Sampha - "Plastic 100°C" (Live Performance)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 มิ.ย. 2016
- Sampha details his debut album, and all the learning and personal trauma that accompanied its creation, in a new The FADER cover story, to be published on The FADER today at 10 a.m. EST.
“Plastic 100°C,” a beautifully raw song about pressure, is one of that album's highlights. Its chorus refers to feeling like plastic melting in the heat, and one of its verses hints at the source of the discomfort Sampha describes: Usually I'd run home/ And tuck the issue under/ Oh/ Sleeping with my worries/ I didn't really know what that lump was/ My luck.
Here, Sampha plays a singular acoustic version of that song. His performance was captured in one beautiful take at dusk, on the rooftop of his label Young Turks’s London office.
“There’s a lot I see, feel, really want to express,” Sampha tells The FADER. “I think that’s part of the thing, like - I feel so much.” In his most in-depth interview to date, he opens up about the journey he's been on, the music he'll be releasing, and his hopes for the future. “I wanna make things feel more magic to me, like how I felt when I was younger. When you grow older, you try and work harder to find the magic in life.”

Sampha, most underrated/underappreciated global singer right now.
Ethan Henry hes been a great help past few weeks
Khalid up there.
2 years later he still is , it's sad
@@ibieiniid4240 but I'd get behind what the OP said. As for khalid? On a global scale? Idk I think your opinion got in the way there bud
@@cuddy8079 idk what that means
This is the kind of song that obliterates playlists. You don't want to over play it, but nothing else sounds good after this ..stuck! Masterpiece ❤️.
Thie. Begining and the "you don't know what a scarecrow is" and this South London train.part made this session legendary..this should the sound for a Luther season...
Sampha's come to save us from Frank Ocean's cruelty.
Frank's dropping this month
Don't believe his lies.
MrMoonwear from his website boysdontcry.co/blogs/posts/late
Hardly any confirmation.
DON'T BELIEVE HIS LIES.
Friday !
Sampha slowly becoming one of my favorite artists. Timmy's Prayer is one of the best songs i've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
facts
happens
abeautifulhaze I just watched Timmy prayer oh my goodness the 1st I heard I wasnt feeling because I was in the wrong mood cuz I just heard this song n some his live so I get up the later the next day I was TH-cam bumping I wasn't looking at the fone n the auto-play just played anotha song I had to flip the fone over man my shit was erupting 🌋🔥🔥🔥like a Samsung 7 now I can't get the 🔥out of my mind I replayed it bout 7x in a row I'm so glad I found some new 🔥 just look at the length of my comments.. thank you
abeautifulhaze timmys prayer, blood on me , and fault reverse are legendary
he's always been bomb where u beeeeeennn????
It’s in the middle of 2020 and I’m still here 😫🙌🏼
I love it here.
My favorite place
met him for a brief moment after a gig with sbtrkt about 2 years ago and i can honestly say he's the most modest guy! told him he was amazing & his response 'you realise I'm not sbtrkt right?' man sbtrkts album would have been nothing without sampha
agree. all of my favorite SBTRKT tracks feature Sampha.
totally agreed
real talk! he made it what it is.. only reason I listen to that album is because of him... and jessie ware but mainly him lol
Agree. I like a lot the production made by sbtrkt but since they don't collab anymore, sbtrkt has fallen down... sampha is the talent
Bonnor Caker a memory for life
His voice is absolutely angelic and beautiful. So unique. And how that mic drowned out so much of the background noise without a pop filter I don't know.
I was thinking the same thing
It's a cardoid mic probably. also it has a foam cover over the whole thing. Also a pop filter doesn't do shit to remove background noise I have no idea where you got that idea. A pop filter is used to smooth some of the harsh vowels like P, K or something
Kabalyst My fault I recalled incorrectly. Thanks for the correction. Any advice for a blue snowball mic to help reduce background noise even further?
microphone is a shure sm7b cardioid
Fab filter Pro - G
I love the end of this performance when he says "up & away" as the train goes by. Perfect timing.
All 💘 that love
divine timing
I wish I could express myself musically this way 😭 the chords progressions, notes, etc., everything beautifully expresses/articulates pain. This is art for sure.
sameeee
You can learn
The beautiful thing about music is that you will learn to express yourself musically in your own way, that no one else can replicate
I have to come back to this every so often ....to cry. To be in awe...to just experience what I felt when I first heard this. This is more than music to me. This is healing me with each listen....thank you, Sampha.
Me and one my best friends used to sit in a parking lot after a day's worth of hanging out and would just blast this song and smoke a couple newports when we were 18 or so...man as depressed as I was back then I do miss those days..imma come back and visit you soon dog
kinda same. this song literally holds a special place in my soul. sometimes i find it crazy that i've come out of that really bad mentality. im better now but still going through life as it is :) we all miss those days but i hope u dont visit that depressive state again. u may embrace or reminisce but anything is better than being sad and empty, all the best to u
Wow, his voice sounds exactly like the song 😭
God I hate that fact that him, Solange, Brymo and so many others arent at the awards and being praised as much as the ones I think suck ass, their messages are pure and I just love it and fear they will die out, I will need to buy their albums to have forever even in death, just toss it in my casket
- - bitch make me
Lucy Matters hopefully we will start supporting independent radio that plays this type of music
Lucy Matters oh my god finally someone called Brymo!......i thought i was the only one who noticed his undeniable talents
+Michael Watkins True. People need to start creating platforms because the way the media is right now if you're a talented minority waiting for appreciation you're going to be waiting forever.
