright stated it in the text, never had any character say or think “hey, i wonder if he doesn’t like Graystripe bc he was a bad mentor!” or anything, but if you’re paying attention then you will notice that in most of his interactions with Graystripe throughout series 2+, he’s… actually pretty passive aggressive! He’s never outright hostile, never openly indicates resentment or dislike, still polite and fine, but you do kinda get the vibe that’s something’s sort of tense there. It’s cool. I like it. It’s one of the things that the erins _didn’t_ butcher lmao

He was really passive-aggressive, then he was straight up pissed in Graystripe's Vow, but then in TNP they're good friends and he's crushed when Graystripe is caught by two legs, and when Graystripe came back in POT he was overjoyed, and they remained friends until the elders den. Seems to me they patched things up somewhere in between Graystripe's Vow and Midnight.
Damn shout out to brackenfur for having the most romantic line in warriors ("I would wait forever to see her face once more"). All this forbidden romance and the most devoted husband award goes to a guy who gets mostly ignored by the main characters.
I'd love a talking on Littlecloud someday! He's kind of just there, but he's gone through so much in his life and I've always appreciated the subtle hints that he honors his friendships and the clans themselves moreso than Starclan.
I would love for you to talk about Leafstar. She went from a rogue to the leader of a clan, had to deal with Sharpclaw’s disobedience, Sol being stinky, moved from location to location, tried to settle her clan by the lake, help The Sisters, and help ShadowClan. She’s been through so much and I think deserves to be recognized for that
I think you should talk about Thrushpelt. He appeared in BlueStar's Prophecy and one of the good toms in a sea of toxic ones. He is bestest boy and was a great dad.
part of why i love the fanfic Tinystars Beginning is that they give Brackenfur more personality by apprenticing him to Tinyclaw (who is basically scourge roleswapped with Fireheart, its a roleswap fic)

i think daisy could be an interesting video, even outside of her relationship with spiderleg there’s some topics that could be gone over. like the fact she’s one of 2 thunderclan cats to not take a warrior name when entering the clan, her relationship with her son berrynose, her fear of the clans when berrynose looses his tail as a kit and you could even go into daisy/cloudtail friendship (i’m saying friendship cus nothing romantic ended up happening and was completely one sided if at all)
Lichenfur is an old gray she-cat who joined SkyClan in SkyClans Destiny. She and the other elder, Tangle, were like SkyClan type of Mousefur and Longtail/Purdy.

actually this makes Firestars missing empathy with Brightheart a bit more infuriating, since he himself lot an apprentice only to train a new one. But he didn't let her have another one herself. Maybe he figured she'd just get one herself just like he did. Unfortunately for her, there is no second graystripe in ThunderClan and therefore no neglected apprentice available.

I feel like the main reason that Brackenfur attracts the attention of many warrior cats fans (myself included) is because of the grief and tribulations he has had to endure. His mentor neglected him, he never knew his father, his sister died, his son died, 2 of his daughters died, his wife died, and I'm probably missing some more. Fans just find it inspiring the way that he keeps his head and his spirits even though he has suffered some of the most loss any other background character has been through (excluding cats like ferncloud). The sad thing though is that his optimism is typically just the authors forgetting anything ever happened to him, which is why I both appreciated his time in bramblestar's storm and loathed it. I was very happy to see his grief being acknowledged by the authors in that book but it ended quickly because Dustpelt was being even more depressed and getting all the attention even though he was facing just as much as Brackenfur, if not less, since he didn't seem too torn about Foxleap and Iceclouds demise and such out of mourning for Ferncloud. It just made me mad because after Dustpelt gets the spotlight, Brackenfur just spends all his time comforting him and his own grief is no longer acknowledged. It's sweet, and all because he is being selfless enough to help instead of wallowing in self pity, but he just got like- 2 pages of mourning while Dustpelt gets it pretty much every time he appears in that book, which leads to believe that the authors simply didn't care. They wasted so much potential with Brackenfur and I hope his death scene one day at least reflects his longing to be with his past loved ones. I'm very Much rambling at this point so I'll spare your brain and stop here bahah
Also, he's one of the very few characters who cares about his extended family, plus one of the not as ableist cats. Despite not getting to see it much, I loved his relationship with Snowkit and Swiftpaw. I wish he'd mentored Jaypaw, I feel like he'd do a better job and maybe he could've remained a warrior...
I think the fact that his mourning was ignore works well for his character. Brackenfur, for his whole life, was just supposed to deal with things. No one ever expected anything less of him. "Aw your wife and kids died Brackenfur? Okay that's sad but up on your feet it's time to patrol." And he's just like, okay. Gets back up, pushes down his feelings and helps other people around him instead of taking some time for himself. And so, no one thinks to wonder if Brackenfur is okay because everyone always expects that he is.
@gil7068 Thornclaw didn't train in the Dark Forest. That was a writing mistake that was thrown at the last minute. He was never seen in the Dark Forest. It just doesn't make sense for his character.
I love that Brackenfur’s single personality trait is “good”. Lionblaze: How could Brackenfur turn to the dark side? His whole thing is being a boring good guy, that would make him far too complex.
With angry Brackenfur it would just be really funny if he was just finally snapping at Graystripe after he just kinda ditched him. So much pent up rage he's tired of being the nice guy...
I feel like it would actually have worked if it wasn't about Graystripe breaking the code. If Brackenfur believed Graystripe was going to run off with the queen (reminding him of his apprenticeship) then it could have actually been a good little scene.
Remember that Brackenfur is Cinderpelts brother? I do. They were shown to be close in "Fire and Ice", but they have zero interactions after "Forest of Secret". When she died Brackenfur shows zero grief for her and doesn't even attend her vigil (same for Brightheart and Thornclaw). It could be as well Sorreltail who decided to name one of their children after Cinderpelt.

