Dennis is correct. Pat dinizio wrote as well or better than anyone else in the 80s and 90s. The man could turn a phrase better than anyone, and his words have fit into so many situations in my life. He will always be my favorite lyricist.
The Smithereens were an integral part of my “College Experience” and later followed me into other chapters of my life. At 57, I decided to take up guitar and follow a childhood dream. I also dove head first back into the music I loved so much. I consider the Smithereens to be part of that heartbeat, and watching any video about the band - a definite plus. My heart broke when I heard about Pat DiNizio’s passing from a Prep school buddy who’s friends with the band. If there’s ever a consultation in life, how great it is to know their efforts still live on and inspire others to create. My Saturday evenings are now jam sessions with younger musicians. I get to learn new songs, techniques, share ideas and also share bands many of them have never heard of. The Smithereens may be a band from my youthful college days in NJ, but they are still rocking garages and young talented minds. When asked, “Who is Pat DiNizio?” *last Saturday night* I felt the same way explaining “Tequila Sunrise” to a room full of young minds for the first time. At 57, I see opportunities at every corner and how better to share them like this! Rock On!!!
I love you guys and still listen to the Smithereens almost daily. Pat was the greatest and I really miss him💔!
Every single member of the Smithereens....just fantastic musicians. Thank you all. Miss Pat a ton. But so grateful for your music....
Nice retrospective - and a spectacular cover! Well done Marshall and the boys!
So cool to see Graham Maby on bass!
