"Mean" Gene Okerlund interivews Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Roddy Piper, "Cowboy" Bob Orton and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan about upcoming matches in Oakland in early 1985.
Being from Oakland, these promos really, really do it for me. I attended many, many shows at the Oakland Coliseum back in the day. Wonderful, magical times back then. Miss this era of wrestling so much. Those localized promos were always amazing too.
Good promo by The Hammer, surprisingly - telling Chico he's going to have him cleaning out a Taco Bell 😂. Saw a shoot with Greg Valentine. Seems like an awesome guy and unlike most other wrestlers he didn't say one bad thing about any of his fellow wrestlers
Truly, truly two of the lost arts of wrestling The Promo and the manager. Sure we have "pipe bombs" and the odd manager but for the most part it's gone.
Going to a house show in the 80's for the WWF was awesome. I usually went there wound up with a few friends or my cousin. 3 hrs of a great friggen time. And in Chicago they were in the suburbs and on a Saturday usually. Oh the babe fest there to OW!!!! Girls with barley much on lol
Orton's voice is so cool... That's something you don't hear in wrestling anymore; those big, distinctive, intimidating voices. Gee, I miss these days. Anyone else feel that the absence of managers is affecting the quality of today's wrestling. it just seems to be one of the missing elements that made it work: A guy has no personality, so what, stick him with a witty , cocky, loud mouth & all he has to do is get it done in the ring. I think some careers in WWE could have been salvaged this way..?
Ace is here ,and he's never been afraid of nothing! Any chance I can talk to him? To Ace ? hehehehe, Justa second. You wanna talk to anybody ? hahahaha..Love Love, Love.
80's wrestling was more entertaining because everything seemed real. The trash talk was realistic. Racist to a degree and personal. That's how you got proper heat. You insult people, a culture or whatever it takes to get people to hate you. In today's day and age the only person I see getting "heat" is Vicki Guerrero because of her annoying ass voice and screaming. Piper, Hammer and Heenan showed what it truly takes to be a heel. Culture is different today I get it, but this IS wrestling!
"Hulkamania is going right down the Bemis, and I'm going to be the one to pull the handle." - that was just one line from that monster scud that heenan dropped on hogan
i was 8 years old when this was taped and watching wwf all the time. in my opinion, todays wwe product lacks the excitement that the 80's delivered. i think saturation has a role, but i think the characters today are less appealing.
If they would have given the Hammer a better gimmick and Heenan instead of Hart he would have been a great world champion because as far as matches go he's never had a dud that I've seen.
Lol @ greg valentine callin Tito.Santana a punk . Ha and piper and Bobby H . wit da whesal skin classic WWF MISS IT. FROM 85 to 93 classic . Attitude era changed da game.
Damn guys I posted this almost 13 years ago. We have sadly lost Piper, Mean Gene and Bobby in this time. Bob Orton and Greg Valentine are still with us. But damn Ric Flair still being alive in 2022 was not on my bingo card!
"...white sock, 8-5 clock-punchin' humanoids...." Heenan is one of the funniest man I have ever seen anywhere.
IF SOME ONE CAN SHOW ME FUNNIER PROMO'S THAN BOBBY HEENAN ....I LIKE TO SEE IT ....GOLD ...PURE GOLD
Heenan is a LEGEND and is one of the best ever.
Man I miss regional promos like these. Back when wrestling was worth watching.
True. I grew up with the 06-07 era. This is in another level.
Can’t stop watching promos from this era what a characters! Hahahah

