@@Veezyjung true, I’ve gotta say I’ve been extremely critical of Romero since the daikatana days but both sigils definitely show that when you throw him into the doom engine, he can do some great stuff
@@harrylane4 the problem with Daikatana was John Carmack wasn't there to bring Romero down to reality. Romero has always been the big dreamer with his head in the clouds, he needs someone like Carmack to give him a reality check.
the whole track feels like you're fighting your way up piston stairs on an impossibly huge hell-castle made of machines for the sole purpose of making Revenants and Cyberdemons, shotgunning anything stupid enough to pop out and take a potshot at you
It works SO WELL with how frantic the first level can feel too. That damn first room with you surrounded by imps and spectres, shotgun in front of you? Damn, that's how you start an episode
I have nothing but love and respect for Buckethead, but this is THE soundtrack to SIGIL. Just absolutely incredible work from start to finish, thank you James Paddock!
In my opinion this surpasses most of Prince’s work, considering most of it was, let’s say, “heavily inspired” by contemporary metal bands from the time. I do love “Imp Song” and “Deep into the Code”, though, even though the latter is clearly an arrangement of “Behind the Crooked Cross”
This really gives me "main theme" vibes (apart from the main menu's). I love it, as iconic as At the Doom Gate and Running from Evil. I love the catchiness.
Though I don't listen to your MIDI soundtracks as often, you are definitely a certified MIDI master! I just want to stay in E5M1 because of this soundtrack alone.
I played and finished Sigil today, and when I first heard this banger... Not only did I know the WAD was gonna be great, but so the soundtrack. Seriously it's awesome!!!
When this song starts you can picture in your head Romero grinning at the idea of putting cacodemons all over in your cocky ultra violence first run "I'm gonna make you my bitch"
How did you come up with this? Even the intro, it's so odd, the way the first bar (? I don't know music theory) is shorter than the other 3. It's fantastic, either way. Truly deserving of being the first level. I was wondering whether or not to play Sigil, and then as soon as this music hit I was just shocked at how instantly I was 100% invested. Thanks so much!
Good sir, recently I started watching your WAD review videos and enjoyed how in-depth they are, today for some reason I wanted to listen to Sigil's soundtrack and realized the name is familiar and that YOU composed it. Man, I can't tell you how much on spot the OST is and how much it enhances the Sigil experience. I hope you return for Sigil 2. Cheers!
Superior to Buckethead OST imo. They did good music, but all tracks have one same mood. Your music makes the player feel the hype, and feel the strength of Doomguy.
I’m getting into midi composition and you are definitely one of the main reasons, (besides my general love of doom), I like using Guitar Pro 8…do you have any thoughts on whether that program is well suited for making midis of this calendar?
I'm only vaguely familiar with Guitar Pro but I've definitely seen it used for serious compositional work and demoing. If it suits you it should be a good starting point!
I must ask, was this title a reference to nine inch nails pretty hate machine? Givin that there is a nine inch nails logo in one of the classic doom levels and trent himself doing the quake sound track.
Possibly my favorite Doom midi ever, iwad or otherwise. I especially appreciate the sneaky modulation from Cminor to Fminor in the middle. Key changes that aren't obvious are one of my favorite things ever. Love your work! Grateful to hear such great music! [edit] dammit my comment took the number of comments from 66 to the much less appropriate 67. grrr.
If you guys can make it happen you need to play this MIDI score through a hardware synth with General MIDI capabilities. I run a MOTU micro express MIDI interface into a Roland JV-1080 Super JV 64-Voice Synthesizer and when you play wads in GZDoom, you can pick your hardware for sound. I'm sure the newer GM synths sound really cool.
Too much work. Optimal results with the "generic" soundfont scc1t2.sf2 (a clone of the classic Roland SC 55 also known as Microsoft Synthtable or something like that, included with Windows 95 98 and XP) You can usually tell it's the right one when the filesize is 3.30 MB
I would definitely love to hear this soundtrack done with a more modern soundfont... as well as a replicated Yamaha soundchip soundfont, like the Genesis/Megadrive one. ... I love hearing songs done with modern and more retro instrumentations...
Scoring the official unofficial last episode of DOOM must be an honour.
You have no idea :P Regardless of how official or unofficial it is!
@@JamesPaddockMusic You did it justice in numerous ways. Hate Machine is one of the best midis ever made.
id say its official, i mean john romero himself fuckin made it, itd be heresy to say it isnt.
@@blehh_mae Romero himself calls it unofficial. It's unofficial.
@@kianpfannenstiel Hell Yeah it’s unofficially official.
When you start playing Sigil and first song you listen is Hate Machine, you can be sure a GREAT soundtrack awaits for you in every level
oh yes......
And when you start playing Sigil and are greeted with Hate Machine, you know Romero's thrown down some fantastic levels.

This competes with At Doom's Gates and Sign Of Evil. So damn good.
No, it surpasses both. It only stands eye-to-eye with I Sawed The Demons.

By no means a little thing. Prince's adaptation of said song is excellent.

It works SO WELL with how frantic the first level can feel too.

Still my favorite MIDI song ever alongside Sign of Evil.

For sure. The Buckethead OST has some good tracks, but good damn these MIDI tracks just hit on another level. So good.
Bobby Prince must be proud of your work, I've just started to play Sigil and how glad I was to be welcomed with this fantastic piece!
This composition is one of the best of the best music tracks for DooM ever.. It sounds on par with Bobby Prince's compositions.
No, no, no. It surpasses Prince's body of work by a nautical mile.

I play Sigil on era-appropriate hardware in vanilla doom (albeit with limit removal patch).
You won't believe how awesome this tune sounds on OPL3!
Can you pls render it for us?
