    $25 per wheel bearing, $125 for a 20 ton hydraulic press from harbor freight total cost $225. Saving about $1000 and gaining knowledge along the way, priceless.
    It's actually not as much work as it seems. I did one a couple years ago and watched this again as a refresher. I did not take off as much as he does but this time I'm replacing control arms and everything, so everything must go.

      Rear wheel bearings on these seem to start at $85 each. I'm not including E-Bay/Amazon Chnesium stuff which you'd be insane to use.

    Thanks for posting this, I did the same on a 2013 X3 rear bearings, was able to get to the inside bolts without taking off the all the supports. This was a big help.

    If this is what you plan on doing on your car, be aware that EVERYTHING is stuck. Shit won't come off at all and it will take you a whole day. You will also be drunk from all the beers you need to calm yourself down at the end of the day. And by the way: use a torque wrench for Christ's sake.

      Thank you for your feedback ! Unfortunately, each car requires particular replacement and everything depends on a technical condition of car parts units. Our videos are informative in the replacement sequence. Our new videos will show how to use a torque wrench. Watch out for our upgrades. Best regards, Autodoc.

    good video.. for other folks looking at it - you really don't need to drop the A-arm, and *always* use a torque wrench on the axle nut... never hammer it on with an impact.

    • @drgnfr20
      @drgnfr20 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remember this video is from a shop they want each corner to take at least an hour. But no use a swivel you can get to the hub bolts. Also use a puller on the bearing race hitting it with a hammer can ruin the surface the bearing race sits on.

    • @mackiv8612
      @mackiv8612 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if you dont drop the a arm theres still clearance to the 4 bolts in the back of the bearing?

    I like that they did not show how they cut the old bearing race with an angle grinder to get it split so it would come off with a few taps of a hammer. Yet use a hydraulic press to put the new bearing on. You can even see a diagonal cut on the bearing race as he puts it on the table. But great video none the less.

    • @spencermaiers8322
      @spencermaiers8322 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learned to score the line and chisel it split as well, and I am curious how many people use a bearing splitter and press off the inner race. Sometimes you must hammer on a big socket to get the wheel hub flange off I've found. I think w a press, grinder and a hammer maybe a slide hammer you can probably do almost any wheel bearings within reason.

    • @tempest411
      @tempest411 ปีที่แล้ว

      The last time I did one of these I tried a propane torch on the race and it came right off with a flick of a screwdriver.

    I’m wondering though, I am not able to get the wheel hub off.
    I using the slide hammer and it will not budge!
    Any ideas as to why this may be happening?
    Thanks!

    Good text book type video but fake and misleading in the fact that it's all staged and everything has been loosened prior.....makes it all look so easy and effortless.
    You even dropped the wishbone without deflating the airbag or supporting the airbag arm.
    Wish it was that easy in the real world👍

    I removed my passenger front side axle in order to get the lower ball joint out on my X5 e53 (Pennsylvania car...the ball joint would not come out by simply removing the torx bolts. Had to wail on the top of it it with a hammer but first had to remove axle to remove knuckle to get to the top of the ball joint.) Doing reassembly now and the original axle nut will not thread back onto the axle easily. Is a new axle nut required or is using the old one acceptable? Thanks in advance for any help.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feedback ! We appreciate you valuable comment. Of course, one should use a new nut, as the old one is worn and is not subject to the re-mounting. Best regards, Autodoc.
