Yes, you are absolutely right - Color science - Shallow depth of field - Detail - Codec and frame rate - Dynamic range - Low light - Lens Apart from the form factor (which also affects the image quality in this case) and price the iPhone doesnt stand a chance
It was pretty easy to tell the difference. The hues are totally different. iPhone seems a lot brighter and harsher while the Red is much softer and tinted. Also the night shots are glaringly different.

Could also see a lot of compression artifacts on the iphone footage and obviously the bokeh was much cleaner on the RED, mainly because it is much easier to adjust the aperture on a cinema camera.

It isn't a surprise that the shots from the iPhone are more colorful. It is finished and the RED films in RAW. As everyone who is interested in photography should know are RAW images not as colorful because the have to be edited. There you can get the colours. You can't compare a finished iPhone shot with an unedited RAW shot...
Sharpness as well. All phones sharpen up the image a LOT *EDIT :* it's as if you went to an editing program and cranked the sharpness setting to max. Very grainy.

The lack of separation from foreground to background, lack of shadow detail, and the warp caused by the image stabilization in the iPhone clips gave it away. Those sunset clips looked surprisingly great on the iPhone though!
but the jeep shot was mindblowing HDR work, jeep shot and the lesbo gymnastics ones were great shots from iPhone, all other low light ones failed miserably

You can clearly see which is which. The RED has more softness., the image is a lot cleaner overall, it's not oversharpened. You can say it is naturally sharp. The colours are also a lot cleaner, life-like and soft. The blending of highlights and natural colors were also a lot better on the RED. Also, the iPhone X has a lot more clipping. Which also gave it away. Well, of course, the DOF and the minimal grain in the RED footage made it obvious which was which.

Almost every single video gave me the clear-cut idea of the device from which it was been taken by analysing just two simple things 1. Red cameras shoot in RAW mode and it's video needs to be colour graded so it cannot have saturated colours like the video by iPhone 2. iPhone doesnot produce depth of field blur like most of the high grade camera's due to which it cannot produce much light bokeh in the video

Its not about the color, it was all about the focus. The iPhone/smartphones struggles to capture every movement at once, especially the night and park scene, with the sun and the car headlights. The Red Camera was built to do that. The red camera is known to have darker images, unlike the iPhone X that is able to absorb massive amount of light.
Spectrum Yeah but another that gave the iPhone away was obviously the night shot. It just doesn't have good low light detection like other phones do. But that depends on the environment you're in.
What gave it away to me was the iPhone X's awkward focusing with the two chicks doing yoga poses? It takes a bit to see but once you realize it you will never unsee it. It constantly focusing and unfocusing looking like a minor zoom in and zoom out
Dan Tsai agreed. I love shooting with the iPhone since you can be so discreet especially in populated places, but low light with mobile isn't up to spec. We can dream though! Still love my X.
I also notice it overexposes if there's a bright light source not in focus. Maybe they can correct that with software. I don't have that bad of an issue when using VSCO, MuseMage, and Camera+, but for straight point and shoot on iPhone on stock, it's an issue.
It'd be amazing if you got your hands on a medium format sensor (ALEXA 65) and compare it to a 35mm sensor. I just watched Baraka and was blown away by how the larger format automatically gave the image a more immersive and epic feel. But yeah, if that vid isn't on your agenda, I won't complain, it's just a fantasy
I was watching a Philly D and left it as soon as I got notified. Totally WORTH IT. Man some of these shots were amazing. I never realized how great the X shoots. ( Not to brag but I have a 5s ) The shot that gave it away was the depth of field with the woman drinking the wine. Keep up the AWESOME videos as always - they are so much fun to watch. The shots you feel like the iphone X were better is probably because you didn't adjust the camera settings propperly on the RED while the iphone does that for you.
WildBearFilms you think someone who spent all that money on a RED doesn't know how to "properly" adjust his settings? The RED shoots raw and most likely using a Log format allowing more information to be captured and a greater dynamic range so it looks flat and desaturated, which is meant to be edited in post. iPhone is not meant to do that it's just meant to film the final image so it looks sharper and more saturated

Definitely the blown highlights that gave it away for me, that's the way I've always been able to tell when someone has recorded on their iPhone. IPhone x is impressive, but if you truly want to do a film look for cheap, get an older version of a Panasonic camera and update the firmware. Cheaper, better quality, and more availability to customize your shots in post; but that's just my opinion. A true artist doesn't need perfect specs to make amazing works of art, and a lot of lower quality cameras have proven that. (I personally love depth of field shots and im sure my videos really showcase that, so i may be a bit biased against the iPhone x)
JonaRucz no not at all if you look at specs processors etc you can get better you cheaper razor phone blows it out of water with the processor and ram and it is a mouse for a laptop
Maybe the professional camera works in a different color space and the transformation to sRGB didn't go well? My first thoughs were: It's milky and tinted.
The guy said it's raw, so that means no color correction has been done yet. Iphone looks better on first glacne. but after a short time of color correction the red will look hugely better

The final shot in the dark gave it away for me, the X was grainier but the Red was able to handle it really well

I also notice it overexposes if there's a bright light source not in focus. Maybe they can correct that with software. I don't have that bad of an issue when using VSCO, MuseMage, and Camera+, but for straight point and shoot on iPhone on stock, it's an issue.

It'd be amazing if you got your hands on a medium format sensor (ALEXA 65) and compare it to a 35mm sensor. I just watched Baraka and was blown away by how the larger format automatically gave the image a more immersive and epic feel. But yeah, if that vid isn't on your agenda, I won't complain, it's just a fantasy

I was watching a Philly D and left it as soon as I got notified. Totally WORTH IT. Man some of these shots were amazing. I never realized how great the X shoots. ( Not to brag but I have a 5s )
The shot that gave it away was the depth of field with the woman drinking the wine.

The shots you feel like the iphone X were better is probably because you didn't adjust the camera settings propperly on the RED while the iphone does that for you.

WildBearFilms you think someone who spent all that money on a RED doesn't know how to "properly" adjust his settings? The RED shoots raw and most likely using a Log format allowing more information to be captured and a greater dynamic range so it looks flat and desaturated, which is meant to be edited in post. iPhone is not meant to do that it's just meant to film the final image so it looks sharper and more saturated

Wow! I had no idea the camera on the iPhone X was so powerful! Great vid!
Definitely the blown highlights that gave it away for me, that's the way I've always been able to tell when someone has recorded on their iPhone. IPhone x is impressive, but if you truly want to do a film look for cheap, get an older version of a Panasonic camera and update the firmware. Cheaper, better quality, and more availability to customize your shots in post; but that's just my opinion. A true artist doesn't need perfect specs to make amazing works of art, and a lot of lower quality cameras have proven that. (I personally love depth of field shots and im sure my videos really showcase that, so i may be a bit biased against the iPhone x)

1st one was definitely the iPhone 10, less depth of field, and you could see how hard it was struggling with the high exposure shots

Maybe the professional camera works in a different color space and the transformation to sRGB didn't go well? My first thoughs were: It's milky and tinted.
The guy said it's raw, so that means no color correction has been done yet. Iphone looks better on first glacne. but after a short time of color correction the red will look hugely better
in my opinion some of the iphone shots looked absolutely horrible, while the red ones, well, didn't
