Actually, Barry came up with the chorus on his way to the studio. He sang it to Robin, and as the album they were working on wasn't finished Robin suggested they put it on the album and that Barry should sing the verse and Robin the chorus.
Don't forget those born in the 50s and 60s. They, like me, got see the start of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bee Gees, ABBA and Queen. Just to name five of the biggest - and there were so many other singers/groups that breathed life into music. Cheers.
The strongest ballad of their post-Fever career, 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' is the best of what the pop ballad can be: a massive hook, an evocative title, a sensitive lyric and naturally Brothers Gibb supreme song-craft.
Who.doesent love the Bee Gees, born on Isle of man moved to my city Manchester before later Emigrating to Australia, one of my favourites songs of there's.
Wow, what a beauty of a song. Sung, so heartfelt. Brings a tear to my eyes. We lost MAURICE - ROBIN, much to soon. RIP - BROTHERS!!! Your music will I've on for eternity!!!
This song pulls on your heartstrings and is timeless...It is absolutely one of my favorites by the Bee Gees!!! Thanks for the wonderful reaction too!!!
Hi Angela, thanks for playing this song. You showed visual emotion whilst you listened to the song. This is what happens when we listen to the best all-round band in music history. They were simply at a higher level than every other musician. John Weaver. 👏💯🕺👍
Nice to see this reaction video, Angela, as this song in particular, is one of my favourite Bee Gees classics. Robin is definitely the 'main man' here, imo. You get the full 5/5 stars for this one. Stay safe 👍🏽 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
It was nice to hear Robins voice more overpowering aswell as Barry's beautiful voice. Loved Maurice on the guitar & singing, just adore him. I really love this song, & have heard it many times, just love to hear it continuously!💝💝
Just enough falsetto, and I sure love when Robin turns on his crystal male-mezzo-soprano voice. Watching the video -- I thought that if they had inserted lyrical references to Christmas, this might've become a Holiday Season classic in the same vein as WHAM's "Last Christmas." And man, it's so great to see them when they have a backup band in the scene; even if it is lip-synched. Only thing missing here is the drummer. The Bee Gees often used references to other art works in their lyrics. Here they use the title from an old songbook standard "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea." Also they take this song's title from the classic novel of 1940 by Ernest Hemingway -- who took his from the classic 17th century poem "For Whom The Bells Toll" by Englishman John Donne.
Robin's widow Dwina said the title lyric came about because Robin happened to glance at a book shelf while on the phone and noticed the Hemingway title so it was on his mind when the three of them started writing (although I'm never clear if all three or just Robin and Barry wrote most of the lyrics.)
With no disrespect to Barry, this song is ALL Robin. It is Robin's astonishing vocal that MAKES this song and makes you feel. This should have been the focus of the reaction.
Great song and the background is magnificent.Just seeing NewYork when it was whole, before the Twin Towers fell is moving. Thanks to the BeeGees for this one.Special. I think this was about their relationships and losing Andy. Think I watched this performance on The Today Show years ago.Now I can appreciate it more. Thanks to TH-cam.R.I.P.Robin , Mauruce and Andy.Carry on Barry.
Written after they lost brother Andy. Makes the words even sadder. They really hated that they couldn't save him. Ironic they played this with trade centers in background
You picked a gem here, Angela. This one is right up there with First of May, New York Mining Disaster and Fanny (Be Tender With My Love). By the way, congratulations on the 15K subscriptions.
Here's good song that more than likely no one has suggested. It's called "If You Go Away" and the best version, IMHO, is done by a singer named Jack Jones ... it's sort of along the lines of Unchained Melody, but different
Yes, it did not get the airplay in the US. It did in the UK and went to either #1 or 2 there. Surely, if it had gotten airplay in the US, it would have shot to #1. This is too good of a song to not air. Shame on the those who decide what songs get airplay and what doesn't. This one definitely deserved it.
Same here. I am pretty sure that the only version of this song I have heard is Robin singing the lead all the way through. Didn't even know they did a version like this with Barry also singing.
@@davidcohen7146 I have never heard the version of Robin singing lead all the way through. I have only heard both Robin and Barry. Do you recall where you heard the Robin only version? I would love to hear that one as I just love Robin's voice so much.
@@mariekeung7187 Well I googled the song and it gave the credits to writing the song to Barry, Robin, and Maurice. I have heard this great song many times and I always though it was Robin who wrote it and sang lead. I guess that I made a mistake though. Barry is my fav BeGee but Robin is for sure my second Favorite. I love how both there voices are so great but at the same time so different.
@@davidcohen7146 I think all of the Bee Gees songs credit all three brothers. Even though Barry have said in interviews that he and Robin write most of the lyrics, Maurice does many of the melodies, etc. He was the electronics guy too so it's fair that all 3 get credit. In one of Robin's interviews, he said he got the inspiration for the song when he was looking through the books on a bookshelf and there was the book For Whom the Bell Tolls. And thus, the song was born. I love Barry's voce and his falsetto but Robin's is just so different and unique. I just love it and love his vibrato.
@@mariekeung7187 The Begee song that I was thinking about that Robin sings the lead all the way and also writes the song is Saved By The Bell. Sorry about that. LOL.
It would be awesome if you would react to "I could not love you more" or "Will you still love me tomorrow". Just a couple more truly awesome songs from the greatest group ever ;)
No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee.
Please react to their song, 'This Is Just Where I Came In.' Its a song about their journey if I'm not mistaken. Its from their final album and you get to see what they were like 30 years later. Even with the long list of great music, and it being one of the last songs they did together, Its still one of my favorite beegees songs. Please react to the music video though, live is great but the video is pretty funny, something you miss in the live versions.
Love the channel and a great Bee Gees tune !...a request that I would like to make is from the great Bryan Adams - l' m ready ...a true favorite , thanks...
They are the best group of all time... 1000 years can pass and they will be remembered with lots of affection and love 🙏🏻💖
Robin’s vibrato is Heaven to my ears!
It’s how I imagine angels sound. ❤️
Robin takes this song over the top. He has a gorgeous voice. He wrote this song. Barry maybe, too.
All three Bee Gees wrote the song.
@@saintsefo4763 Not what I heard. Check out interviews, etc.

Just like Abba.
Robin's voice was awesome! Always is.
This song is a masterpiece. 🥰🥰🥰
goosebumps when robin arks up, no doubt
@@maxmirni2768 Totally agree. Robin owns this song, without a doubt. He made this song the masterpiece it is.
My favourite track of theirs, just love Robin's voice ❤️❤️

Agree, on a level with How Deep Is Your Love.
I hope people understand. Listening to the Bee Gees. Is a privilege to ones ears.

Indeed, most underrated in the Bee Gess, different voice to his brothers.

They are such master song writers, like you said, where does it come from, amazing!
You have to hear Robin Gibb sing Live from Melboune , "I Can't See Nobody", and the song "Bodyguard". Fabulous!

This is an incredible tune. Barry does a great job, but Robbin is so amazing on this song.
If you've never done them, I'd also recommend their song Closer Than Close with Maurice singing lead and also Heart Like Mine.
