Gold prospecting a GPAA claim in San Diego county CA

  • I'm gold prospecting on a GPAA claim in my own county. My exploration is not complete. The water level is higher than normal due to exceptional rainfall. I will need to come back when it drops. Since the average water level is much lower i'd assume that the best drop zones for gold would most likely be towards the center of the flow. I look forward to coming back later in the season. I will also leave the water to check inland for possible drywashing areas that may have already been established. I cannot call this claim done until I properly explore it. I remain optimistic. Until then, heavy pans my friends.

      I have to fix that video but dont know how. The trail by the left picnic table was treed in. Go to the right picnic table then trail goes to the left. My newer video. Crevicing/panning explains that.
      Good luck out there. Go further down the river. Looking at GPS the river opens up and bends a bit. I'll be checking that out my next trip

    I tried this claim a few months ago because it is close to home. The water levels were a bit lower, but it looked mostly the same. People have tried digging under the huge rocks to the point that it looked really sketchy. I waded around in the water and sampled some spots and had pretty much the same results you did. I found one tiny spec of gold that I didn't even bother saving. Still trying to find someplace to go in SD county.

      Honestly I'd reccomend going prospecting in the east fork of the San Gabriel River. It's worth the travel time if you camp as well.

      That sounds great. I'm thinking about checking the Himalaya claim. I belive that's the name of it. In the GPAA site there is no reviews or information about it. Might have to place a comment in a forum to get a little insight. But I'll definitely get up with you as I'm getting closer to going. Thanks.

      Hahaha. I agree. That claim was said to have a little gold. Perhaps it was further downstream. I only went so far. The trail disappeared by the water. I'm not sure if nature reclaimed it with the heavy rains that year.
      Either way I wasn't going back but it is still worth a try for other prospectors who are willing to properly check the entire claim.

    Hey San Diego guy here too! Thanks for showing this claim, I’ve been thinking about going there but the few reviews I’ve read, said it was borderline dangerous to get down to the water. It didn’t appear that bad from what you showed. How did accessibility seem to you? Do you ever go metal detecting for gold?

    • @weekendprospector9787
      @weekendprospector9787  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not hard to get to but unfortunately, it's not worth the time. I've had no success and the water is basically seasonal. Rainy season is fine but even then when you get to the water there isn't a trail.
      Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time trying that claim if I were you.

    Hey weekend ,nice video. I would say that your sluice is to short for the flow volume and all of the material was getting blown out. Besides you should try to classify the pay first. I bet that area is holding nice Gold.slow down the sluice flow and get a 48 or 52 in sluice . You will land more Gold.

Check out the video that I posted titled “Can the Angus MacKirk catch fine gold.” The answer is “Yes. Lots of it.” He broke rule number one: “You have to mine where the gold is.”

      I remember that trip. I did have my sluice running hot. Besides the amount of dirt I was feeding, I needed to slow it down. I knew very fine flour gold would just blow out. I should have mentioned that. I was just trying to find color. If I would have seen some color I would have reset better and slowed down.
