CHALLENGE 1. THE GRIM REAPER - 20% (DIFFICULTY: INSANE) If the main character falls in battle, even once, it's game over. If any character falls in battle, they are dead. Permanently. If a character's death breaks story events, the challenge is failed. You have to restart the whole playthrough if you want to reach 100%. Summoned creatures can fall without failing the challenge. CHALLENGE 2. THE EQUALIZER - 20% (DIFFICULTY: INSANE) Tactical pause is disabled. During combat, the tactical pause can't be used. CHALLENGE 3. THE IRON MAN - 15% (DIFFICULTY: HARD) You can only save the game in Ostagar or the Camp, while exiting the game. Once you reach the Party Camp, manual saves can only be created here, and only when you leave the game. Quitting the game during combat is an automatic failed challenge. Auto-saves are allowed in case the game crashes. CHALLENGE 4. THE TRUE COMMANDER - 8% (DIFFICULTY: HARD) No switching off of the main character during combat. Outside of combat you are free to switch on them to open locks, disarm traps and set up their tactics. CHALLENGE 5. THE ELITE BOSS HUNTER - 6% (DIFFICULTY: MODERATE) Every Elite boss must be confronted in the game. This includes, Cauthrien during the Rescue the Queen quest. This is the only time she is flagged as Elite Boss so she needs to be killed there. CHALLENGE 6. THE PURIST - 3% (DIFFICULTY: EASY) No exploits. You are not allowed to use any exploits in the game. No infinite xp(no Alison, no boosting troops with elfroot to farm xp etc), no infinite gold(no duping, no Potent Lyrium trading etc), no weapon tier upgrade by selling and buying back, no approval gain exploits etc. CHALLENGE 7. THE TOUGH GUY - 5% (DIFFICULTY: MODERATE) One healing potion for each party-member per battle. No penalty for healing spells. CHALLENGE 8. THE INVINCIBLE - 9% (DIFFICULTY: HARD) No resistance, defense or armor buffing consumables can be used in, or outside of combat(no balms, no Incense of Awareness or Rock Salve). Healing potions are completely disabled. Spells are okay(Swift Salve and poisons too). CHALLENGE 9. THE PEOPLE PERSON - 2% (DIFFICULTY: EASY) DLC gifts are disabled and you have to reach at least 90% approval rating with every follower. CHALLENGE 10. THE GREATEST HERO - 12% (DIFFICULTY: HARD) No dlc rewards are allowed, and you have to participate in every fight. No dodging dangerous encounters with Stealth, or running away and dropping out of combat to ignore enemies. Not fully exploring areas because of hidden danger is okay, avoiding a fight with persuasion or intimidation is allowed.
@@BrazenNL High defense is awesome... until a mage comes along. Or someone with Overwhelm or Grab. Or some random archers at the beginning lol. Honestly, without potions, pause, and switching of of the main character, a lot of things can kill you until late game. :)
@@Frosch_Playz It's an option. Not everyone has to go for the 100% when you want to try out the challenge. :) If Invincible is too hard, you can still get some % for beating the Tough Guy.
Damn! This is an extremely. . . challenging sounding "challenge"! Impressive. (and a bit scary) Also, I agree, Dalish gear (armor particularly) ROCKS! I'm kind of sad that Dwarven gear doesn't seem to have any "advantage" over generic (human) gear. Great video.

