    • @rticante
      @rticante 3 ปีที่แล้ว +125

      Yeah, mostly because Damiano's lyrics in Italian have been *far* better than the ones he wrote in English, and they also risk losing any peculiarity to make them stand out if they enter the international market armed with only mediocre English lyrics. The Italian language also has very specific sounds that can't be replicated in English and judging by the success of Zitti e Buoni the foreign audience loves it; you don't have to sing in English to get a massive international following (think Rammstein). So in my opinion either they improve their English writing dramatically (which would obviously be great) or they keep putting out mixed-language albums, because at the moment I don't see them faring too well writing only in English.

    • @foscolo987
      @foscolo987 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @Ambam yep, and that would make sense tbh. I guess what Damiano said in this interview could be misunderstood. I hope that's the case!
      There are soo many reasons why they shouldn't stop writing in Italian:
      - first of all, being a native Italian speaker, inevitably his lyrics in Italian will always be a lot more varied
      - their biggest portion of fans is made of Italians, who actually helped them a lot in reaching this extremely well-deserved fame
      - currently, their most beautiful songs are in Italian
      - a lot of foreigners now want to learn Italian thanks to them
      - they said themselves that rock in Italy "isn't really a thing" but they are changing that and they shouldn't stop because we are counting on them 🔥🔥❤

    The lyrics in Italian are superb. They are deep and soulful. Not to mention that Italian is a very melodic and soft language. The English songs are entertaining but kind of lacking a soul. I'm not Italian, though I know the language to some extent and I, without a doubt, prefer the Italian songs. It would be a huge mistake if they start writing too many songs in English. and honestly the quality of italian lyrics (I didn't actually know them before Sanremo) really surprised me; Coraline is a great example; if they can transport that quality to English lyrics that's great, but I would ensure that that quality is not lost in any case. Looking at people's reaction to the possibility of English-only lyrics is so interesting. Hopefully they'll get the message.
    I definitely think it would be a missed opportunity to leave out such an important part of what people fell in love with their music for, speaking for myself at least.
    Most, if not all of the biggest musicians have songs in English, this has been a breath of fresh air for the industry, don't give up on it.

    Got mixed feelings about the writing in English thing; like obviously their Italian lyrics are deeper and it makes them more unique on the international market being a rock band that sings not in English... But also, hearing I want to be your Slave, For your love, or even their covers of English bands, I'm really loving Damiano's accent in English, and I do want to hear more of that lol

    "The Italian audience prefers the italian language" sounds a bit like a polite way to say that our population is bad at english (which is kinda true 😁). I actually wonder if their record label could be pushing towards english (I wouldn't be surprised), though remember, you guys are smashing the abroad charts with a rock song in italian (a language that's just built different and that you use so well in your lyrics). So, in the end a 50/50 mix would probably be a sensible choice.

    • @zaqwsx23
      @zaqwsx23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Italians just want great songs in Italian and not only great songs in English. That's the point. If the best artists are forced to focus mostly on English as soon they become successful, the hole that remains for songs in Italian is filled by less good artists. It's a vicious circle. An Italian guy has a TH-cam channel where for fun he makes Italian versions of popular songs born in English. He is so good in the rendering that it seems there is no difference with the originals. Probably Americans found out Måneskin and we run the risk to say goodbye to new songs in Italian.

    My mind is reeling from the fact that this album was recorded live but it also makes total sense with the energy created. Have to say, I don't have any issue with them writing songs in both English and Italian. Fell in love with them because of their general charisma and musicianship and also with Damiano's vocal performance. The Italian lyrics are far more intricate but I don't think this necessarily dictates how the overall song turns out. Damiano is clearly a very talented writer. I also enjoy the different vibe of the English songs too, they feel more punk inspired because the lyrics are simplistic and that just works for certain songs. I don't think he was saying that they won't write songs in Italian anymore, just that this is an opportunity to work on their English language songs and I feel that as time goes on the lyrics to these are likely to grow in complexity too. To be able to do both and find success with songs in both languages is pretty outstanding. I'm in my early 30s and I haven't been this excited about a band in a really long time and when you take their ages in to account, what they're doing is remarkable.

So it’s a great chance for their native language to get more recognition but also to make Italian rock a ‘thing’ in Italy. They will be remembered for that. Ahhh gutted to hear that they want to focus on writing in English. I don't spreak Italian, but when I look up translations of their Italian songs, the lyrics are just SO good. They are so poetic and have so much meaning, also more on a societal level (e.g. VENT'ANNI and Coraline). I also love their idea of Marlena, and how she (and everything she represents) comes back in their songs. Their songs in English are also good, but are lyrically nowhere near the quality of their Italian songs. Europe fell in love with the genuinity and uniqueness that they brought to the table with Zitti e Buoni, so it shows that songs do not have to be in English to top the charts. Singing in English now means becoming one of the countless and faceless foreign bands trying to sound all the same and aping UK and American artists. Who wants an Italian copy of Ed Sheeran singing in English if the original is still around and doing great? There are already rock bands out there who sing in their original language, sound megacool and are popular. The world has changed and English speakers should realize that English is not the only language in the world. Said by an Italian whose mother is English .

    Love love love this interview and love love love Måneskin - I’m not Italian but I adore their Italian music, even without translating the lyrics it just sounds beautiful and has a different depth to it and of course their English songs are amazing too, Måneskin are unique and that’s reflected in the success they’re having - I can’t wait to see their next accomplishments and hear their new music 🤘🏻🎸

    I am with everyone hoping they keep writing in Italian. I think they are a band that could smash the need for English language songs if you want a global audience. You can follow the narrative of their lyrics so well even without understanding them straight away because of the performance style and it's not hard to find a translation. I love their Italian stuff especially.