Fade Away tune in to my radio show #theartofdressingawoman #tadawr
the way that he starts singing just as the train passes is so satisfying
Somewhere you're housing my pain.
deep
this dude got me picking up the piano again.
Cris Mike SAME
Cris Mike damn you must be swole af
Hella swole
Same i am gona get one again
Good job♥️🙏
Look how Sampha is moving. He hear much much more than only the piano
Yes, the train
@@mugmugmugtattoo haha XD noooo
Correct!
The way he went in and out of that falsetto @ 2:27
Vocal ability unmatched.
I can't believe I only found this in 2019
same. 2022 for me. im mad late
Same.2023 for me🥲
Give him time and he will be the best artist out there
without a doubt
he already is for me :)
Kanyeislife that's what's wrong with today, people think artist need to be the best or ranked higher then someone else. If he really wanted to he could be on the radio and a sell out. But he actually cares about the music and it doesn't matter if he is the best as long as he keeps making beautiful music
lol yall only posed to watch the dam shit evryone knows this shit is beautiful
DAMN RIGHT
Sampha and Thundercat should make music
pass this around to everybody
Yessss
Yassssss
That train couldn't have been planned. Went by perfectly at the end.
tbh i wouldn't be mad if they played this at my funeraL.
Wallo brought me here and I’m hella grateful ! I never realized he was the voice I’ve heard on some of my favorite albums in the past 🤯
mad chills
Ah bah vous êtes là vous bande d'enfoirés
Still mad chills 4 year's later
MAD CHILLS indeedy. This is art for sure.
Juuuure les 2 goats sur tout les coups
[Verse 1]
Magnetic lights in the blue-high haze
A magnifying glass upon my face
It's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away
[Verse 2]
I loved those mornings, when the suns up
Smoking in the lobby, waiting for my name to pop up (YEAH)
And usually I'd run home, and tuck the issue under
Living with my worries, I didn't really know what that lump was
My luck, it's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away)
[Verse 3]
You didn't know what the scarecrow is
It's like outer space in his inner ears
And like a blossom you opened up
And you understood why you could not love
It's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away)
John Salazar thank you
John Salazar thank u ..
2nd verse is my favorite...same way frank breaks his songs down
When he said, "Slob on my knob, like corn on the cob". 😩😭😍
I've been listening to this song for 6 months now. Sampha is so underappreciated, he deserves so many accolades. I think we should just create an award ceremony to appreciate people of his genre.
This is ridiculous. He's a poet. I feel exactly what he's saying. This is my favorite artist. I've been patiently waiting. He's back. And the wait was well worth it. I'm inspired to be all I can be listening to this dude.
He is gonna be one of the biggest artists on UK scene. When i hear him i got creeps.
Hopefully cause he's been around for years now
friður Does he have any full length albums. Or just the 1 Ep
nnorush85 his debut will have premiere in February.
...chills?
haleigh lmao "you said what you said" Nene voice

sampha and sza togeather would be dope
futurist 11 fr
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
oh shit!!
so god help me
yoooooooooo
Sampha gave me the feels
Sampha singlehanded help me through some tough times… he just gets it made me feel seen
Rediscovering sampha getting me emotionally prepared for 2022
Crazy how I’m from the hood and this how I be feeling ..full of anxiety from seeing so much death and feeling so much pain…but the real craziness is I see every race in the comments saying they can relate ….showing pain is universal and we all share that same emotion and should be more kind to ppl frfr …Peace 7
sampha is so soulful and creative, his piano composition as well as his lyrical composition sums up to be one of my favorite songs of the year, maybe even of all time. so beautiful. you're gifted, sampha. just know that.
Sampha is just one of the gifted artists. We just gotta keep supporting his work cause it's worth it...
Dayummmm this time 2 years ago I was going through a bad break up , boom fast forward now I’m going through more stuff it seems like it never stops. Contemplating my own life even not too sure if I even wanna stay and watch this world crumble to pieces . Peace to you whoever you are , can’t even shed any more tears feels like I ran out. Numb to it all
I hope you're still with us ... sending you love n blessings... ❤🙏🏾💫
Relating to you my friend. Hope youre doing good, times change. There will forever be good and bad days, but theres only positivity in you being here.
THIS SOUNDS WAY BETTER THAN THE ALBUM VERSION💯
no, not really. but its both great
It does
Clearly
Ya it’s much cleaner, voice and piano. Thats all you need👍👍
I actually like the album version..
