@KMD NL Pretty much anything you can bring into motion- you can use. Soooo as far as a list- just whatever Motion already supports. If you create a text layer in Motion, you can still change it. Its "live" and changeable- if yo make it somewhere else and bring it it- its just a group of pixels that just happens to be arranged in a work or whatever and Motion treats it like a picture.
5:25 you say "let's go ahead and put a move on it", but it is impossible to tell what you do here. The mouse cursor appears to skip from one part of the screen to another.

I bought Motion 5 four weeks ago and really am indebted to you. You are an awesome teacher and have inspired me to create so many titles and transitions. I have just uploaded a pack of transitions which I want to share with whoever would like them - the bubble ones I think are cute - and I would love it if you would take a look and give me some feedback on how I am doing. It's just a 2 minute video but contains the transition pack and several titles that I have created. Thank you so much for inspiring me!
Hey those are really cool! Haven't downloaded them, but I bet you could build a rig and have users change colors, or drop zones to add their own images for the bubbles. Nice zoom effect too. Keep going, you're doing way better than I did when I first started.
@@AVUltra oh wow yes...what a good idea...drop zones on the bubbles...thank you...i really appreciate you taking the time to have a look and feedback to me
Anytime! I really am committed to teaching people what I know so I try to check things out when I can, and respond when I see things. Another thing you should check out is when you are making these for yourself is RIGs. If you set it up right, you could realistically bundle a whole bunch of different bubbles transitions or effects all in one template.
Love the tutorials. There are seemingly so few for Apple motion. The Ripple Training guys must hate you for sharing all this for free. Why was the color of the circle reveal layer changed if it's only used to erase the first circle and we don't actually see it's color when the transition is applied?
Thanks for the message! To answer your question- I changed the color even though we don't see it for 2 reasons: 1. As Im building this- if its the same color as Im demonstrating, if it's the same color you cant really "see what it's doing" until you make it a mask, so i needed a way to show people watching the lesson. 2. If I, or anyone else, wants to alter this one in the future and turn off the reveal mask- it will be the same color as the first and look invisible, and may be confusing. As far as Ripple and Motion lessons in general: I've never actually watched any of the paid ripple courses or tutorials. Ever. I've seen some of their free content, but when I was originally learning Motion, I couldn't afford any of their paid training at all. Like a lot of people, I searched youtube for free stuff and like you mentioned, there really ins't a lot there. I believe that Motion is the BEST VALUE in motion graphics software out there, and most people don't even realize what it is or what it can do - in large part because theres not a lot of educational content out there.(for free) I know that if people knew the enormous value of Motion (especially with working with FCPX) people would be using it 10x more at minimum. I also believe everyone deserves to know the basics for free, and when there's more educational content out there, more people use it, and stuff gets better. Im not the best, but I try hard, and i hope the stuff i build leads other artists and designers in creating something even better with the knowledge that they learned from me. It's a way for me to give back to the world. Lastly- and this is a self serving but honest answer- it forces me to know a topic very well if I am going to present information out there for the entire world. I spend a lot of time and effort to do my best that these lessons are clear, concise, and build upon key post production topics, so that I also grow, learn, and get better in my craft. Thanks so much for your support, and I'm extremely flattered that you took time to send a comment. -S

Happy I found this channel. My question is, do you still upload tutorial videos of motion in here or your have moved on to other stuff as I can see you are doing amazingly well for MotionVFX. Honestly I couldn’t be happier when I heard your voice on this tutorial I immediately asked myself where I’ve heard this voice from until I realised that it was you from MotionVFX. Also is there a one place I can watch all your videos made for motion? Though this tutorial is a bit too fast for me to follow. Some of the things done here were skipped which makes it hard to follow it properly. How did you add the move on it???? Edited: I’ve watched all your videos up to this point and it now makes sense about why some of the things you skipped as they were covered in the previous videos. Thanks
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Short answer: Yes, I am uploading more motion again. I am extremely fortunate to be doing work with MotionVFX, and had originally planned on new lessons earlier. Unfortunately I had to move studios a couple times, and it took a little while to get acclimated to my workload. Currently you can view all the lessons I’ve created for AVUltra right on my TH-cam page, under playlists you can find just motion. By the end of the week I’ll have a current playlist of the items for MotionVFX I’ve completed.
