No problem! Here's the information about the Mercedes CLR GTR: The Mercedes CLR GTR is a remarkable racing car celebrated for its outstanding performance and sleek design. Powered by a potent 6.0-liter V12 engine, it delivers over 600 horsepower. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes approximately 3.7 seconds, with a remarkable top speed surpassing 320 km/h. Incorporating advanced aerodynamic features and cutting-edge stability technologies, the CLR GTR ensures exceptional stability and control, particularly during high-speed maneuvers. Originally priced around $1.5 million, the Mercedes
MERCEDES: welcome onboard sir hope you enjoy your flight. PILOT: please fasten your seatbelts the CLR flight will take off in 3 seconds Then car proceeds to take off at count 3😅
the reason why the clr gtr keeps heading towards the international space station is because the nose of the front was basically kinda too sharp. and the slipstream from the car infront of the clr disrupted the aerodynamics which caused the car to take off towards the international space station (Also because of lack of down force. Info from a reply) (bruh idk anymore just check the replies there's people correcting me)
It wasn't 'too sharp', the car was designed that way on purpose for the LeMans track. Downforce of a car is adjusted on the car for the nature of each track. A track with more corners snd shorter straights downforce is increased to help the car stick to the track in turns but the downforce created is also drag and slows the top speed of the car on the straights. LeMans has the longest straight so the team reduced the downforce as much as possible for less drag to take advantage of the long straight by gaining the highest top speed. The lack of downforce and the purposely built flat underside allowed the car to lift like you said when close behind another car that blocked any air from pushing down and creating the little downforce it did have so it was able to lift.
One of the 'pilots' (pictured) is a young Mark Webber. I don't believe he 'flew' all of them, but that long shot of the car tumbling and landing 'in the woods' of LeMan, I believe, was his.
It’s not surprising the CLK GT took off when you look how far BEHIND the rear wheels they put the rear wing. Like the Countach, that big rear wing pressing down so far behind the rear axle line causes the front to get very light at speed.
The drivers in 1999 Le Mans 24 Heurs Mercedes CLR were Bernd Schneider of Germany and Christophe Bouchut of France, and young guns Mark Webber of Australia, Nick Heidfeld of Germany, and the rookie Peter Dumbreck,
Those flights must have brought back awful memories for Mercedes of the accident at Le Mans in 1955 killing 83 and injuring another 120 one of motorsports most dreadful days .
Problem back time before driving at high speeds, the weight balancing and aerodynamics were not adjusted. Because airdinamic and center of gravity balancing differ at higher speeds. Therefore, at that time, he made a mistake and flew off the track at headwind speeds due to an accident. Springs and shock absorbers must be taken into account, tire grip or under what conditions.
The Silver arrows. Amazing cars with a sad history. One of the most fantastic hypercar to drive with one of the best maneuverability in curves and accelerations with a high torque even past 200km/h. The one flaw was the risk to take off the road at speeds above 320km, but to this day this is a legendary car some people would love to have, knowing they don't drive at 300km/h.
Fun fact, the CLR is actually the evolution of the CLK LM, itself being a variant of the CLK GTR. We see the CLK LM in the video, as its the one with the red side mirrors in a really short clip of it accelereting in the hunaudieres, when he talks about the engines power
it 'flew' because the gt cars ahead of it were causing aero instability, and due to clr's design, esp it's underside, instead of downforce, it was creating more lift. in fact, the clr ended up becoming a functioning wing.
The Mercedes Benz CLR is a GT1 car and in the 80s and 90s gt1 required all cars to have at least 25 street legal examples built. The CLK GTR is not exactly a race car but it sure is special. Also the clr is the one that flipped
They were two rules in the GT1 road cars from 1993 to 1998. The first one was to produce one unit of a car, which is homologated for the road in one country. The second one allowed the brands to not sell it. Mercedes-Benz decided to produce 26 of them because it reduces the costs per unit, but they produced only one CLR for the road when they replaced the CLK GTR. Porsche decided to produce less than 20 993 and 20 996 GT1 Straßenversion, Dauer produced 13 962 Le Mans, but they were allowed to produce only one unit, and not to sell it. Toyota and Nissan decided to produce only one GT-One and only one R390 GT1, but they did not sell it. TVR produced also only one Cerbera Speed 12, but they sold it. Lister produced 3 Storm and sold it. So Mercedes-Benz did not produced 25 cars because of the rules in GT1, it is their own choice.