Dalish Origins is pretty underrated. It gives a lot of foreshadowing for the lore in later games like fen harel, connection between eluvian and black city/deep roads. Back then I always went for Dwarf noble because starting with 10% magic resist, starting 28 sovereigns and gorim discount is too OP to pass up :)
@@theoroderick782 You can get 3 gold for helping the scholar near the palace and a credit note sold for 25 gold by helping a noble at the feast. You need to select specific dialogue options to opt for money rewards. Also make sure to sold all your non-dlc items before the expedition since they will get removed from inventory once the mission completes
@@theoroderick782 Pick pocketing and assorted shenanigans aside you can get 3 sovereigns for siding with the noble over the scholar and you can receive a note of credit from Lord Dace which can be sold for 25 sovereigns(ask him for money as a reward for your support) but you have to do it before going to the deep roads as you'll lose all your inventory.
So excited to watch this series! I myself am too bad at the game to attempt this super difficult challenge, but it will be a lot of fun watching you go through it!
I am enjoying this playthrough. I'm looking forward to seeing how far you can go. It's nice to hear a running explanation of your tactics and choices in your own voice. I've always found the ending of Dalish elf origin story so sad and wistful. And you did a couple of things differently than I have done. I noticed that you made Duncan's skin tone a bit more swarthy than the original. I don't disapprove. It suits the character. And finally, if it isn't too intrusive to ask, what is the country from which you hail? I know you aren't French because you asked if you pronounced "coup de grâce" correctly. (You did, btw) The next installment should be grand!
@@johnmarraffa5079 I did not modify the vanilla game in any way other than installing the Visual Annoyance Remover mod. So I did not do anything with Duncan’s skin. Maybe its the texture settings that makes it look different? I had to lower them to medium to lessen the crashes. I’m from Hungary and I currently live in the Philippines. :)
HEy, super exited by this challange run, good luck Another rule you may want to incorporate into future rulesets is things like the following (though obviously totallly up to you) 1. Mercantalism - no buying and selling from shops. Use only what you find 2. Focus - you have to play the story beats of the game without deviation, so main story quest areas only, A true hero gets told to go to X and defeat Y and does it, they don't spend their time in some random forest leveling up, no!, they get straight to it. I'm not saying it's possible, I'm saying they are other types of things you may want to add

Okay, I'm doing another playthrough. Every time I see your videos it makes me want to play lol I'm probably not going to do the Hardcore challenge you're doing but, I kinda want to challenge myself a *little bit* lol
It's gonna be Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana. Although it's dangerous to bring Alistair and Morrigan since if they ever fall, the challenge is over, but I figured I have the best chance with them since they are the most versatile group because you get them early.
Looks very promising, the "no pause" rule sounds crazy difficult to me. Gonna probably binge it 😅 Wish it was no Dalish elf though, they're kind of disgusting.
@@AKisHerceg Well, they're lowly you know? Basically homeless, sleep with animals, probably smell like animals too. They radiate weakness. They talk about how "close knit" their community is but they're just sheep, herding together. Humans have been generous to them, giving them a chance to serve, but they turned to thievery, begging or vagrancy. They're just not meant for greatness.
I always wanted to do a throughout playthrough with origins other than a femhuman mage, but always ended up playing the mage lol. I suppose its bc other than the the classes and racial stories, there really aren't many difference between each origins and the mage is the most fun to play class for me.
Good stuff! I shall enjoy this a lot and i might even steal some of the rules! Only one thing, while i know that this is more of a gameplay oriented run, could you install a mod that increaes the fonts of the dialogues? Especially the dialogue options are very hard to read. I know the game by heart at this point, but it would still be better with more readable fonts

I've been avoiding this series since my Origins on Steam is not letting me play as I wanted to play along to it, this is deeply upsetting to me since I absolutely love DA:O.
@@AKisHerceg It was turned on, I tried turning it off and on and still the same thing. It is frustrating because it is the only Dragon Age game that does this, and I even use the EA version of Steam for Inquisition and DA2 (although DA2 has it's own issues for me).
@@AKisHerceg Good news, I got it to work, but launching it through Steam it is won't launch, but the desktop icon works. However, I do need to recollect all my achievements in game again (shudders at getting Grim Reaper again).

Is templar too weak against end game boss battles?

