  • After everything we've tried, the land cruiser is slightly better but it is still smoking heavily on startup. It gets very expensive from here on an Injection Pump, or a full engine rebuild.

I read the comments and seems you are going to pull the engine. When I used to work at a shop we would do wet and dry compression test to try and determine weather an engine was suffering from valve stem seals or rings

If "smoke" disappears it's water vapor. It's one of the standard questions on the ASE Engine Repair testing. For getting certified. I was raised in my dad's auto repair shop. Isn't drifting like figure skating of the automotive sports? ;-)

Did you pass your certification? How about smoke from leaking from valve stem seals or from damaged piston rings?

Hi again, I think the next step is check the turbo s bearings and seals also the oil drain. Something else to consider is what oil are you using.? Good look.

I got a similar issue with 1hdt engine. The problem was that nozzels washers where uncorrect so they spray diesel too close to the head. That makes somoke and underpower engine

I think folks try to re-use the copper washers and give themselves even more trouble!

Hi, before you start spending and making work. give it a good long blast get it good and hot. If your lucky it could now be down to residue oil build up from previous faults like the inlet manifold and injectors. Diesels love being worked to keep em clear.

Yes I've had it go at a very very quick speed indeed. Done a few hundred miles. No improvement unfortunately. It just smokes like crazy when cold, and it's totally fine when warmed up

I'm a bit confused, haven't you already decided that your engine needs an overhaul?

Yes the engine is coming out completely. The videos arent live, I'm always a few weeks ahead (back in the real world away from TH-cam)

Have you given it a good run out since all the work ? Turbo will oil up with just idling

Yeah I've had the old girl up to 105miles per hour on a special trip to Mexico. There's certainly nothing wrong with it once it's warm!

You may have made this video before the previous? When you had fitted clear fuel pipes and we saw the bubbles. Anyhow, I had a RAV4 with a similar primer button for the fuel filter. When it was pumped up it went completely solid and you couldn’t push it down at all. It remained like that until you next broke the seal on the filter or pipes. I’d say you’re not getting a good seal and so air could be being drawn in?

You're right I uploaded these in the wrong order. It's getting complicated 😂 it goes completely solid now once primed. So that's another thing ruled out. Time for a compression test and a head gasket check

Did you feel the engine underpower or its normal

No it felt full powered as long as it was warmed up. While running on 5 cylinders it was terrible, but once it was warm you'd never know.
