    Just finished the rear cylinder. I did not want to take the battery out, because as it's a real pain to get it through the hoses on my bike. So...
    Here's a tip: On the rear cylinder exhaust valve plate cover, if you are careful, you can loosen the bottom bolt "almost" out, and then you can just move the cover over without completely detaching it. Worked for me! If I had taken it all the way off, it would have taken me forever to screw it back in... :-)

    Like the idea of using washers to undo the timing covers, never would have thought of that ...

    I took torch and heated to red hot a 10mm wrench, so I could bend small angle. I used the closed side for more grip and cut it shorter so it gets in small places better. Its now a dedicated wrench and essential to my bike. I also use it on the rubber carb boots. Its a must have.

    BTW, my cylinder marks are reversed. My "T" is the front cylinder, and my "|" is the rear (under the seat) - can anyone explain this? It took me half a day to figure this out! Thanks! Purring like a big cat now... :-)

    Jarmo, Love your videos. Can you tell me who makes the frames and panier bags that you have on the rear of the bike?

    • @jarmojarvinen1585
      @jarmojarvinen1585  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Marucci hi, Those are givi bags and frames are slightly modified, bit I do not know origin of those.

    My front cylinder isn’t running so I adjusted the valves and now it makes a clanking sound any ideas on what could be wrong

    • @badluck6791
      @badluck6791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And yes it’s getting spark and fuel

    • @jarmojarvinen1585
      @jarmojarvinen1585  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bad Luck just thinking what means clanking sound. If valve clearance is correctly adjusted its not the reason. Is spark given at right time?

  • @Samos12

    ...a basic beginner question. Everything refers to intake valve and exhaust valve, but which is which? Where is the intake valve versus the exhaust valve? Thanks! :-)

    • @jarmojarvinen1585
      @jarmojarvinen1585  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samos12 well, intake is at carburator side and exhaust is at exhaust pipe side. Quite easy to see in virago engine

      Thanks for your fast response Jarmo! Your timing is great, as I'm actually going to try this today. What year is your bike? Mine is a XV 535 from 1996, and your videos are really helpful to me! :-)

    Shouldn't you have turned engine forward instead of backwards to find top dead center? My understanding is that some slack in timing chain may alter reading. I know you turned backwards, but not sure it matters. Suppose to see letter F before T, but don't know. Your knowledge appreciated.

    • @jarmojarvinen1585
      @jarmojarvinen1585  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RJSoftware2000 Hi you need to rotate engine clockwise, not counterclockwise. I moved ot a bit to wrong direction ( only few degrees) as mark passed slightly. Well right way could be to turn over again:-)

    • @RJSoftware2000
      @RJSoftware2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, I gotta ask dumb question, which way engine turn the cam, top of cam gears rolls toward front of bike right?

    • @RJSoftware2000
      @RJSoftware2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      at 8:07 it can be seen you are turning motor to right, towards bike rear. I do not say this wrong, just confused, ...

    • @jarmojarvinen1585
      @jarmojarvinen1585  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      RJSoftware2000 Hi, turn clockwise, first T-mark and later comes front cylinder. You may open the bolt if turning the other way 🙃
