    The Big Bang was not an explosion, it was an expansion of spacetime. Explosions hurtle matter outward from a center. The Big Bang had no center, and the universe expanded everywhere in it. The Big Bang did not hurtle anything anywhere.

      ​@@jakeg3733 I think they're implying that it is so powerful, that it'll be like the near impossibility of a supernova's GRB pointing exactly at us. If a hypernova's GRB is actually _pointing at us,_ well, this was a nice half of the galaxy to know.

      @@glidershower Sure, but how wide would the "beam" realistically be? I don't understand the physics very well, but I'm assuming it wouldn't be a 50,000 light year wide death ray that would scour every world within a massive section of the galaxy. You wouldn't want to be near it or in it's path, but the above seemed... Improbable

      @thatonephannie whoexists very inaccurate? I don't necessarily watch this channel to be educated, I mostly have been overeducated in aspects of cosmology, but it's typically just because I love science. I've seen a couple things that I disagreed with but I wouldn't go as far as to say "VERY" inaccurate. More like occasionally inaccurate....

    Astronomers have long observed that the gravitational force due to ordinary matter doesn’t appear to be sufficient to keep rapidly moving stars inside their galaxies. The gravitational pull of dark matter is assumed to make up the difference. In regions where the force of gravity is strong, bodies obey Newton’s law of gravity, which states that the gravitational force between two objects decreases in proportion to the square of the distance that separates them. But in environments of extremely weak gravity - like the outer parts of a galaxy - another type of gravity is in play. This gravity decreases more slowly with distance, which means that it doesn’t weaken as much.The idea is to make gravity stronger when it should be weaker, like at the outskirts of a galaxy. Hypernovae are possibly the most powerful explosions in our Universe. Eventually the core of the star runs out of hydrogen. When that happens, the star can no longer hold up against gravity. While the core collapses, the outer layers of material in the star to expand outward. The star expands to larger than it has ever been - a few hundred times bigger! Since the early 1900s, Einstein’s theory of gravity - called the general theory of relativity - has dominated the theories and calculations of cosmologists, those who explain the workings of our universe as a whole. General relativity has been proven again and again, most recently with the first direct black hole image. Now, physicists at Durham University in the U.K. say that Einstein’s general theory of relativity might not be the only way to explain how gravity works or how galaxies form. Black holes play a key role in galaxy formation because the heat and material they eject when swallowing surrounding matter can burn away the gas needed to form stars, effectively stopping star formation.The amount of heat spewed out by black holes is altered by changing gravity, affecting how galaxies form. These physicists said their work might also shed light on our understanding of the observed accelerating expansion of the universe. The chameleon is a hypothetical scalar particle that couples to matter more weakly than gravity, postulated as a dark energy candidate. Due to a non-linear self-interaction, it has a variable effective mass which is an increasing function of the ambient energy density-as a result, the range of the force mediated by the particle is predicted to be very small in regions of high density (for example on Earth, where it is less than 1mm) but much larger in low-density intergalactic regions: out in the cosmos chameleon models permit a range of up to several thousand parsecs. As a result of this variable mass, the hypothetical fifth force mediated by the chameleon is able to evade current constraints on equivalence principle violation derived from terrestrial experiments even if it couples to matter with a strength equal or greater than that of gravity. Although this property would allow the chameleon to drive the currently observed acceleration of the universe's expansion, it also makes it very difficult to test for experimentally.

      Mai Ki Ultramassive is something used for a black hole. Hypergiants and hypernovas are the largest core collapse explosions.

      I know. But I was wondering since they use the prefixes Super, then Hyper, then Ultra in terms of orders of magnitude. Maybe Ultranova should be the "Largest" since Ultra is Ultimate - Infinitely the greatest. Makes more sense than using Hyper in that same terminology.

      Yes there was one that happened in our own milky way. There are several theories as to how it happened. My personal favorite theory says a gas giant/ brown dwarf slowly and at a very precise angle falls into a quasar. The angle of descent let's the outer shell of the brown dwarf that faces the quasar turn into diterium. When that huge ball of super fuel finally hits, it produces an ungodly galaxy shaking explosion. Those bubbles (fermi) are still seen in our milky way today. Lucky for us that explosion was seven million years ago.

      Not really, A Hypernova It is a type of stellar explosion of magnitude higher than most supernovae.
      Astronomers identify two major types of supernovas:
      Type I Supernova: This is similar to a nova but the explosion is much more powerful. A Type I supernova has no hydrogen in its spectrum.
      Type II Supernova: A star several times more massive than the sun runs out of nuclear fuel and collapses under its own gravity until it explodes. A Type II supernova has hydrogen in its spectrum.

      SUPERLUMINOUS SUPERNOVA (Hypernova): A burst 5 to 50 times more energetic than a supernova.
      That would be the classification!

      No, a blazzar is an actively feeding quasar. It creates massive jets out of it's top and bottom poles relative to it's spin. Those jets are an extinction event waiting to happen if they hit us. Chances are low but never zero.
