I figure it was cooler to be gone-gone and back-back than try and leave breadcrumbs like "Guys I'll be back to posting normally soon!" a million times (I've done this in the past) and just chip away at any audience trust, but I have a ton of ideas in the cannon. Will just need to do these kinda lighter edit styles on em. Doing some easy ones first. But it's gonna take a min to rebuild. And I get that!

I have been a major fan of Riley Green ever since the video for "You Look Like You Love Me" came out. I loved his chill vibe and tongue-in-cheek delivery. Then I found "Jesus Saves" and was gutted by the story. But it's really "Don't Mind if I Do" that's hit me hard. The simple irony of the lyrics and the truth in the story telling are amazing. And of course, it's got Ella doing what she does best.

It’s so fun with Zach Top, I won tickets in Houston last year at the World BBQ Championships to see him at a local radio station tent who started playing him, and now he’s playing to a show that only has resale tickets available at the Rodeo this year. I love seeing his growth!
Also with Riley Green, I have seen him twice in recent years and now seeing him gain his dues is nice!

Good hearing from you. Think Wyatt Flores should be included in this group. 2024 was a fantastic year for new country. Absolutely enjoyed it, and made a Playlist about 500 songs deep from the year. Loved it, and all of these artists are on it several times, and most of them weren't hits... yet? Appreciate you, Grady. Hope you're doing well, and hope to hear from you again soon. Take care.

Now he's TRULY back folks! Love this video ... probably because all of these artists have taken up permanent residence in my playlists and preferences. I feel like those of us who know Sam Barber are sort of in on the best secret that no one knows about just yet. And YES YES YES ... The Coastal Plain was just, in my mind, the absolute best album of 2024. MB is so talented and they work so hard but they're so down to earth and grounded. They're just so real ... I find myself going back to that album over and over and over (and as a Sturgill fan you would think it would be Passage du Desir ... but it's a very close second). I just hope MB gets everything they're due. And thank GOD terrestrial radio is not our only outlets these days. Glad you're back Grady!

I know sometimes ppl may look at us in a bad light but I always thank you for keeping us in the conversation. I still feel we’re very important in the conversation of country music.
Furthermore working in radio I also wanted to throw a few more in there. Bailey Zimmerman has had a slew of monster hits over the past couple of years. Nate Smith as well. Drew Baldridge & even Parker McCollum. I would say those guys will one day be the A-Listers. Thanks again Grady! Glad to see you back

Given our collective attention span continuing to shrink, it's hard for me to imagine anyone ever rivaling George Strait in terms of both mainstream career longevity and total #1s. I think we're just going to continue to see increasing erratic rise and falls from here on out for the most part as far as power rankings are concerned with a few notable exceptions each decade that hold up longer.
The names I most agree with making the A-list (at least for a while) are Cody Johnson and (soon enough) Zach Top. I'd actually argue Cody Johnson is pretty much already there although I think part of the authentic definition of making the A-list is to prove your consistency and viability across several commercial cycles minimum. I also think Zach Top is looked at as this generation's Alan Jackson, so he has that going for him in a huge way moving forward.
I'm skeptical on Ella Langley joining the A-list. Her breakthrough album is solid, but I'm not yet convinced she has that X-factor that's going to help her stick around. I think "you look like you love me" broke out as it did more on the accessibility and resonance of the song itself than from either her or Green.
I respectfully disagree with Riley Green joining the A-list. I think he's much more likely to remain another Justin Moore: who rarely lights up the charts in a big way or has much in the way of crossover appeal but also remains a steady reliable singles chart presence.
I'm not familiar with Sam Barber's discography at all so I need to listen to more of his material before I formulate an opinion on him.

      @@GradySmith Awwwwwwwww thanks, you're sooooooo kind! 🙂
I just realized I forgot to mention my take on Shaboozey. I honestly think his label made a big mistake not releasing "Let It Burn" as the direct follow-up to "A Bar Song". That was BY FAR his best bet at a second hit off of his breakthrough album. I do like "Highway" in that it sounds more straight-up country compared to the majority of tracks on the record, but it doesn't sound particularly radio-friendly to my ears. Same story with the (at least so far) stand-alone single "Good News". You can tell by its production and style that they're somewhat likening it as a sibling to "A Bar Song" with the processed handclaps and so forth, but it sounds comparatively more restrained and easy-listening to me and I just don't think it's as accessible as "Let It Burn" always has been. So I critique the single release strategy, but I definitely still hope he sticks around in the mainstream because his breakthrough parent album is really strong front to back even with the several tracks that really aren't country-sounding at all like in "Drink Don't Need No Mix" 🙂
One other thing I'll add is that, now that Zach Bryan has had a rough last handful of months image-wise due to the fallout with his acrimonious breakup with Brianna Chickenfry................I'd keep a close eye on not just Sam Barber like you mentioned, but also Wyatt Flores, if they can successfully fill that vacuum (Bryan could still very well remain a chart force for at least a bit longer, but in light of the controversies I think the opportunity for those who have a similar style to him to explode in the coming months is very real) and grow much more dominant from here on out.

The bar song is even playing in France, which is shocking . More and more country songs are being played and no one knows it's country.

On the topic of Riley - also felt like he didn’t really release any new music for 4 years, at least not in a meaningful, needle-moving way. Then he comes out of nowhere this year and blows it out of the water. Some of the best songs were written by him alone, no other writers. Guy has been holding his cards tight to his chest… glad he’s finally letting us see em.

Cole Goodwin has been supporting Zach's shows a lot lately; I think that he will be coming up sooner than later.

    I would add Megan Moroney…
She’s got an army of fans and even if she ventures with a little bit of pop, she’ll be big, man!

@@Tick-Checker arguably a venture (not too much) into pop would only help her case. We’ve seen it with Morgan Wallen who has some more countryish stuff to appease the country folks then more pop stuff to appeal to the mainstream

I do think that Parker McCollum and Wyatt Flores deserve at least a shoutout

It’s about time the PNW got some love in country music! Zach Top’s breakthrough is so refreshing for many reasons

I feel like with streaming platforms it’s really not that important to have giant radio hits anymore because if people like a song it’s gonna blow up whether radio wants it to or not.

Has he been on country radio yet? I haven't heard him in the Bay Area (which I'll admit has terrible country radio)