It’s so weird how after Fire and Ice, no one ever mentions that those four are siblings except for one book where Brightheart has a cough and it says something along the lines of “her brother Thornclaw remarked about her cough” also am I just stupid or were Brightpaw and Thornpaw apprenticed later than Brackenpaw and Cinderpaw?
I dunno, i kinda feel like he stands out specifically because he doesn't have anything crazy going on. He's the rock of stability among recurring cats, the positive optimistic dude who keeps things grounded and sane despite his life being full of tragedy and suck. I like him.
Brackenfur is just my favorite cat from the main series. He is noble, he is strong, he is good, he SUFFERED a lot and always kept his optimistic attitude. Hes also a good friend and always has Firestar's back, what makes him super valuable ❤
My theory on Bracken Dust besties : Brackenfur is such a sweetie and just a general One Of The Boys kinda guy that like the majority of cats just settle in around him, and he seems like the kind that IRL would be like "Yeah haha I really don't like your view on xyz but hey we don't have to talk about that, there's other things we both like. " My theory on Brackenfur rage (besides author bs) : He is allowed one (1) weird outburst over something you never thought he would have an outburst over. All the really genuinely good people I know have some weird thing that makes them want to bite something when it's brought up. Also graystripe was a bad mentor to him I like to think there's that underlying side eye on Bracken's end and this was the outlet he got to snap at him. (Obv ignoring the reality of writers being Bad At Writing for these lmao)
i think it'd be funny if the main villain of the series was revealed to be in riverclan and brackenfur, in a sudden burst of rage, manages to kill the villain because "riverclan took so much from him" (graystripe). Unrealistic, but it would be pretty funny to me.
For the next talking I think it would be great to hear about Puddleshine ! He was basically forced into the position of medicine cat when he was still a baby and went through some big trouble during his life. He is a pretty unique character I think and deserve some recognition (And I love my Puddleboy)
i actually think it's super interesting that the narrative kind of supports the fact that you can just be forced into med-catting? Like it introduces the possibility that all these med cats that wait for a kit to show a certain "connection" are actually wasting their time. Provided, no one should ever be forced to do something for the rest of their life that they don't like, but I also feel like the distaste for medicine catting as a job comes from everyone only considering being a warrior to be the "normal" path, and that maybe staking the health of your clan on whether or not these tiny babies have interest in becoming a doctor is...not the best idea.
@@KZFathom I don't think Puddleshine make it useless. We know that lot of cats are able to learn about herbs and care (like Brightheart). But I don't think any cat is able to have a strong Starclan connection (Like Mothwing and Frostpaw). And this connection seem to be very important since talking with Starclan is the medecine cat's job. So I think it's better to choose someone with a strong connection. Shadowclan was lucky that Puddleshine turns out great

I think Brackenfur kinda snapped in Graystripe's Vow. He's always told people how much he respects and is thankful for Graystripe, but I think there was a lot of anger underneath the surface. I don't think it was really about Gremlin at all... I think him and Graystripe must have cleared things up off screen. I wish it hadn't been off screen...
Now I wish there was a scene with him and his granddaughter Spotfur. Just them talking, maybe reflecting on how they both lost their mates. That’s be nice.

actually this makes Firestars missing empathy with Brightheart a bit more infuriating, since he himself lot an apprentice only to train a new one. But he didn't let her have another one herself. Maybe he figured she'd just get one herself just like he did. Unfortunately for her, there is no second graystripe in ThunderClan and therefore no neglected apprentice available.

I feel like the main reason that Brackenfur attracts the attention of many warrior cats fans (myself included) is because of the grief and tribulations he has had to endure. His mentor neglected him, he never knew his father, his sister died, his son died, 2 of his daughters died, his wife died, and I'm probably missing some more. Fans just find it inspiring the way that he keeps his head and his spirits even though he has suffered some of the most loss any other background character has been through (excluding cats like ferncloud). The sad thing though is that his optimism is typically just the authors forgetting anything ever happened to him, which is why I both appreciated his time in bramblestar's storm and loathed it. I was very happy to see his grief being acknowledged by the authors in that book but it ended quickly because Dustpelt was being even more depressed and getting all the attention even though he was facing just as much as Brackenfur, if not less, since he didn't seem too torn about Foxleap and Iceclouds demise and such out of mourning for Ferncloud. It just made me mad because after Dustpelt gets the spotlight, Brackenfur just spends all his time comforting him and his own grief is no longer acknowledged. It's sweet, and all because he is being selfless enough to help instead of wallowing in self pity, but he just got like- 2 pages of mourning while Dustpelt gets it pretty much every time he appears in that book, which leads to believe that the authors simply didn't care. They wasted so much potential with Brackenfur and I hope his death scene one day at least reflects his longing to be with his past loved ones. I'm very Much rambling at this point so I'll spare your brain and stop here bahah
Also, he's one of the very few characters who cares about his extended family, plus one of the not as ableist cats. Despite not getting to see it much, I loved his relationship with Snowkit and Swiftpaw. I wish he'd mentored Jaypaw, I feel like he'd do a better job and maybe he could've remained a warrior...