Cheese? I don't consider it cheese if you use smart tactics to beat hard fights by knowing how the game works. But I do have an aggro management tactic in mind for that battle. With a rogue and the warrior it is indeed the only solution I found to beat the beast reliably. Of course with the mage you have a few more options, but we are doing this with a rogue, which is severely underwhelming at the beginning.
Translation: Hide behind a barrel and shoot. 😝 Try a three mage, and Shale party. Hdxes, stone aura tree, etc. Starting attributes: Elf, +2 willpower and magic. Str 10 Dex 10 Will 16 Mag 22 (+5 at creation) Cunning 11 Con 10 Attributes after Vestments of the Seer Witch Hunt reward and the Magi origin Fade Striders: Str 10 Dex 10 Will 25 Mag 29 Cunning 11 Con 10 Attributes after Fade Fonts/Essences, Alienage deal, helm of honnleath, key to the city, lifegiver, sash of forbidden secrets, and specializations: Str 18 (still need +4 in strength to wear helm) Dex 18 Will 39 Mag 37 Cunning 20 Con 29 Blood mage, +2 spellpower and constitution. Spirit healer, +2 magic and +0.5 combat health regen. Level ups: 5 magic, every other level 4 magic 1 willpower. Arcane Mastery, +5 spellpower. Staff focus, +0.33 multiplier to staff damage. Spell wisp, spellpower bonus is 100 + SP multiplied by 0.05. It stacks with spell might. Spell might, spellpower bonus is 100 + SP multiplied by 0.1. Activate Spell Wisp, then Spell Might, then deactivate and reactivate Spell Wisp. Helm of Honnleath, +2 to all attributes but requires 14 strength which you can get by skipping willpower boosts. 14 instead of 20 because of the +2 from key to the city and +4 from fade fonts. Vestments of the Seer, +9 willpower and +6 magic. Elemental damage gloves, +20% cold, spirit, etc. Key to the City (ring), +2 to all stats. Elemental damage ring, Frostshear is +10% cold damage. Lifegiver, +10 con, +6 combat health regen, +10 exploration regen, and +3 armor. Lifedrinker (amulet), +4 spellpower. Fade Striders (boots), +1 magic/spellpower. Staff of the Magister Lord, 7 spellpower base with an additional +6 spellpower and +10% fire and spirit damage. Inflicts cold damage.
@@NobodyNothing-f5c Hide behind a barrel and shoot? Can I put my whole team behind a barrel? Because none of them can fall in battle at the Tower with this challenge. XD Actually, as I said, I will use aggro management by "convincing"(smacking it with a few flasks) the Ogre to follow me and keep the aggro on me - basically I turn myself into the tank of the party, and make sure the Ogre never catches me. That way the team can safely shoot it down with ranged attacks. "Attributes after Vestments of the Seer Witch Hunt reward and the Magi origin Fade Striders:" In HC100% I'm not allowed to use dlc rewards. I destroyed them at the beginning. "Try a three mage, and Shale party. Hdxes, stone aura tree, etc." Three mage? I can't have three mages if I'm a rogue. I'm gonna stick with Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana for a long time(if not forever). I get them first and they will have the most amount of skills/attribute points. Also the Fade is actually extremely dangerous with low magic res and permadeath(I would need to fight both Sloth and Uldred not to mention a ton of mages and demons to be able to get Wynne), and so is Honnleath(Kitty fight at the end with 4 Rage Demons spamming Flame Blast and Fire Ball - remember, I can't pause nor heal with potions, only with magic and Morrigan can't Heal everyone at once until she gets to level 14 to get the Spirit Healer's Group Heal). So going to these places to get Wynne and Shale is not gonna be my first option. :)
Do you ever pick up Momentum in the dual weapons tree? It carried me pretty hard in my (admittedly scuffed) dual longswords warrior playthrough but I never really see it mentioned online.
Of course! I will not use Haste in this playthrough(unless I bring Wynne and that is not gonna happen for quite a while), because I don't think we can deal with the attack penalty when every hit counts. So Momentum will be a key part of the build. We need that fast attack speed. :)
so how do you handle the memory leak for long playthrough? just exiting and re-entering the game every 2 hours or so? I've tried all the tricks like installing LAA etc, none seemed to work.
@@IMBREISGAU Yes, I will create a hard save in the camp after 30-60 min and restart the game. But honestly nowadays I don’t really have time to play for 2 hrs, so basically 1 hr or 1.5 tops. But the game starts acting up around 45 min already sometimes. Also I play the game on medium textures which at least reduced the crashes by a lot.
