Corn smut is very sought after in Mexico. They eat it and say it great. I have never tried it

Hi Joey , it’s a lot of work to do when you get back from vacation. Been getting some good rains. The pastures are green again. The garden is doing okay but couldn’t keep up with the grass. That is a nice looking row of watermelons. Those sweet potatoes are awesome. We planted some pumpkins and they look good. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍

That's the thing about corn you got to deal with the stocks I used to feed the leaves if they were still green to the pigs and the hard stocks I used to pile up and burn them I didn't have a rotary mower

I've had it canned before, not to impressed, but I hear when prepared fresh it is great. I grew up thinking it was poison. 😊

Forgive my ignorance...is Jimmy Red a eating corn, or one that you dry and grind for baking purposes?
No Ignorance. Good question. You can eat it like sweet corn and you can grind it later on in its dry stage. Also makes excellent live stock feed.
The silk on my jimmy red is that same reddish/purple color. Either ours are both normal or both have the same issue…. Guess we’ll know in a few weeks 🤣

The whole west coast is on fire out here. Here in Washington, think there are eight major fires, Oregon has about a dozen or more. Could be two months before we get rain. Several of the fires will only be put out when it snowes.
When I get smut in the corn, I burn it. Have been told you don't want to get the pores in your soil, but that may just an "wives tale".
