Naomi, so after your 2 tours, if you had to pick one bike, would it be the Salsa Cutthroat or a Mt bike? I go though this in my head all the time and am wondering your thoughts. Doug
Salsa Cutthroat Apex 1 but I’d swap out the tires for a tire you’ll see in the next video - next week (just couldn’t get the editing done in time for tmrw), and maybe a set of mustache handlebars if I was going to be using it on a lot of long hilly gravel/rocky rides. I think it’s the last video of season one where I go over the Cutthroat and share my problem with the drop bar style.
@@HumanontheLoose , totally understand. I rode a Surly ERC on that route and the White Rim Trail in Utah with 29x3s. While it was comfy, it was killer climbing with it. My next off-road tour I used my Salsa Marrakesh with 700x47s and kicked butt. It has drop bars but I am thinking about adding the Surly Maloko bars as an alt bar to the Marrakesh
$20 for a day pass at the Y is outrageous. I work at a parks and rec gym in Meridian Idaho and a day pass here is only $4. Unfortunately if you were in Meridian you would basically be home and would have no need for our showers. If anyone out there is just passing through the Boise area and want a cheap shower though check out the Meridian Homecourt facility.

Changing from shorts into another pair of shorts just to go for a ride seems freaking pointless

I’m sick. Just a head cold with constant sneezing that’s knocking me out. I also don’t have Wi-Fi where I rent a room and rely on local cafe’s to edit and upload but the very few here have been full due to 98° days. I should be able to get Day 8 up this Thursday. Thanks for checking in! 🤗

@@HumanontheLoose I think you're adorable, and your honesty connects with your fans. Curated lives may seem cool to a lot of people, but they can be fake and eventually boring. I was laughing while watching this video, as I had to remind myself that you were on a challenging bike trip. Lots of people are processing that many thoughts, but they either don't admit it or internalize all of it. I would tell you no to overthink things, but we've crossed that line by a wide margin LOL. I think that we've seen your superpower.
Im curious how worried you are about leaving your bike for such long periods? Its an expensive bike but even more than that, all your stuff, and trip would be over if it were stolen. I dont enjoy the towns nearly enough because I wont leave my bike more than to run in, place a take out order and wait outside....
I guess in my mind there are so many expensive bikes to choose to steal I can’t imagine choosing a heavy bike/bags attached all over it. They have no idea whether I have a tracker planted in a bag. Also… in these isolated towns it’s not as easy to drive off down an alleyway through a busy city with tons of people and cars everywhere. That’s why I don’t worry about it but I do get bike insurance when I take these trips. It covers me from my bike to my bags to my bike clothes even if I fall and they rip and it’s only $220 for the year.
@@HumanontheLoose thanks. I called about insurance and it was ridiculously priced for me. I’m off on my first trip and thinking I can’t let the bike out of my site and won’t enjoy the town stops. Hiking is one small dirty smelly backpack that no one wants…..
Try Velosurance. After they quote you for a year, since that’s the basic set up, ask what happens when you cancel after you return from your trip. You would get some money back I don’t know how much. This would help lower your cost. And as you know you can just walk with your bike and lock it right outside whatever place you’re in with a clear view. Grab a one dollar rain poncho from the drugstore and drape it over your bike so no one knows what’s under it and if they go to steal it it would be quite an eye catcher. There’s too many expensive bikes that people leave out that are easy to steal for someone to mess with a covered bikepacking bike.
@@HumanontheLoose thanks for the advice. I appreciate it I have all lightweight backpacking gear that weighs almost nothing and my 2 pound U lock! Enjoy your trip before summer is over!
A bike shop that won't squeeze in a bike packer is a crap bike shop that you don't want working on your bike anyway. That really makes me mad. I don't know any cyclist that wouldn't give up their repair spot for a packer.
At the time I understood since he said there were only two techs available in the whole town - this trip was last year. Looking back he could’ve at least taken three minutes to just spin the wheels and listen since he knew I was headed towards Stanley where there’s nothing.
I hate everything that is a new fashion, so I hate "bike packing" because it aint honestly more than that. Get yourself a good old rack on your backwheel and the good old panniers like they did it for decades. You will have more than enough space to store whatever you want. And you show everybody you re an invidual who gives a shit about the latest b&llshit. Thats at least what I am doin😅🤣😂by the way, the thing under/behind your saddle, we call it assrocket, here in Germany...ARSCHRAKETE
Lol, to funny and true. Now saying that, after decades of cycle touring I’ve just completed the trailer for my new Ebike, first trip next week, it’s beyond heavy, but I’ll be comfortable and that’s all that counts at 60! Btw, I still wear slip on shoes and I swear by wind River shorts. Cheers, loved the comment,
That bike set up wouldn’t have worked for me on this trip because I was planning to go up into the steep mountains on single track and I wouldn’t want that weight hanging off the sides. I like the minimalist streamline setup. I can’t really comment on what’s in fashion because I don’t pay attention even though it might look like I do - and I do agree. 🤣 If I was going to design saddlebags I would steal that name! I used an “ass rocket” last year Season 1 but this ride is a rack with a big round sack and I freaking LOVED it! It was my not-in-fashion design! I’d never go back to an “ass rocket.”
Thank you!! That’s a great idea but for this particular situation with so much moisture in the air, wet fabric, sweat - I think it would’ve made it worse.
Brilliant.
One cannot help smiling and feeling good while watching your videos. What a wonderful personality.

I appreciate it
I have all lightweight backpacking gear that weighs almost nothing and my 2 pound U lock!
Enjoy your trip before summer is over!
I'm fairly certain I can't wear a sports bra, but I'm not sure, I have no mammaries ...
You are definitely a roommate issue..
🤣🤣🤣 Indeeeed!
I like the way you do the route on the map. Use some lotion on your cycling shorts chamois if you have one🚵.
Thank you!! That’s a great idea but for this particular situation with so much moisture in the air, wet fabric, sweat - I think it would’ve made it worse.
