Video saved me. My setup was MySQL 8.0.17, phpMyAdmin 4.9.0.1, PHP 7.3.7, and SnipeIT 4.7.6. With my install I hit a snag when installing Composer. You need php_mysql.dll disabled (not enabled). And be sure to make the folder security changes with IUSR. Thanks for the video!!!

I agree with this absolutely. The installation instructions on the Snipe-IT website are woeful, for Linux as well as Windows (but especially for Windows). I've tried to install this on a Linux box and a Server 2016 box; in both cases I had to rely on guides I found on other sites. The Linux one didn't work, but thanks to your video I now have Snipe-IT up and running on Server 2016 yaaaay! THANK YOU!
Excellent video for a fairly complicated setup! I was able to install everything with current versions of the downloads OK with one exception, the version of HeidiSQL installed with the MariaDB required an update to get past an error (column "users" not available) on DB user creation. After patching HeidiSQL to the current version it resolved the problem.

For composer, if you get a funky error during install saying "your requirements could not be resolved" just run "composer install --ignore-platform-reqs" instead.

Thank you for this excellent video - trying to install this using the instructions on Snipe-IT's own website is bloody impossible but this video shows me everything I needed to do. Mine is working using Server 2016, mariadb 10.0.36, PHP 7.3.9 and Snipe-IT 4.7.7 and your installation instructions were all I needed. A (big big) favour - Do you happen to have a follow-up video which would show me how to convert the finished Snipe-IT site from HTTP to HTTPS?

1. IUSR is inbuilt user for IIS Server. We have to give proper permissions to this user so that it can run SNIPE-IT website properly. Check permissions part in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/windowsiis 2. session_entropy_length value helps generating random session ids to secure the PHP sessions. 3. PHP extensions provide different functionality to SNIPE-IT. For example, LDAP extension helps SNIPE-IT connect to LDAP server. If LDAP extension is not enable and SNIPE-IT would not be able to connect to LDAP server. Check requirements section in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/requirements

I came across a problem while trying to upgrade using the "PHP upgrade.php" method. Is there a different process for upgrading in Windows? Which version is faster in terms of performance the Linux or Windows?
Hi Aman, You’re welcome. In terms of upgrading, yes it is different in Windows. This involves not a lot but manually backing up, moving files ans re-assigning permissions to folders. Performance is a debatable topic and there are a lot variables. However, I haven’t noticed any difference between Ubuntu and Windows. As you may have noticed Snipe is built on Laravel and uses Composer for its dependencies. There is better support and more automation available for Linux based systems. Jay

parasmichael1 Hi , you would be able to do that. As long as your user account has admin rights, you would be able to make changes. You may know that IUSR is a locat account to a server where IIS is installed.
It is the IIS server local account and gets generated when we install IIS. Check more info here about this account docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/get-started/planning-for-security/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis.

Thanks Jay, this is a great tutorial! I do have a problem though and I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem, but when I click on any of the reports (e.g. Reports/Activity Report), I get a logon prompt. When I enter the server admin credentials, I get an HTTP 404 error for Requested URL: /reports/activity. Although it does look like a permission issue, I did set all the permissions on the folders as instructed in your video (i.e. IUSR permissions on uploads, cache, storage, and Windows/Temp folders). Everything else seems to work fine, just not the reports. Any ideas?
Sacha Korell You’re welcome. I am glad it helped. I didn’t get chance to have a look at it today. I am pretty sure activity reports worked fine for me when I tested. However, I can check it out for you hopefully tomorrow sometime.
@@TekNexSolutions Thank you for your quick reply. The culprit was actually SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). I have SQL Server (along with SSRS) installed on the same server. The default virtual directory for SSRS reports is ServerName:80/Reports (same as SnipeIT reports path). One solution would be to simply uninstall SSRS, another to use a different port for SnipeIT (e.g. 8080), I just changed the virtual directory for the SSRS reports in Reporting Services Configuration Manager->Report Manager URL to "SSRSReports" and that fixed the problem :-)