You mentioned in your earlier video that cunning rogue has better damage than dex rogue but you said in this video you're going for dex rogue to maximize damage. I guess you also want to have better survivability with high defense? From my experience, cunning rogue is overral better cuz of higher damage output while also can do other utilities like lockpick, disarm traps and stealing, allowing you to swap out Leliana with Zevran or other warriors that can benefit more from mage buff like Haste, flaming weapon, etc
@@tysonngo43 I said damage is what we are going to be all about - because that will be our role in the party. As Dex rogues we will certainly not be crowd control guys nor tanks, nor support. We will try to deal as much dmg as possible. I would not dare to do this challenge with a Cunning rogue to be honest, because they are way too squishy. At least with Dex, eventually you won’t have to be afraid of normal physical attacks and skills that can miss. Just magic and skills that can’t miss. With a Cunning rogue, you would have to be afraid everything as soon as you are no longer in Stealth. Which is why I picked the Dex route. :)
Wait, if you can't switch allies, you can't manually command them to gobble up a healing poultice, but if you put auto heal in tactics, they'll just heal until they run out of poultices. Even if you only have 4 poultices in your backpack, one character can eat them all, which would be a challenge violation. How do you manage poultices then? Manually through a pause in the backpack?
That challenge is actually a bit tricky. You would need to have 3 different type of healing pots: small, normal, and large or potent(only 1 piece from each in your pack so they don't drink more than 1 during a fight) and each follower needs to be set up to use a specific one. Let's say Alistair uses Potent, Leliana uses the mid and Morrigan uses the small. However I skip that challenge since one of the other challenges is to not use health potions, so if I want the 100%, then I can't use healing potions at all.
@@AKisHerceg I see. Isn't using stealth bombs a much tougher abuse than using balzams, for example? Even regular bombs are too strong. Without them solo warrior is almost impossible for example. You have to restart 40 times on Ogre to pass it without bombs, and meeting the dog after Flemet without bombs is a nightmare - you have to run to the other end of the map while the dark spawns killing the dog, and then kill them one/two at a time. And the dog ends up dead anyway.... Anyway, you got me interested in this challenge. We'll see.
@@EminNSU I consider it as a tactic, not an abuse(plus you can still end up caught with your pants down if you get revealed wile you throw a bomb). Using a consumable is not an abuse either, but it just makes fights much easier. For example the fight with Kitty and the rage demons in Honnleath or the battle with Flemeth turns into a joke if you use Greater Flame Balm.
@@AKisHerceg Unless you're going solo, these are easy fights anyway. One character in wade armor or a battle mage can tank Flemeth indefinitely while the others feed her with damage.
@@EminNSU What you described are tactics. You are allowed to use any type of tactics with this challenge. With Fire Balm you don’t actually need a tank for Flemeth, all you have to do is equip your bow and shoot while someone heals the tiny damage that her Fire Balls do. She is static so she will never approach you and if you stay in mid range all she can do is spam her Fire Balls with next to no damage if you use Flame Balm. So it’s a pretty lame fight with balms. The fight with the Broodmother is also much easier with balms because the huge nature damage she can dish out can be reduced to next to nothing with a nature balm - same with the Archdemon with a simple Spirit Balm. So generally speaking balms would make the game less tense in my opinion, especially when you go against mages. It makes the race to acquire magic resistance less exciting. That was basically my idea when I created that challenge. :)
I can only talk about my experience with the Ultimate Edition: Crashes happen depending on where you are and what skills are being used by you or the enemy. For example the Hurl and Throw animation(when the rock gets destroyed on the ground) almost always crashes my game. Same with Holy Smite and some demon abilities like Cursed Dance. Also places like Denerim will crash very often if you visit too many places/enter too many houses. I will explain this in this playthrough when I get to Denerim. The Deep Roads are also very prone to crash for me, same with the Bercillian Forest. Other places are less so. My textures are also set to Medium - yet another thing that makes my game crash less. One last thing: the only mod I use is the Visual Annoyance Remover, because that mod actually makes my game not lag from sustained skills and also makes it crash less, so I definitely recommend you give it a try.

