Brilliant video. I am 6 months in on my waterbox peninsula mini 25. This is my first reef tank and I am absolutely loving it. I also don't run a skimmer yet. Your zoa's and scolly are looking amazing. Look forward to the update on this one.
What a great frag tank. I like how you've taken on the challenge, to do things a little differently - bare bottom and no skimmer, but KH keeper and Clarisea. Corals are looking really nice, especially the Zoa's. Those Nero's look really tempting. Can't wait to see how it develops. Really enjoyed watching. 👍
Cheers Jay. If you'd like any of the zoas, dm me and I'll send you a freebie. I like the Neros but I find them WAY less powerful than the various Jecods I've used! Glad to hear your torch is doing well 👌
Looking good coming on nicely I like them Red Sea lights I have 3 off them on my 425 Red Sea and have no problems growing out corals lps and sps , keep them updates coming and I also run tunze lights in my refugium and great little lights 👍
Nice to see it going well. I switched my skimmer on for half an hour on my frag 55.2 as I thought I had more suspended stuff then I liked, it does pick some stuff up but like you, I am having to dose both Phosphate and Nitrate. That Nyos stuff is brill, should last a lifetime in that tank lol.
Did you go sand free because you only need to take water out during water change? Otherwise need to clean the sand? This is also a question I have, if someone does have a sand bed, do we need to stir and syphone the sand bed or just water change enough? Even if the sand bed is pure white?
No, I went bare bottom to make it easier to crank the flow up and blow any detritus away. I'm too lazy to clean sand beds so I never do it! In theory, you should syphon it regularly - if it's clean on the surface, I bet it'll still pull out a load of brown dust when you syphon...
I used to have a marine tank, but as a beginner chose very hard fish, very hard coral, and ended up overfeedng. This caused so many problems like algae and cyanobacteria, that I took it down. I now have a choice wether to go Freshwater with a casual tank, or back to saltwater, however It would be a very casual tank. Should I go Salty, as thats what I would rather do, but I'm worried it will turn back into pain and frustration with non stop algae issues
@@ReefDork Yeah I think so, I did't I had the light on for 12 hours a day. What would you say the best way of removing briopsis and algae off of my old rock and tank is?
Hey Alex, removed my skimmer from my system because my nutrients were consistently to low. I’m running roller too. Iv noticed my PH has dropped from 8.2 all day long to 7.6-7-8 all day. What’s the ph like in your frag tank VS the Reefer?
Wow, that's low. I tested at first and mine peaked at 8.3, but I disconnected the pH meter so can't tell you what it is now. You could put the skimmer back on and feed more or add more fish?
Looks great 👍 what water vat you use and can you do a video of that setup. I’m looking to do one myself but not sure where to start. Thanks and happy reefing
Got it from www.tanks-direct.co.uk/water-tanks/water-tanks-by-capacity/1-100-litres/c959. I think it's a 100 litre vat - I just put a pump in to mix the salt, then let it sit until water change time 🙂
Question for you. I put in dual returns like you have and did exactly like your setup. A split barbed Y. How do you keep the flow from going out the suction of the other pump if the other dies?
This tank is in my home office so I want to cut out any unnecessary noise, no matter how quiet... And there isn't space for a skimmer and a refugium, so I had to choose one 🙂
Yep. I sell them on Ultimate Reef - here's an example of what I'm currently selling - www.ultimatereef.net/threads/nice-cheap-zoas-postage-available.898515/

So this is sort of a display, sort of a frag tank? Very cool!
Exactly that!

@@ReefDork Yeah I think so, I did't I had the light on for 12 hours a day. What would you say the best way of removing briopsis and algae off of my old rock and tank is?
A feather duster!! I recently spotted one of those on a frag I purchased and didn't know what it was! So it's a good thing and not a pest??
Yeah, they're just cool filter feeders. Totally harmless and a great example of the variety of awesome animals that show up in a reef tank!

Great reefing. You were hiding this for 4 months....
There is definitely such thing as too many snails. If there isn't enough food for them, then you have too many snails lol.
Snails reproduce according to available food.
No food little reproduction.
Overfeed for a while.
Population explodes.
Ha ha bare bottom that was funny
I run 2 gallon no skimmer. You really don't need it and you really don't need to do water changes.
I'm way too early!