I think the fact that his mourning was ignore works well for his character. Brackenfur, for his whole life, was just supposed to deal with things. No one ever expected anything less of him. "Aw your wife and kids died Brackenfur? Okay that's sad but up on your feet it's time to patrol." And he's just like, okay. Gets back up, pushes down his feelings and helps other people around him instead of taking some time for himself. And so, no one thinks to wonder if Brackenfur is okay because everyone always expects that he is.

@gil7068 Thornclaw didn't train in the Dark Forest. That was a writing mistake that was thrown at the last minute. He was never seen in the Dark Forest. It just doesn't make sense for his character.

They were shown to be close in "Fire and Ice", but they have zero interactions after "Forest of Secret".
When she died Brackenfur shows zero grief for her and doesn't even attend her vigil (same for Brightheart and Thornclaw). It could be as well Sorreltail who decided to name one of their children after Cinderpelt.
I remember that. It’s so weird how after Fire and Ice, no one ever mentions that those four are siblings except for one book where Brightheart has a cough and it says something along the lines of “her brother Thornclaw remarked about her cough” also am I just stupid or were Brightpaw and Thornpaw apprenticed later than Brackenpaw and Cinderpaw?

I dunno, i kinda feel like he stands out specifically because he doesn't have anything crazy going on. He's the rock of stability among recurring cats, the positive optimistic dude who keeps things grounded and sane despite his life being full of tragedy and suck. I like him.
Everytime I hear Brackenfur now I have to think back to Sunnyfalls video on how he should have been deputy instead 😭
Brackenfur is just my favorite cat from the main series. He is noble, he is strong, he is good, he SUFFERED a lot and always kept his optimistic attitude. Hes also a good friend and always has Firestar's back, what makes him super valuable ❤
My theory on Bracken Dust besties : Brackenfur is such a sweetie and just a general One Of The Boys kinda guy that like the majority of cats just settle in around him, and he seems like the kind that IRL would be like "Yeah haha I really don't like your view on xyz but hey we don't have to talk about that, there's other things we both like. "
My theory on Brackenfur rage (besides author bs) : He is allowed one (1) weird outburst over something you never thought he would have an outburst over. All the really genuinely good people I know have some weird thing that makes them want to bite something when it's brought up. Also graystripe was a bad mentor to him I like to think there's that underlying side eye on Bracken's end and this was the outlet he got to snap at him.
(Obv ignoring the reality of writers being Bad At Writing for these lmao)
i think it'd be funny if the main villain of the series was revealed to be in riverclan and brackenfur, in a sudden burst of rage, manages to kill the villain because "riverclan took so much from him" (graystripe). Unrealistic, but it would be pretty funny to me.

He was basically forced into the position of medicine cat when he was still a baby and went through some big trouble during his life.
He is a pretty unique character I think and deserve some recognition (And I love my Puddleboy)

i actually think it's super interesting that the narrative kind of supports the fact that you can just be forced into med-catting? Like it introduces the possibility that all these med cats that wait for a kit to show a certain "connection" are actually wasting their time. Provided, no one should ever be forced to do something for the rest of their life that they don't like, but I also feel like the distaste for medicine catting as a job comes from everyone only considering being a warrior to be the "normal" path, and that maybe staking the health of your clan on whether or not these tiny babies have interest in becoming a doctor is...not the best idea.
@@KZFathom I don't think Puddleshine make it useless. We know that lot of cats are able to learn about herbs and care (like Brightheart).
But I don't think any cat is able to have a strong Starclan connection (Like Mothwing and Frostpaw). And this connection seem to be very important since talking with Starclan is the medecine cat's job.
So I think it's better to choose someone with a strong connection.
Shadowclan was lucky that Puddleshine turns out great

Both bc she is my favourite… and that she actually has gone thru quite much if you think… Darkstripe nearly got her kiled by deathberries as a kit, her mentor left in the middle of her training, her siblings and a few of her kits died at a young age and she died hiding her wounds to protect her kits in the nursery. hehe

I think Brackenfur kinda snapped in Graystripe's Vow. He's always told people how much he respects and is thankful for Graystripe, but I think there was a lot of anger underneath the surface. I don't think it was really about Gremlin at all... I think him and Graystripe must have cleared things up off screen. I wish it hadn't been off screen...
