    How much more booming can it do? Demand is already so high or at least it feels that way from my ebay sales. Insane considering the state of the economy in the UK where I am.

      I think that there will be a new boom. Pokemon Pocket might not be the best catalyst but just like 151, the Rocket set and Gym trainer sets might. And if you combine everything... 2025 might be a good year. I started selling some cards too on the side and since 151 all the conversations I have are with many new collectors. I hear other people share the same vision as this person, like PokeNE. I was also thinking the contrary, like opening packs digitally might affect opening IRL negatively instead but it might not be a bad take that it increases physical sales.

    I think it's about boosting the Pokemon physical TCG (and the Pokemon brand as a whole), but also cornering another area of the market.
    There are a lot of mobile gamers now. Digital cards have a much higher return than physical ones. You create them once and that's it. There's no overhead other than servers/more development. Physical cards have a never ending overhead. You have to keep spending money to create the physical cards and to ship them across the world.
    Every move Pokemon makes is to boost the entire ecosystem of Pokemon (like Apple), so I get where you're coming from, but I don't think the end goal is physical cards. I would even argue that they prefer the digital versions, as it's more accessible and has less overhead

    • @DLegend16
      @DLegend16 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The overhead has never been an issue… they’ll just keep inflating MSRP for packs like they did when SV was released. Consumers will continue to buy stuff at or above MSRP. I think this is mostly a move to grow the brand of pokemon/continue to bring good PR to increase eyes on the IP

    • @4FrogsStacked
      @4FrogsStacked 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DLegend16 The overhead isn't an issue for them of course, but if you could minimize that overhead and increase profit margins, why wouldn't you? There's also a certain point where the cost of the product gets too high and the demand drops, so even though you are charging more for the product, you're selling less, so you end up making less money.
      Tackling a different market is a brand move. They're doing both

  • @le_med
    @le_med 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Further more I can see Pokemon creating a system where you could redeem virtual cards for physical ones sent directly by pokemon which then will have your address and could market directly to those households. You will also have themed cards obtained by opening a certain number of packs or on a special day at a certain place (like worlds) using geolocation making it just not about opening packs but chasing rare cards requiring you to have the app opened in a certain place etc... They have too many options to expand upon and those cost less than printing a single set

    Hearthstone has been a successful digital card game for over a decade now. If Pokemon can execute their game properly, they could make a massive profit. Of course there will always be those who prefer the physical cards, but we are moving more and more to a digital era.

    I absolutely agree - it's a marketing strategy to create an overreaching pull effect on the physical ptcg. Especially, if it is free for the majority of people.
    In economics, it's well known, that if a product is free, than actually you are the product. So their service is not free as they simply invest by buying your attention, interest and attuning/conditioning people towards their franchise.
    Sadly it's aimed mainly towards kids and yes, it is gambling... getting kids attuned to this gamble/franchise overall is the holy grail of cash cow generating.
    Besides this main goal, they also aim for so called 'whales' with their microtransactions.
    I also agree, that mobile is the perfect way of reaching basically everyone globally. Even people with little to no time to spare, got a moment or two on their phones between meetings, on the train etc... the accessibility is insane.

  • @le_med
    @le_med 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    No this is not to help sell cards as they are already selling billions without any advertising. This is clearly to capture whales and extra cash without having to print, distribute and manage physical assets. It could even double their revenues because people will have the super convenience of being able to buy packs instantly and prey on the instant gratification. Collections and trading will be emphasized so that virtual cards will get values and kids won t have to carry their binders of cards. I think they are thinking about lowering physical printing in the long run and push virtual to cut down on costs.

    Cross posted in another video:
    I love your channel. Am I correct in thinking you invest and/or collect more Japanese pokemon? I prefer Japanese with their higher quality but the English version command higher prices and returns... How do you see the Japanese market and your investment of it when it seems English just dominates. Do you invest in English as well?

    • @CollectPokemon
      @CollectPokemon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dispite making a lot of japanese cards video, my position in english is slightly more, i would say around 65% english and 35% japanese in terms of seal products. I can't tell you which version is better, but I can tell you that for the most part of poekmon card history 1996 - 2018, japanese cards were cheaper than english...only between 2018 - 2024 japanese cards became popular and mainstream. As a collector i collect a lot of japaense pikachu cards, but as an investors i only pick japaense seal sets such as 151 or the high class set to invest.

    Nah, it wont be a game changer, its basically just another TCG Live with an extra feature of trading. Its a cash grab for nintendo. Pokémon TCG live hasnt changed the game, most serious collectors dont even care about the code cards and sell em off in bulk for $20 per 1000, they have already done this, going from the TCG online app to TCG live. Its a move they make every 5 years or so to make more money. If you dont play live or havent used it, then sure this seems like something new, but its not.

      I think you’re not seeing it from the company’s perspective. You’re using a more collector/card shop perspective. The company sells cardboard, slivers of cardboard that cost a penny to make and they sell them for $4-$5. The margins for the company are huge, the margins for a reseller are tiny/nonexistent. That’s why it’s not really about the money but more so making it easier for the next generation to become addicted to opening packs. Now they’ll be spending nothing for digital art and sell it for $1-$2. The margins are even bigger. Pokemon the company doesn’t need a boom in sales or hike in prices to make more money, they just need to shift their model to the next generation of younger children.

    • @CollectPokemon
      @CollectPokemon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Let me rephrase, pokemon will be making a lot of money from this, but out of all the different apps and digital game they can make, they choose to make a tcg pocket. They could simply modified tcg live and get ppl to access digital cards in that way, why a new tcg game using the same ip, which other company may consider to be canabilism of your own ip? I beleive pokemon's plan is trying to create something that will expands it's reach and solve the problem of accessability.

    feels like a late entry into the NFT bullshii. Why have something that you dont physically have and is controlled by a large corp and can be taken down and away from you at any moment? Pokemon Cards can be stolen but having the cards and guarding them is a possibility. Guarding against something going wrong in the digital world and also the digital world is an infinite resource reality is not an infinite resource.