Hello TekNex. Thank you for your videos. Its a breeze to follow how your present us with all the steps in the best way that i have seen so far. The reason of my message is that i did follow all your steps for installing snipe IT . All went fine. the only things that i used different is PHP version 7.3(or the latest available on that website), Maria DB 10.0.37(i couldnt find Maria DB 10.0.36 anywhere on thaty website). , latest version of notepad ++, and latest version of snipe IT which is 4.6.7 stable. All installed fine. I opened snipe IT, and all fine. However now i have a problem. I create a new location for instance, i create it successfully. However, when i click on it it just shows " Whoops looks like something went wrong". When i select the edit option to the right of the location, i'm able to open it properly. this is the same case with location/companies/catogeries etc. What might i have done wrong. Another example is that i can create a manufacturer, though i cannot enter the URL for the manufacturer. I dont enter certain fields , then i can create the manufacturer. if i fill in all the fields , then i get " Whoops looks like something went wrong". Is there a way you can help me please.
bas771 You are most welcome and I am glad that these videos help you. Few things I would like to point out. First would be the PHP version. It has to between “5.6.4 to 7.3”. Same with Maria DB, I have used 10.0.36 and tested. It worked fine but recommended version by Snipe-IT is “10.0.14”. One user reported that they had issue when they used newest version other than 10.0.36 of Maria DB. It is in one of the comments on this video. If the versions are not a problem then it could be permissions issue on the Snipe-IT folders. Also check the verbs mentioned at 40:43 in this video. Either way, it would be nice to know how did you go.

Great video. I followed every instruction on a fresh install of Windows 2016 however when I try and load up the pre-flight page I'm getting "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" in IE. I've tried using 127.0.0.1, ip address, host name all the same result. netstat -a shows it is listening on port 80.
I should note that the PHP version I'm using is 7.3.6 and Maria DB is 10.0.38 Not sure if that would cause this issue. Just seems like IIS is not working correctly.

Hi there, I would recommend to do the following: 1. Double check all the folder permissions for IIS are right 41:33 and .env file has up-to-date content. 1. Try browsing to yourIPAdress/setup/migrate. 2. You can try browsing to yourIPAddress/setup/user. 3. Login to HS and connect to the Snipe-IT database with the user (database user) you created earlier. You will see many different tables created when you clicked on Next Create Database Tables during Pre-Flight setup. Hopefully above steps will be enough to resolve the issue in question.

Bryan Tangonan It would be ICMPv4 issue. To prove that try turning off firewall on VM and your host OS. Then try pinging. If that’s the case, you need to add firewall rule to allow ICMPv4 in the firewall.

At 33:02 you can rename the file from a cmd prompt whilst in the correct folder: ren .env.example .env

Thanks so much for the tutorial. It really helped me migrate Snipe-IT from Linux to Windows where I'm more comfortable with. I came across a problem while trying to upgrade using the "PHP upgrade.php" method. Is there a different process for upgrading in Windows? Which version is faster in terms of performance the Linux or Windows?

You’re welcome.
In terms of upgrading, yes it is different in Windows. This involves not a lot but manually backing up, moving files ans re-assigning permissions to folders.
Performance is a debatable topic and there are a lot variables. However, I haven’t noticed any difference between Ubuntu and Windows.
As you may have noticed Snipe is built on Laravel and uses Composer for its dependencies. There is better support and more automation available for Linux based systems.

parasmichael1 Hi , you would be able to do that. As long as your user account has admin rights, you would be able to make changes. You may know that IUSR is a locat account to a server where IIS is installed.

It is the IIS server local account and gets generated when we install IIS. Check more info here about this account docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/get-started/planning-for-security/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis.

