so interesting to stumble upon this video today, around three years since it was made. Our family have been going to Haga for the past += 120 years. Dad was a fisherman and used to catch them by the bag full. Grandfather used to catch cob near Black Rock. All on red bait I think. I have collected mussels near where you fished at Pullens Bay - may I suggest that you smoke them.......best mussels I have ever tasted and very easy to cook! (and thanks for the info re different baits)
yah what a great place to fish..been there myself a lot of times and used to stay there...caught some huge silvers on the other side at marsh strand and even at haga haga some blues..big blues there at that spot..well done boys keep it up!!!
Another Epic adventure. The walk to the fishing spot was hectic. Even I felt a little tired after that. Some nice techniques shown. Collecting dirt, or only leaving footprints , is the way to go. However, over dressing the mussels and over seasoning the fish hides the natural fresh taste. Salt, pepper and lemon is the only seasonings in my arsenal. Thanx for a great video.
Thanks for the comments. Looking forward to seeing you comments on the carp and barble videos at Gariepdam. Episode 1 is out. episode 2 comes out next week. Let us know if you wuold like up to make a video on a specific species . Cameraman and dad
I have tried extremely to locate mike so far unsuccessfully. Thanks for you comments. Give your Comments on the next two. Barble and carp at gariep dam. Cameraman and dad
These are East London boitjies ... they use the same naming convention as I do ... bluefish, silver steenbras .... and pignose grunter instead of wit steenbras
When you butterfly (vlek) a fish you must open it from the dorsal fin side. Do not gut it from the bottom. When you braai a fresh fish like that you only want a bit of salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon when it's cooked. All you are going to taste is fish spice and garlic....... as for the mayonnaise and salad dressing. You guys have been watching too much Masterchef.
