Thanks, yes I had over 10 of my gadget caches stolen, this was one of them. At one point I was so discouraged I thought of throwing in the towel, but I'm glad I didn't. All my stolen caches are back up, hopefully over the next few months I can start putting out some new caches. I have lots of ideas!!!
Another awesome gadget cache! I love watching your videos, and I remember reading something about several of your caches being stolen (even so far as to having been ripped out of the ground). I'm glad to see that you're driving on with your awesome work!!
Pete, insects could come up the slot in the post, but for some reason I haven't had that problem. I did spray the inside of the container with and insect repellant before I added the motor into the cache. That might help to deter them a little. I also caulk the edges on inside.
Very cool. Would love to put some of these around here in Western MA. Great job! I look forward to viewing more of your vids. I wish I had the drill machines that you have lol.
hello tim if you want anti theft screws than you shud use torx hollow tip screws and bits or triangular hollow tips those are very hard to get by unless you are a type of builder that knows what it is and where to bye good luck and keep making those awesome caches
theres one similar near me but instead of using a AA battery thats provided at the cache location, you need to use jumper cables and connect it to your car battery to push out a micro container attached to a antenna
This is great!! Haven't really cached for a year and came across your channel, now the ideas are flowing. How does this cache do in cold weather, I live in Canada and its consistently cold here in the winter.
+Brent Ingram Appears the one at adafruit needs a min of 4.5 v. One AA only gives you 1.5 v. I only use the one AA because its easy to hide the connections.
As an addition you could provide some cables at the geo cache but without an instruction on how to use them. Use only torx screws to assemble the cache with the exception of one slotted screw (-) and one phillips screw (+). You have to inspect all the screws and connect the cables with the batterie to the right ones in order to unlock the cage :D
Hard to explain, but dowel is tight, but with pressure it can spin. If not, it would burn the engine up. Mine has been out for years now and been found thousands of time and is still working well.
Hi! Have you ever got a gadget cache of yours destroyed or taken down by someone? Because im worried that when i make my first gadget cache someone i going to destroy it! ;(
+Peteris Kalniņš Yes, that can happen. Yes, I have had some destroyed. One reason I like birdhouses, they can be placed in busy areas making them less likely to be vandalized. A cache hidden out of sight I believe makes it more likely to vandalism. Also, I develop a relationship with many of my businesses, they almost take ownership of the cache, so they watch out for "their" cache. I make mine premium only, that might help a little. Nothing you do can prevent vandalism. It's just like a travel bug... don't put it out if you can handle losing it.

Super cool! Might have to have my husband build one!

Nice cache, thanks for posting.
very well done as always! I can only dream of having the time to re-create your caches!
Awesome idea!

That’s so creative! Very well done!
What a great Idea! We'll try to build a motorized cache too ;-)
Unterwegs Good luck in your build, let me know if you have any questions.
Again.... an awsome one !!!
Great work!

Yes, I'm very familiar with a cache like that. I have a video on how to do it, it was posted years ago. thanks for watching.
Very nice!
You have inspired me!
good morning . Do you have the connection plants for this cache?
This is great!! Haven't really cached for a year and came across your channel, now the ideas are flowing. How does this cache do in cold weather, I live in Canada and its consistently cold here in the winter.
+Brent Ingram no, won't be a bit of a problem in the cold, because the cacher brings there own "fresh" batteries. The motor will work with no problem.
+gadgetcaches do you think this www.adafruit.com/products/711 motor work as well as the one in the video? Seems like a cheaper option.

How much did it cost?
You are a legend!
Im glad you use your smarts for good.. :-)
The solaworm is not available in amazon anymore. Can someone tell me what kind of motor is that so I can buy one?
Don't think so, really just a country bumpkin who loves to build caches that are fun to solve.

That is a brilliant idea. Wish I had thought of that one. Thanks for sharing, I might use that idea the next time.
Glad you liked the idea, feel free to make good use of it.
Do you cement the post in the ground?
No, I dig my holes with a post hole digger. Of course I always ask for permission.
How do you get the post into the ground?
I got permission from the owner to place the post. I just dug a hole with my post hole digger.
do you have any geocaches in huntington wv 25705 or think about putting any?
Too cool!!
How does this spin if the dowel is loose?
Hard to explain, but dowel is tight, but with pressure it can spin. If not, it would burn the engine up. Mine has been out for years now and been found thousands of time and is still working well.
nice
Switzerland has now also for searching and testing this cache ....
Good, you will have to let me know how it goes.
i make a Video from this Key is the Key.....
Did you need permission for a cache like this, thinking of placing a geocache a bit like this?
+Matthew Issell Of course all caches require permission to place. Because I placed a 4x4 post, I worked closely with the land owner for this one.

I was thinking that I would put wood putty on top of the screws, sand it down, and then paint over it.
cool
gotta love their accents
It makes me sad you have to do things to prevent some jerks from trying to steal your caches.
200th comment!
