Wow I never knew this song had a video. I love this song.... this is the album that got me listening to her back in the 90's and been following her music ever since. I love how she incorporates the African dances, tres magnifique... Thanks for posting!
Angelique's energy and spirit is amazingly uplifting. To me she's a mixture of Miriam Makeba and Tina Turner (and that is meant in a positive way). Been a fan for over 20 years now!
man!! i'll never stop loving her music, people would question me like what? you're 19 and you listen to her? i'd be like she's far more talented then majority of the artists of today
I'm so so excited. I am Afro Colombian (from Colombia) (South America). And in my community of Afro-descendants there is a children's game in which we say "Cocoroé" And Angelique says "Cocorobé" or "Cocoroé" in this song. and she in this song sings so similar to the women of here that traditionally we sing for dismissing ours dead, we call it "Alabao"(praised). This is incredible. I do not know what means "Cocoroé" but that song has always been there, and I just discovered that has connection to Africa Hahaha ñ_ñ I LOVE YOU Angelique. You are one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I want to go to a concert of you. all my respect and admiration. Blessings!
H Córdoba hi, i'm from Benin, and she says "oho do é" that means something like " talk bad". In the lyrics she talk about people who speaks ill of other. I'm not sure of the spelling of the word in "FON", main language of Benin
Houssou Boris Hello Boris. :D Nice to meet you. The Child play as I say. consists in one round of persons. each person must invent a couplet of four stanzas. it comes to improvise. tell what occurs to us. but should rhyme. That's Humorous and fun. And the person ends the rhyme. and then sing: "Cocoroé, Cocoroé, Cocoroé los hijos de José" and then carry on the next person to improvise. and so on. I hope you understand what I said. (sorry the way I write cocoroé. but I speak Spanish) So it would make sense what you say "talk bad". because the Children Round, Is about be creative and invent verses sung.:D I hope some day go to Benin. because it closely resembles my community. Maybe I solved my doubt about where my ancestors were coming. Thank you very much. Blessings :)
Me too I knew it was a sample of Angelique kidjo I didn't know the original song name was "We We" but it pop up when I typed her name and inandjole andjoloko as I was trying to rephrase part of the chorus from memory not knowing the meaning or the spelling of the words.
happy birthday to angelique kidjo. this july 14th........from one of beninese fan in new york....que l'eternel vous en fasse soufler tant et tant d'autres.
Almost two decades later and I still have no clue what she is saying in the song but I love it. Sounds of my childhood. Guess this how all non-Zulu-speakers feel when they hear the start of circle of life in the Lion King.
Hey!, This is our first contact with "Angélique Kidjo", and we find HER JUST GREAT!!! We have heard this song We We in Sapanish sang with a singer calleD Ilse. It is incredible how sometimes singers want to surprise us with covers material . Well!, the nice thing is that even though it has happended about 18 years ago, finally we knew the original singer. And WE THINK SHE IS GREAT!!!

She's singing Fon language and dancing the Beninese style, like they do for vodun ceremonies. Great artist from Cotonou. Yeah, Bénin!