@AV-Ultra Can I Ask You Something. LOL I Know This Is Kinda Off Topic But Why Is It That When You Zoom In @15:30, It Shows So Many Missing Transitions?
When I test my transitions I test them on a couple different machines and I have to test they are installed correctly etc. The easiest way I’ve found to do that is rename the entire folder and creating anew one. What you are seeing is all the ones I regularly have installed, but have removed for testing purposes.
So many little things that I actually do (and redo in AE) would actually make more sense here and just recreate them as reusable tools via Effects, Generators, Titles, Transitions, etc... thanks a lot for the comprehensive rundown on all of these. Question, behaviors and rigs with Titles had a in-out animation options, markers and duration auto-adjustment going on. Do transition have other similar controls? Or it’s all only at the full transition duration level.
Transitions are special because of the A-B nature of transitions. You can totally add rigs to them but will auto adjust because of the middle point really needed to be the intersection of the two clips.
Creating reusable tools in titles and generators and effects etc are exactly how these are designed. In fact you can bundle them with specific libraries so it’s a complete package ready to go. You can even open any of them from final cut into motion make changes and save them in their own categories or subcategories making it perfect if you have like a specific project or client and want to list out ‘main title’ ‘lower third’ etc all accessible across different libraries or packed with specific libraries. It’s so versatile and deep I think a lot of people don’t see the full potential but those that do it save days of work.
Your tutorials are very helpful, thank you! Been looking for someone to show how to do bar reveals as I want to emulate Vegas Pro transitions, the bar reveal was my first one c; But I have a question; in between clips it works fine, but when I put it at the end of a clip that doesn't have another clip after it, the transition doesn't work at all (which is weird since other built-in and external transitions I've bought don't have this problem), it just cuts to black without the transition. I made another one and it doesn't work either. Is there a way to fix that?
trying really hard to follow this... at 10:04 you say that alright lets go to the circle reveal view. and its seemingly there in a matter of a second. how did you get a Circle Reveal layer?
Weird looks like its cut there for some reasons. Well its basically the same layer and inverted so it does a wipe in and a wipe out. The point is to cover the frames where the transitions meet so its a seamless transition and doesn't have a jarring cut.
Quick question. If you don't have hancles and it gives you that warning, why does it change the duration of the film? I get that the transition cuts into the desired part of your clips, but I don't understand why the actual film duration would change?
For a transition to work it needs handles. these are the frames that are used inside the transition. So if you go to the end of a clip, theres no more frames to use for inside the transition which means the transition won't work and it would just hard cut to the next clip. Having handles means theres media that will be effected by the transitions. Hope that explains things better.
It’s limited. There’s no good easy way to do it. Good news is final cut might still be free for 30 days, and if you know iMovie you already know a good chunk of final cut.
@@AVUltra Hey, thanks for responding. Here's a summary of what I'm trying to do. I make woodworking videos (different username) and sometimes speed up the clip. I'd love to be able to show how fast I've sped up the clip (2x, 4x, 8x, etc). So far what I've come up with in motion is to have the speed slide in from the left side with a little animation (number and the letter x are slanted backwards, come to a stop and tilt forwards and then stand upright). With this I was just going to compile it and add it to FCPX. The problem that is that I don't want to have to open motion every time I want this effect to change the number. I'd love to just be able to change the speed number variable in FCPX and not have to compile each number. I'm not sure if that's a transition, a generator or some sort of rig (I've been pouring through you're incredibly well made videos for the answer). You have 20K subs now (congrats), so I don't expect you to answer my specific question in great detail, just wanted to know a particular direction to go with it. I would assume this isn't a unique thing as it would be great to do pop up bubbles with tips that can be completely filled in in the same manner (think VH1 and the pop-up bubbles).
