Lucky Stray Cat Mom with Broken Leg Finds a Good Samaritan

- This story took place in Xi'an, China, in November 2023. While out, a lady encountered a stray cat mom with a front leg fracture. Upon hearing from nearby kind-hearted individuals who feed stray cats, it was suggested that the cat's leg might have been bitten by stray dogs. The vet proposed two options: first, surgery with steel pins, and second, if surgery isn't chosen, administering anesthesia to cut and suture the wound, both to be performed post-pregnancy. The hope is for a smooth surgery for the cat mom in the future.

I consulted the lady who rescued the stray cat in the video, and she mentioned that she has already consulted a veterinarian. The lady explained that the surgery should be performed after the kittens are weaned. The kittens were born two weeks ago, and they need at least another month before being weaned. I'm concerned whether waiting for such a period might be too late for effective treatment. 😭
Perhaps you can do a follow-up?
It would be possible to make the surgery for the cat earlier (before the kittens are weaned) if the foster mother is founded for the kittens. Some cat, that has milk and could feed them, but whose own kittens have died for example. I have worked in a homeless pet shelter myself taking care of cats, that have given birth, and her kittens, and know that not all kittens survive. I have had mother cat just with one kitten. When it comes to the surgery, it is also important who is making the surgery. Good timing but bad surgeon will not give a positive result eather.

Are they able to save the leg or taking it off?
The kittens can be given PET FORMULA MILK with a bottle and grow up healthy and strong.
You could maybe stress this point out to the lady who rescued the mama cat so the surgery can be performed sooner.
Otherwise I agree with you it might be too late for a good recovery.
The bandage the cat wears is far too tight already. Just a protection on the side she puts on the floor would have been enough : one eighth week being pregnant and two weeks after the delivery, there is THREE weeks while the bone is doing its job repairing itself almost to completion before final consolidation.
That's a very big deal. 😟

I'm a veterinarian here in France, I guess the cat is not even one year-old seing its radiographies, and I'd like it to live with four healthy paws.
It's too young to be incapacitated !

I'm thankful she's taking care of this family of cats. However I would ask she get a lower access litter box and to place the wet food in a bowl or plate. May she receive many Blessings for her help.

The mama is so beautiful and the kittens are adorable. Despite her disability she is there for her kittens. It's great she has a nice home where she can care for them. And help with keeping them safe and comfortable.

I think those adorable babies can switch to bottle milk formula so the mother cat can get surgery early. I’m so grateful for the kind lady who saved this precious mother cat and takes good care of the whole family.