Thanks Jay, this is a great tutorial! I do have a problem though and I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem, but when I click on any of the reports (e.g. Reports/Activity Report), I get a logon prompt. When I enter the server admin credentials, I get an HTTP 404 error for Requested URL: /reports/activity. Although it does look like a permission issue, I did set all the permissions on the folders as instructed in your video (i.e. IUSR permissions on uploads, cache, storage, and Windows/Temp folders). Everything else seems to work fine, just not the reports. Any ideas?
Sacha Korell You’re welcome. I am glad it helped. I didn’t get chance to have a look at it today. I am pretty sure activity reports worked fine for me when I tested. However, I can check it out for you hopefully tomorrow sometime.
@@TekNexSolutions Thank you for your quick reply. The culprit was actually SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). I have SQL Server (along with SSRS) installed on the same server. The default virtual directory for SSRS reports is ServerName:80/Reports (same as SnipeIT reports path). One solution would be to simply uninstall SSRS, another to use a different port for SnipeIT (e.g. 8080), I just changed the virtual directory for the SSRS reports in Reporting Services Configuration Manager->Report Manager URL to "SSRSReports" and that fixed the problem :-)

Hello TekNex. Thank you for your videos. Its a breeze to follow how your present us with all the steps in the best way that i have seen so far. The reason of my message is that i did follow all your steps for installing snipe IT . All went fine. the only things that i used different is PHP version 7.3(or the latest available on that website), Maria DB 10.0.37(i couldnt find Maria DB 10.0.36 anywhere on thaty website). , latest version of notepad ++, and latest version of snipe IT which is 4.6.7 stable. All installed fine. I opened snipe IT, and all fine. However now i have a problem. I create a new location for instance, i create it successfully. However, when i click on it it just shows " Whoops looks like something went wrong". When i select the edit option to the right of the location, i'm able to open it properly. this is the same case with location/companies/catogeries etc. What might i have done wrong. Another example is that i can create a manufacturer, though i cannot enter the URL for the manufacturer. I dont enter certain fields , then i can create the manufacturer. if i fill in all the fields , then i get " Whoops looks like something went wrong". Is there a way you can help me please.
bas771 You are most welcome and I am glad that these videos help you.
Few things I would like to point out. First would be the PHP version. It has to between “5.6.4 to 7.3”. Same with Maria DB, I have used 10.0.36 and tested. It worked fine but recommended version by Snipe-IT is “10.0.14”. One user reported that they had issue when they used newest version other than 10.0.36 of Maria DB. It is in one of the comments on this video.
If the versions are not a problem then it could be permissions issue on the Snipe-IT folders. Also check the verbs mentioned at 40:43 in this video.
Either way, it would be nice to know how did you go.

Great video. I followed every instruction on a fresh install of Windows 2016 however when I try and load up the pre-flight page I'm getting "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" in IE. I've tried using 127.0.0.1, ip address, host name all the same result. netstat -a shows it is listening on port 80.
I should note that the PHP version I'm using is 7.3.6 and Maria DB is 10.0.38 Not sure if that would cause this issue. Just seems like IIS is not working correctly.
Fixed it. Had wrong user name in the .env file.

You need to enter correct SMTP details in the .env file and it does work. I have to double check with location based permissions.

It should work if you have followed all the steps. Check this blog if you have not checked out yet blog.masteringmdm.com/snipe-it-installation-on-windows-server/. Only difference between blog and video is Visual C++ 2017 for PHP Version 7.4.6 or higher.
Page not found means IIS did not even detect the website. May be go over "create new website" part again.

I would recommend to do the following:
1. Double check all the folder permissions for IIS are right 41:33 and .env file has up-to-date content.
1. Try browsing to yourIPAdress/setup/migrate.
2. You can try browsing to yourIPAddress/setup/user.
3. Login to HS and connect to the Snipe-IT database with the user (database user) you created earlier. You will see many different tables created when you clicked on Next Create Database Tables during Pre-Flight setup.
Hopefully above steps will be enough to resolve the issue in question.

malik aman Technically it should work. Just make sure your Server has all the Windows updates installed prior to the Snipe-it installation.

I have not seen this issue before. Seems like it is complaining about the DB Dump path. Check this blog blog.masteringmdm.com/snipe-it-installation-on-windows-server/ and update the DB Dump path.

Bryan Tangonan It would be ICMPv4 issue. To prove that try turning off firewall on VM and your host OS. Then try pinging.
If that’s the case, you need to add firewall rule to allow ICMPv4 in the firewall.
