Random idea I had a while ago, but the "solitary as an oyster" simile seemed to me like, whilst Scrooge does have a hard outer shell, he also has the potential to house a glimmering pearl if only something would cause the shell to open.
Excellent analysis! I learned so much more about a story I already thought I knew so well. Thank you for all the time and effort and creativity you put into this presentation. Great work! Well done!
Here's an interesting theory that could explains why Scrooge was so terrified of poverty. Christmas Carol was released in 1843 and Scrooge was somewhere between 60-70, which means he was likely born somewhere between 1770-1780. During his childhood England's economy took a major hit due to losing to the American Revolution and the sheer amount of debt it took on. By the time Scrooge became an adult and fully entrenched in banking, the Napoleonic Wars began and Napoleon crippled England's economy with an extremely aggressive embargo system.