The Hammer, pure wrestling gold. "Sweeping out Taco Bell"
Gene really had to keep it together after Bobby made that dumbell joke - he almost cracked, LLLOOOLLL !!! ...
"you look like the guy that was peeping over the walls"... LOL!
This whole segment is CLASSIC!! takes me back to my childhood...I love it!!!!!!
You know who's stronger than Hogan? His Mother! You try and raise that dumbbell! That weasel never gets old!
Please let wrestling be like this again! The match didn't even matter when the Brain, was in town.
It'll never happen. Guys like Mean Gene and The Brain don't exist anymore.
2 wrestling icons rest in peace Mean Gene
Heenan and heel Piper interviews, it doesn't get any better.
The Brain was in a class all by himself. The best period.
ah maybe take that period and make it "in my opinion "
Watched a shoot interview of his.awesome
@@_1ben The thing is that he's right, the Brain was the Best!
"you try to raise that dumbbell"! LMAO
LMFAOOOOO "Imma send you back to Mexico sweeping Taco Bell" 😭😭😭
The politically incorrect
1980s
Can't make that joke today ha ha ha ha ha
The good old 80s.
White-sock, 8-5 clock punchers! Classic!
Please God, for just one day let me be as good at my job as Bobby Heenan was at his all the time
"I don't need any smart remarks from you Mr. Gene Okerland."
Back to Mexico sweeping at taco bell. Love it!! Best promo ever!
3:56: "Hulkamania's goin right down the Beemis!" LOL
Bobby was spot on with that statement!
Ace and Harley Race both sounded like they ate ashtrays for lunch. Very distinctive.
I'm from Fiji, and I must say, Piper really has our number!
get off the Internet, and string some beads for me boy!
Cowboy Bob was a great heel and a dang great wrestler to boot!
Mean Gene is possibly the greatest MC of all time - - why has he never done the Oscars?
Truly, truly two of the lost arts of wrestling
The Promo and the manager.
Sure we have "pipe bombs" and the odd manager but for the most part it's gone.
"He wears a size medium t shirt to make him look bigger"
Classic promo's!
You know the promo is going to be epic when they threaten mean gene
another classic piper and heenan promos.
I used to have the same coat Heenan is wearing. It really was a fox collar.
END OF FILE

HAPPY 1985 EVERYBODY :)!!
Bobby is the greatest
Roddy Piper is the greatest villain ever.
Master of the figure four with the shin guard.

Do they even have Taco Bell in Mexico?
You try to raise that Dumbbell lol
3:57 did Heenan just say "right down the beavis"? Is that where his name came from!?
He said, right down the Beamis. Beamis is a brand of toilets. Every time I see a Beamis toilet I think of The Brain.
He said bemis which I believe is another word for toilet.
I do not believe they have Taco Bell down in Mexico Greg.
@SaraBayPro Fun to watch Okerlund trying not to laugh at Heenan's joke.
"He's my bodyguard. His name's Ace." LOL
Ace is here ,and he's never been afraid of nothing! Any chance I can talk to him? To Ace ? hehehehe, Justa second. You wanna talk to anybody ? hahahaha..Love Love, Love.
Man, I love Valentine's shirt :D
What's wrong with Orton? His arm's not broken.
Piper imitating grandma ma Snuka. Lmao 😂
Today's "wrestlers" need to study promos like these.

Roddy Piper da man!
If they would have given the Hammer a better gimmick and Heenan instead of Hart he would have been a great world champion because as far as matches go he's never had a dud that I've seen.
Greg Valentine is probably the greatest wrestler to never win a world championship.
this is kinda of out of character for bobby. he wouldnt wear something like that! I like him in suit and tie and of course the sequuence (sp) coats
OPERATION: VVETBACK II 2019!🔥
Hulkamania is gonna to be going right down the Beamis. Beamis is a cheap brand of toilet. Lol
Look Orton's forearm isn't broke, what?
Do we need more proof that Rowdy Roddy and Cowboy Bob were wrestling's first openly gay couple?
Lol @ greg valentine callin Tito.Santana a punk . Ha and piper and Bobby H . wit da whesal skin classic WWF MISS IT. FROM 85 to 93 classic . Attitude era changed da game.
lol!!
Freedom of Speech.
Piper thought he was good on mike but was just annoying
tna and wannabe wwe wrestlers, take note, you need cut promos like these guys!!!
no valentine, no matter how much you scream, you will never be the "master of figure fore leg lock" you cheap imitator.
Greg was one of the best with the figure four. Him and Ric Flair
He broke Wahoo's leg.
Damn guys I posted this almost 13 years ago. We have sadly lost Piper, Mean Gene and Bobby in this time. Bob Orton and Greg Valentine are still with us. But damn Ric Flair still being alive in 2022 was not on my bingo card!
Bobby was King!