2. Focus - you have to play the story beats of the game without deviation, so main story quest areas only, A true hero gets told to go to X and defeat Y and does it, they don't spend their time in some random forest leveling up, no!, they get straight to it.
I'm not saying it's possible, I'm saying they are other types of things you may want to add

It's gonna be Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana. Although it's dangerous to bring Alistair and Morrigan since if they ever fall, the challenge is over, but I figured I have the best chance with them since they are the most versatile group because you get them early.

@@AKisHerceg Well, they're lowly you know? Basically homeless, sleep with animals, probably smell like animals too. They radiate weakness. They talk about how "close knit" their community is but they're just sheep, herding together. Humans have been generous to them, giving them a chance to serve, but they turned to thievery, begging or vagrancy. They're just not meant for greatness.

I always wanted to do a throughout playthrough with origins other than a femhuman mage, but always ended up playing the mage lol. I suppose its bc other than the the classes and racial stories, there really aren't many difference between each origins and the mage is the most fun to play class for me.

Only one thing, while i know that this is more of a gameplay oriented run, could you install a mod that increaes the fonts of the dialogues? Especially the dialogue options are very hard to read. I know the game by heart at this point, but it would still be better with more readable fonts

I've been avoiding this series since my Origins on Steam is not letting me play as I wanted to play along to it, this is deeply upsetting to me since I absolutely love DA:O.
How come it does not let you play it? To me the Steam version(other than crashing often) works fine. Is there an error message?

@@AKisHerceg It was turned on, I tried turning it off and on and still the same thing. It is frustrating because it is the only Dragon Age game that does this, and I even use the EA version of Steam for Inquisition and DA2 (although DA2 has it's own issues for me).

Anyway I'm trying to finish Inquisition, but I keep getting bored with my champion warrior. So i am trying to pick between templar and reaver. Quick question. Which is more fun class anyone? Is templar too weak against end game boss battles?
Templar is generally weaker against bosses and the Reaver is weaker against mobs. However, with masterworks, both can be balanced out. :)

Cheese? I don't consider it cheese if you use smart tactics to beat hard fights by knowing how the game works.
But I do have an aggro management tactic in mind for that battle. With a rogue and the warrior it is indeed the only solution I found to beat the beast reliably. Of course with the mage you have a few more options, but we are doing this with a rogue, which is severely underwhelming at the beginning.

Key to the City (ring), +2 to all stats.
Elemental damage ring, Frostshear is +10% cold damage. Lifegiver, +10 con, +6 combat health regen, +10 exploration regen, and +3 armor.

Fade Striders (boots), +1 magic/spellpower.
Staff of the Magister Lord, 7 spellpower base with an additional +6 spellpower and +10% fire and spirit damage. Inflicts cold damage.

Actually, as I said, I will use aggro management by "convincing"(smacking it with a few flasks) the Ogre to follow me and keep the aggro on me - basically I turn myself into the tank of the party, and make sure the Ogre never catches me. That way the team can safely shoot it down with ranged attacks.

In HC100% I'm not allowed to use dlc rewards. I destroyed them at the beginning.

Three mage? I can't have three mages if I'm a rogue. I'm gonna stick with Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana for a long time(if not forever). I get them first and they will have the most amount of skills/attribute points. Also the Fade is actually extremely dangerous with low magic res and permadeath(I would need to fight both Sloth and Uldred not to mention a ton of mages and demons to be able to get Wynne), and so is Honnleath(Kitty fight at the end with 4 Rage Demons spamming Flame Blast and Fire Ball - remember, I can't pause nor heal with potions, only with magic and Morrigan can't Heal everyone at once until she gets to level 14 to get the Spirit Healer's Group Heal).
So going to these places to get Wynne and Shale is not gonna be my first option. :)

Do you ever pick up Momentum in the dual weapons tree? It carried me pretty hard in my (admittedly scuffed) dual longswords warrior playthrough but I never really see it mentioned online.
Of course! I will not use Haste in this playthrough(unless I bring Wynne and that is not gonna happen for quite a while), because I don't think we can deal with the attack penalty when every hit counts. So Momentum will be a key part of the build. We need that fast attack speed. :)

so how do you handle the memory leak for long playthrough? just exiting and re-entering the game every 2 hours or so? I've tried all the tricks like installing LAA etc, none seemed to work.
@@IMBREISGAU Yes, I will create a hard save in the camp after 30-60 min and restart the game. But honestly nowadays I don’t really have time to play for 2 hrs, so basically 1 hr or 1.5 tops. But the game starts acting up around 45 min already sometimes. Also I play the game on medium textures which at least reduced the crashes by a lot.
In the beginning you swap to two daggers. How did you do that as when my game starts i only have a bow?