This man is godly. I don't wanna hear nobody bandwagon on him when he gets the spotlight he deserves.
sam ullman this might be the dumbest thing I've seen all day
gotta love gatekeeping
i am so ready for this album.
When is it coming out?
+Dub Snac later in 2016
Pierre Clay official release date is now Feb 3 2017
it leaked
A few more days
I love this video, especially the lengths where we got a view from his back. You don't see his face, so all the emotional impact comes strictly from his voice and the piano. All the movements are subtle. They hardly take your attention away from his melodic playing of the keys and the smooth intensity of his vocals.
With that being said, I also love Sampha. Everytime I press play, it's like walking into an empty auditorium with him performing on stage alone. He has this "Frank Ocean" esque aura where he can really convey himself in a way that seems incredibly personal. It's like stepping through the door of Narnia with the way he grips you out of your own world, distracts you from your surroundings, and let's you bask in his. He makes 4 minutes not FEEL like 4 minutes...
Yup this is gonna be on repeat for some weeks.
“It’s so hot I’ve been melting out here, I’m made out of plastic out here” mood
What i love about this guy, is the originality in the sound, his voice, the way he uses the piano to accentuates. He is in a genre all by himself, no one sounds similar. Truly a genius honestly. The emotion and agnst in the music just reaches out to me and mkes it so that the music is timeless!
absolutely love how his live voice sounds exactly like his recorded voice
The effect this man's voice has on me!
2021 needs a Sampha return.
Love the way this is shot, image of London with the Overground in the background and Sampha's voice over it. Amazing.
This is the first song that I got to listen from Sampha, such a beautiful piece, so full of soul, full of passion. Hoping for more from the man
Sampha's voice is literally how I picture an angel singing
This is one of the most beautiful compositions I've heard in a while. Bravo, Sampha
Him & The Weeknd have got to be my top for my moods lately. This vibe is just incredible & so soothing after a long day. YES!!
-Amabelle
i’m screaming crying and throwing up from this piece of art. so much talent.
Sampha really up there with the greats. MAJOR
Sampha, still the most underrated/under appreciated global singer right now.
"You touchdown in the base of my fear" Sampha always been good but after hearing this and Timmy's Prayer he's about to become 1 of my favorite artists if the rest of the album is built like this.
This song is my favorite off of the album 😍😍😍
It's 2024..I'm still obsessed with this performance 🙌.. wat a talent❤
Wooow! Not a million views yet, round of applause for the individuals that still listen and search for REAL music.
2019 & this song's still in my playlist
Cameron Brown 2020.
2023 going on 2024
That “sleeping with my worries” bit at 2:25 hit different 😩
The train sound is the best featuring possible.
Love everything about this video. Rooftop, summer in London and music. How I miss these times.
It's crazy that with all the garbage auto-tune wannabe rappers coming out lately you can find such a fantastic artist.... I wish kids these days would look for Talent like this instead of listening to what trash everybody thinks is cool to listen to.... this dude is amazing
this is one of my favorite songs of all time
Sampha is easily one of the best vocalist today
Just heard this song for the first time today and fell in love, especially with the last minute and a half of the song. So beautiful
Once I heard him on "Something goes right" by SBTRKT a few years ago, I knew he was gonna make great music! His voice is deeply soulful...
That feeling of hearing a great song for the first time.
2021 and my mans still underrated
He has a beautiful voice
This song makes me feel
just wish he would release new music 😩
That part
I remember this time. We thought we wouldnt grow older
i love this guy, i hope he gets really big.
I keep coming back for this song❤
Yall got lucky with that last shot...the train passing was golden
Oooo I love the early morning sun
2020 and still loving this song! Better than 90% of todays music.
He's just my everything at this point with he's music
2021 and I'm still here🖤
I just discovered this album and no one knows me and this this song are literally the best thing I have heard in a while. He's a pure creative, vocals, musicanship, performance, everything is right.
lyrically sad. literally lovely
2:20 gives me chills every gawd dayum time!
This guy is incredible, somehow he’s even better live than in the studio. True artist
Listening to samphas songs always bring to peace. Nostalgia always hits me with all the good times I've had with my gf and how I grew as a person
Pure genuine god given talent
Such a unique sound
The train passing by just made it more amazing !!!
His voice is so uniquely beautiful, it’s like an instrument itself. 🥺
This touches my soul
Just beautiful and the musicianship is so well crafted and intuitive, there's humanity here, pure genius
Inez Patino
I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment perfectly worded!
I cherish the internet a whole lot when I come across songs you feel are just 😮💨 all this time and I dint know this.
2021 still coming back to this video, that’s how good sampha is
The only time i heard this guy was back when he was featured in Drake's song. Then I heard his album and this song is just so beautiful. I'm a new fan.
this hits the heart
Man I'm going to pray for this brother.. I looked up the meaning of his lyrics because I sensed a lot of pain in his voice... 😢 many blessings to you brother. Never know what people are going through.
His vocal texture is infinity
Best version no Capp ❤️💕
The studio version is going to be powerful