You mentioned in your earlier video that cunning rogue has better damage than dex rogue but you said in this video you're going for dex rogue to maximize damage. I guess you also want to have better survivability with high defense? From my experience, cunning rogue is overral better cuz of higher damage output while also can do other utilities like lockpick, disarm traps and stealing, allowing you to swap out Leliana with Zevran or other warriors that can benefit more from mage buff like Haste, flaming weapon, etc
@@tysonngo43 I said damage is what we are going to be all about - because that will be our role in the party. As Dex rogues we will certainly not be crowd control guys nor tanks, nor support. We will try to deal as much dmg as possible. I would not dare to do this challenge with a Cunning rogue to be honest, because they are way too squishy. At least with Dex, eventually you won’t have to be afraid of normal physical attacks and skills that can miss. Just magic and skills that can’t miss. With a Cunning rogue, you would have to be afraid everything as soon as you are no longer in Stealth. Which is why I picked the Dex route. :)
You made the Gray Warden A chick ? It's definitely gonna be tough when it comes to the whole immersive thing but maybe it'll work out alright.

Wait, if you can't switch allies, you can't manually command them to gobble up a healing poultice, but if you put auto heal in tactics, they'll just heal until they run out of poultices. Even if you only have 4 poultices in your backpack, one character can eat them all, which would be a challenge violation. How do you manage poultices then? Manually through a pause in the backpack?
That challenge is actually a bit tricky. You would need to have 3 different type of healing pots: small, normal, and large or potent(only 1 piece from each in your pack so they don't drink more than 1 during a fight) and each follower needs to be set up to use a specific one. Let's say Alistair uses Potent, Leliana uses the mid and Morrigan uses the small.
However I skip that challenge since one of the other challenges is to not use health potions, so if I want the 100%, then I can't use healing potions at all.

Isn't using stealth bombs a much tougher abuse than using balzams, for example?
Even regular bombs are too strong. Without them solo warrior is almost impossible for example. You have to restart 40 times on Ogre to pass it without bombs, and meeting the dog after Flemet without bombs is a nightmare - you have to run to the other end of the map while the dark spawns killing the dog, and then kill them one/two at a time. And the dog ends up dead anyway....
Anyway, you got me interested in this challenge. We'll see.
@@EminNSU I consider it as a tactic, not an abuse(plus you can still end up caught with your pants down if you get revealed wile you throw a bomb). Using a consumable is not an abuse either, but it just makes fights much easier. For example the fight with Kitty and the rage demons in Honnleath or the battle with Flemeth turns into a joke if you use Greater Flame Balm.
@@AKisHerceg Unless you're going solo, these are easy fights anyway. One character in wade armor or a battle mage can tank Flemeth indefinitely while the others feed her with damage.
@@EminNSU What you described are tactics. You are allowed to use any type of tactics with this challenge. With Fire Balm you don’t actually need a tank for Flemeth, all you have to do is equip your bow and shoot while someone heals the tiny damage that her Fire Balls do. She is static so she will never approach you and if you stay in mid range all she can do is spam her Fire Balls with next to no damage if you use Flame Balm. So it’s a pretty lame fight with balms. The fight with the Broodmother is also much easier with balms because the huge nature damage she can dish out can be reduced to next to nothing with a nature balm - same with the Archdemon with a simple Spirit Balm. So generally speaking balms would make the game less tense in my opinion, especially when you go against mages. It makes the race to acquire magic resistance less exciting. That was basically my idea when I created that challenge. :)
To all here in the coments, is there a way to make the game NOT crash every 5 minutes?
4gb patch fixes most of the instability issues
I can only talk about my experience with the Ultimate Edition:
Crashes happen depending on where you are and what skills are being used by you or the enemy.
For example the Hurl and Throw animation(when the rock gets destroyed on the ground) almost always crashes my game. Same with Holy Smite and some demon abilities like Cursed Dance.
Also places like Denerim will crash very often if you visit too many places/enter too many houses. I will explain this in this playthrough when I get to Denerim. The Deep Roads are also very prone to crash for me, same with the Bercillian Forest. Other places are less so. My textures are also set to Medium - yet another thing that makes my game crash less.
One last thing: the only mod I use is the Visual Annoyance Remover, because that mod actually makes my game not lag from sustained skills and also makes it crash less, so I definitely recommend you give it a try.
